State of the School

Dear GWSB Community, I would like to take time to reflect on some of our accomplishments as a school.

opportunities, and we are in the process of major revisions to our doctoral program.

Members of our distinguished faculty had peer-reviewed articles published in some of the most prestigious academic journals, including the Academy of Management Journal, Management Science, Organizational Science, and the Journal of Financial Economics.

Alumni and friends of the University continue their strong support of our School through financial gifts, hiring our students, and by spreading word of our growing success. And our students continue to be recruited by some of the most selective and sought after employers in the country, including Goldman Sachs, GE, and Deloitte.

The hard work and dedication of our faculty and staff was recognized on numerous occasions through school-wide, national, and international awards.

Faculty, programs and initiatives enjoyed widespread media coverage, and were featured in more than 50 national press outlets, including the Wall Street Journal, Businessweek, New York Times, Washington Post, and the Financial Times.

Leading publications such as Businessweek and the Financial Times continue to place us among the most elite and selective business schools in the world. US News and World Report ranked our international business program 11th for U.S. business programs, while our graduate entrepreneurship program is listed in the top 25 by the Princeton Review.

GW hosted numerous conferences and symposia, including our annual Entrepreneurship Conference, Techstars Boot Camp, Deloitte’s Battle of the Beltway, Pitch George, and no less than four national case competitions, including one competition designed by our own Global MBA program and held in conjunction with our educational partner, Pearson.

With the support of faculty, students, and our enthusiastic alumni community, what we can achieve is limitless.

Julian Friedland most recently served on the faculty of Fordham University where he helped design a core MBA ethics course and served on the curricular committee for a new universitywide minor in sustainable business practices.

He was also a member of the faculties at Temple University, Jones International University, Eastern Connecticut State University, University of Colorado at Boulder, Colorado State University, St. Cloud University, and Metropolitan State College of Denver.

Friedland conceived and wrote 20 case studies in business ethics for the Leeds Curriculum Emphasis on Social Responsibility. The case studies, which cover such topics as employee and executive compensation, environmental issues, and corporate whistleblowers, are widely used by educators and trainers. Friedland’s research has been published in a number of leading journals, including Business and Society Review, the Journal of Business Ethics, Law and Critique, and Philosophical Investigations.

A much sought after speaker, Hyman has lectured and participated in panel discussions at the University of Southern California, the University of Baltimore School of Law Center for Sport and the Law, the University of Maryland, University of Maryland School of Law, and the Sports Lawyers Association National Convention. Hyman has appeared numerous times in such publications as the New York Times, Sports Illustrated, Businessweek, the Baltimore Sun, Baltimore News American, Dallas Times-Herald, Philadelphia Bulletin and Norfolk Ledger-Star.

Kettunen has served as a research assistant for Nokia in Espoo, Finland, and as a business development analyst for Nokia in Yokosuka, Japan, and for Compagnie Financiere Tradition in Tokyo, Sydney, Singapore and Hong Kong. He was also a consultant to the Board of Actuarial Standards in London.

Kettunen has published research in The Energy Journal, Energy Policy, Journal of Alternative Investments, and other leading scholarly publications. He has been a frequent presenter at major international management conferences, including the annual meeting of the Institute for Operations Research and the Management Sciences (INFORMS).

National Basketball Association; an assistant vice president for J.P. Morgan & Co.; an institutional fixed income salesman for Donaldson, Lufkin & Jenrette; and a certified public accountant for KPMG Peat Marwick.

Roundtree has published research in a number of leading scholarly publications, including the Journal of Advertising, the Journal of Marketing, the Journal of Business Research, and California Management Review. He is a member of the American Marketing Association and the Association for Consumer Research.

Career Services Report

As the nation and the world experienced another year of slow economic and job growth, George Washington University School of Business students continued to demonstrate the career management savvy necessary to navigate job-market challenges while achieving historic results.

The graduating class of 2013 successfully competed with top candidates for prime job opportunities. Eightyone percent of graduating seniors seeking employment accepted full-time jobs within 90 days of graduation.

“This is up from 75 percent in 2012 and the highest percentage ever for GWSB students,” said Gil Yancey, executive director of the School’s F. David Fowler Career Center (FDFCC). Another 12 percent of those who reported their post-graduation destinations are pursuing advanced degrees.

The graduating class of 2013 is the first to experience all aspects of the “early and often” career-management strategy implemented with the incoming freshman class of 2009. The strategy calls for students to engage in career preparation as part of the curriculum as freshmen (early) in the First Year Development Program, and to participate often as sophomores with career related sessions in the “writing in the disciplines” course; and then again as juniors in the 14-week career-management strategy course taught by executive-level industry practitioners. This course is offered to all juniors interested in careers in consulting, finance, marketing, and sports marketing, as well as to select sophomores pursuing careers in finance. The course is structured to help students develop the knowledge, skills, and

relationships that enhance their opportunities for the all-important junior year internship. Eighty-six percent of GWSB juniors have quality internships before their senior year.

Additionally, the average starting salary for the 2013 graduating seniors is at a historic high of $52,117, as more students find opportunities in high-paying jobs in finance and consulting. Yancey said, “This ‘early and often’ strategy is beginning to yield a return on investment in a significant way. Employers frequently comment on the preparedness of our undergraduates compared to other business schools they visit.”

For the first time, two sections of the undergraduate career strategy course were offered to non-business students in other schools within the university.

The flagship Real Estate and Finance Alliance mentorship program continued to build on its very successful track record with students and employers. We are very proud to report that 100 percent of the REFAmentored juniors received internships and all REFA seniors secured full-time employment upon graduation at some of the world’s most admired financial services institutions.

Among Global MBA students, we held at 85 percent of those seeking employment accepting full-time offers within 90 days of graduation. Our MBAs are beginning to find their way into commercial consulting firms and organizations that have historically recruited only at top-ten business schools. FDFCC, in partnership with the Graduate Programs Office, implemented the “early and often strategy,” beginning with the first-year class of 2013. A required career strategy course designed to get them market-ready earlier is now part of the Global MBA curriculum. One hundred first-year Global MBAs participated in this pilot course called “Career Roadmap.” This effort starts in the summer before students ever come to campus and continues through the first module of the program. Upon completion, students reported a substantial jump in their Internship Readiness Assessment.

FDFCC career management experts Pauline Ma (graduate career coach) and Toni Della-Ratta (director, graduate career management) were invited to present on best practices for working with international students

at the annual MBA Career Services and Employer Alliance conference. They shared their innovative “Career Bites” program with a large audience of career services experts from around the world. “Career Bites” are interactive mini sessions, originally developed for master of accountancy and master of finance students, to help them tackle challenging career management activities.

The center also increased its employer programming —hosting fall and spring career fairs for approximately 400 students, and expanding the number of employers actively recruiting on campus by 16.8 percent, and information sessions by 12.7 percent. These increases reflect greater employer awareness of the talented students at GWSB. Additionally, students visited employers in the Washington metropolitan area, New York City, and San Francisco. Each year, the feedback from employers and students serves to improve the success of future years’ events.

Bringing World Class Teaching and Research Talent to GWBS The George Washington School of Business depends on the generous support of donors, including the GWSB alumni community and those from both the business and philanthropic communities.

One of the most important benefits derived from that support is the School’s ability to attract leading academics. Individual donations, annual gifts, and continuing endowments all play an important role in giving GWSB the wherewithal to advance the study of business and prepare its students for success by enlisting top teaching and research faculty from around the world.

GWSB recently was able to welcome to its Department of Marketing two of the very best academics in their field, Donna Hoffman and Tom Novak. The husbandand-wife team has blazed trails in the study of marketing and continue to do so, developing a new understanding of the discipline as it adapts to, and takes advantage of, 21st century technology and market conditions.

Hoffman, who joined the GWSB faculty as a professor of marketing and the Louis Rosenfeld Distinguished Scholar, and Novak, who came on board as a professor of marketing and the Denit Trust Distinguished Scholar, specialize in the study of online marketing. Few, if any, have matched the depth of their research and expertise in the field.

Novak’s research is focused on consumer behavior in online environments and digital marketing. In 1993, he and Hoffman founded the research center Project 2000 to study online marketing. A decade later, the duo started the Sloan Center for Internet Retailing, a research center based at the University of California-Riverside

that is dedicated to improving the effectiveness of online retailing.

Hoffman’s research has focused on social media, online consumer behavior and digital marketing trends. She has worked with major corporations, including Procter & Gamble, Intel, Microsoft, FedEx, Lands’ End/Sears, and Walmart, among others, on digital marketing strategy. Hoffman is an academic trustee of the Marketing Science Institute.

In addition to their cutting-edge research work, Hoffman and Novak are teaching new courses at GWSB this spring, including electronic marketing (Novak) and integrated marketing communications (Hoffman). Both classes will be offered for both MBA and undergraduate students.

When the duo began their work 20 years ago, web research focused on content, and how consumers were finding and utilizing it. The next phase, social media, shifted the emphasis to how consumers used the Internet to communicate with one another. Now, according to Hoffman and Novak, we are entering the “post-social media” generation. Accordingly, their research will shift focus to how consumers interact with “smart” devices, and how those devices interact with one another.

With the goal of building upon an expertise gained over two decades of intensive study, Hoffman and Novak have launched the Center for the Connected Consumer (CCC), GWSB’s newest research center.

Founded in 2013, the CCC is dedicated to understanding how consumers increasingly interact with small, “smart,” and friendly networked devices that also talk to other devices. The Center sponsors conferences, workshops and seminars. These events provide academic researchers and corporate partners opportunities to learn about marketing in the era of the post-social media “Internet of Things,” to share best practices, and to influence the CCC’s research priorities.

With the dominant position of the Internet and the everchanging nature of smart technologies, the research and classroom work done by Hoffman and Novak is certain to have a major impact on how business can best respond to, adapt and utilize the Internet’s latest innovations for its own benefit and the benefit of society as a whole.

Serving Those Who Serve

Alumnus Creates Scholarship for Active-Duty Military and Veterans

In the spring of 2013, Alexander D. Greene and his wife, Lori, pledged $100,000 to the School of Business to establish the William C. Handorf Veteran Scholarship. This scholarship provides support for an undergraduate or graduate GWSB student who is active-duty military or a veteran, with a preference for those who have served in combat.

This scholarship is very meaningful for GWSB students —meeting the needs of student veterans is one of the top priorities at GW, and philanthropic gifts supporting veteran scholarships are a seminal component of that goal.

Greene, who received his BBA in finance from the School of Business in 1980, recently retired from his position as head of U.S. private equity at Brookfield Asset Management Inc., a global asset manager with over $175 billion of assets under management.

One of the longest-serving members of the GWSB faculty, Dr. Handorf is renowned for his finance course at the core of the school’s curriculum. Greene cites Dr. Handorf as a powerful influence on his career and wanted to honor his former professor’s military background and commitment to his students by naming this veterans’ scholarship for him. A decorated combat veteran, Handorf served as a first lieutenant in the U.S. Army and was awarded the Purple Heart, among other military decorations and citations.

Elizabeth Halford, GMBA ’15, is this year’s Handorf Scholarship recipient. A retired U.S. Army lieutenant

colonel, Halford’s military career spanned 20 years including assignments in Germany during the fall of the Berlin Wall; in Baghdad during the Iraq War; and at Ft. Belvoir serving in the Alexander D. Greene Department of Defense’s only battalion specializing in emergency power.

The Handorf Veteran Scholarship, in coordination with funding provided under the GI Bill and Yellow Ribbon Program, is enabling Halford to pursue her educational and career aspirations. Upon graduation, Halford intends to serve as a construction consultant helping veterans build environmentally friendly houses suited to their needs.

Through his commitment and generosity as an alumni leader, Alexander Greene has shown his continued dedication to his alma mater by supporting GWSB in its ongoing endeavor to prepare the next generation of ambitious business leaders like Elizabeth Halford, and by honoring Professor William Handorf, who has had a profound impact and influence on GWSB’s community.

Carrying On a Commitment to Scholarship and Public Service: The Benjamin Kane Gupta Fellowship Program GWSB alumni and families have consistently provided support over the years, delivering the resources for GWSB to achieve new levels of excellence.

This year, the family of GW graduate student Benjamin Kane Gupta has given the University a gift to launch an MBA fellowship program focusing on creating publicprivate partnerships that strengthen U.S. foreign policy and development efforts. Gupta, a joint MBA/Law student, passed away in December 2011.

“We are deeply honored that the Gupta family has launched this fellowship, which will provide the nation’s leading students with an opportunity to learn the art of partnership building,” said Thomas Debass, U.S. State Department deputy special representative for global partnerships.

The Benjamin Kane Gupta Fellows Program is a joint program of GWSB and the U.S. Department of State’s Office of the Global Partnership Initiative (GPI). It is open to MBA students from accredited universities and will be housed and administered within GWSB. Gupta held an internship at the State Department as part of his MBA program. Scheduled to receive his JD/MBA in May 2012, he was awarded the degrees posthumously.

Ben Gupta was well liked and respected by his fellow students and professors, who were impressed by his commitment to public service and passion for international engagement. That respect was mutual. Gupta’s father, Vinod Gupta, a prominent philanthropist and founder, former chairman and CEO of Infogroup, said his son Ben considered both GW’s Business and Law schools “as his home, and felt lucky to be part of both families.”

The Global Partnership Initiative was launched in 2009 by the Secretary of State’s office as a means of funding innovative approaches to solving challenging problems around the world. Designed to develop a new generation of public-private partnerships that would boost collaboration, strengthen foreign policy and maximize the effect of foreign aid in the service of improving people’s lives and creating economic opportunity, the GPI has worked with more than 1,000 partners, cultivated 6,500 private sector contacts, and leveraged more than $650 million in public and private resources since its creation.

The Gupta fellows will facilitate collaboration between public and private sectors through research and program development. Gupta fellowships will be offered to up to four MBA students per year. Stipends will support a full-time schedule of 40 hours per week at the State Department for one academic semester. MBA graduate students from any accredited university may apply. Finalists will be chosen by committee, with fellowships going to the top two to four candidates. Vinod Gupta has also endowed a $1 million scholarship for international law students in his son’s memory.

Office of Development and Alumni Relations The GWSB Office of Development and Alumni Relations works to build and maintain the strong ties that hold together our exceptional community of students, faculty and graduates, as well as the ties that link that community to society at large.

The School’s development outreach focuses on enlisting the support and involvement of organizations through initiatives such as the Trusted Partners Program, a cooperative alliance between GWSB and organizations committed to investing in the future of business education. Power & Promise Fund The GWSB Power & Promise Fund ensures that all qualified students, regardless of financial resources, can take full advantage of the educational opportunities available to them. Power & Promise helps students to remain at GWSB with the assurance that they may complete their studies even when they can afford them least. FELLOWSHIPS Bank of America Graduate Fellowship in Entrepreneurship NationsBank (now Bank of America) established this endowment fund in 1999. Income earned by this fund supports fellowships for graduate students working in the Center for Advancement of Small Business at the George Washington University.

General John W. Vessey Graduate Fellowship General John W. Vessey, USA (Ret.), MS ’66, established this endowment fund in 2007. Income from this fund provides support for graduate students in the George Washington University School of Business, with preference given to disabled U.S. veterans.

Joseph Fleischman Fellowship in Real Estate Studies Julius Fleischman established this endowment fund in 2007 in honor of his father, the late Joseph Fleischman, in recognition of his accomplishments and success in real estate. The income from this fund provides endowed fellowships that support students pursuing real estate studies and related fields.

Income from the fund will be spent at the discretion of the dean of the School of Business and the vice dean for academic affairs.

Marvin L. Kay Fellowship in Finance GW Trustee Marvin L. Kay, BA ’50, established this endowment fund in 1986. The income earned by this fund provides annual fellowship awards to students. Recipients are to be enrolled in the School of Business pursuing an MBA degree, concentrating in the area of finance.

Benjamin Franklin Professorship Fund A transfer of funds from the former Ford Foundation Professorship Fund in 1988 and the Benjamin Franklin University Endowment Fund in 1989 created this endowment. Income earned by the fund supports a position that participates in a joint curricular program

The Avram S. Tucker Endowed Chair in Strategy and Leadership This fund was established in 2011

by Avram S. Tucker, BBA ’77. This fund will create an endowed chair position that shall be used to recruit and retain an outstanding senior faculty member for the George Washington University School of Business and will be designated at the discretion of the dean of the School of Business.

Gokhale, GWSB BCS ’51, and Julian M. Gokhale. The fund will provide annual support for the Benjamin Franklin Professorship at the George Washington University and for annual need-based or merit-based scholarship support for students in the School of Business at the undergraduate or graduate levels.

Dwight D. Eisenhower Professorship of Tourism Policy Endowed Chair The J. Willard Marriott Foundation established this endowment fund in 1989 in honor of President Dwight D. Eisenhower. The income earned by this fund provides perpetual funding support for a senior professor who is a leader for the academic, research and public service endeavors related to the graduate program in tourism administration.

The George A. Coelho Professorship in International Business and Sustainability George Coelho, GW trustee, established this fund in 2012. This fund provides for the establishment of a named, endowed professorship in international business and sustainability within the George Washington University School of Business, with a preference to include global sustainability efforts and original research to advance alternative energy and future sustainability priorities as part of the international business community’s efforts to be globally responsible.

Iran Chair The Imperial Government of Iran established this endowment fund in 1974. Income earned by this fund supports the Iran Chair.

John D. Teller Endowment Fund A bequest by John D. Teller in 1949, honorary doctorate recipient of 1919, and added to by Mary Teller in memory of her brother, established this endowment fund. The fund was designated in 2004 as the match for the Thaddeus A. Lindner and Sergius Gambal Professorship in Business Ethics.

Oliver T. Carr, Jr. Professorship Fund GW emeritus trustee Oliver T. Carr Jr., honorary doctor of public service ’98, established this endowment fund in 1986. The income earned by this fund supports a faculty position known as the Oliver T. Carr Jr. Professorship of Real Estate and Finance, based in the School of Business.

Thaddeus A. Lindner and Sergius Gambal Professorship in Business Ethics at the George Washington University School of Business A. James Clark, honorary doctor of engineering ’10, and former member of the GW Board of Trustees, established this endowment fund in 2004 in honor of two distinguished alumni, Thaddeus A. Lindner, AA ’50 and BA ’51, and Sergius Gambal, BA ’52. The income earned by this fund supports in full or in part the salary and benefits of a distinguished professor of business who teaches, among other courses, a dedicated course on business ethics.

Tourism Administration Professorship A transfer of funds from the former Ford Professorship Fund in 1990

PROGRAMS Abdallah Family Endowment GW parents Mahmoud M. Abdallah and Sanaa E. Abdallah established this endowment fund in 1999. The income earned by this fund is divided equally among the deans of the School of Business, Columbian College of Arts and Sciences and the School of Public Health and Health Services for the purpose of supporting undergraduate student services Arthur and Judith Mintz Endowed Undergraduate Leadership Fund Arthur S. Mintz, BBA ’66, and Judith Mintz, BA ’68, established this endowment fund in 1995. Previously, the income earned by this fund supported the Mintz Sophomore Getaway at the School of Business.

Last year, the fund launched the inaugural D.C. Lemonade Day program.

The Charles and Karyn Bendit Fund for Real Estate This fund was established by Charles R. Bendit, BBA ’75, and the Bendit Family Foundation. Income earned by this fund provides support for education, research, travel and co-curricular activities for faculty teaching and research in the area of real estate as part of the Department of Finance, and for students taking courses in real estate or pursuing studies in preparation for a career in real estate in the undergraduate or graduate program in the School of Business.

Cybernetics Fund Dr. Stuart A. Umpleby established this endowment fund in 1985.

Income earned by this fund supports lectures, conferences and graduate student assistance related to the cybernetics program.

Doris M. Carter Family Foundation Endowed Fund for the F. David Fowler Career Center The Doris M. Carter Family Foundation established this fund in 2010. Income earned by this fund supports programs and activities at the F. David Fowler Career Center in the School of Business and the GW Career Center.

Erik K. Winslow and Deana and Gerald Stempler Research Fund Dr. Gerald Stempler, DBA ’88, established this endowment fund in 1992. He gave a new gift in 2006 to rename the fund in honor of management faculty member Erik K. Winslow. Income earned by this fund supports research in family and/or entrepreneurial enterprises.

Finance Research Endowment The Department of Finance established this endowment fund in 2003. Income earned by this fund is used to support programs and activities in the area of finance.

Helen Pumphrey Denit and Louis Malvern Denit Endowment Fund The Helen P. Denit Trust for Charitable and Educational Purposes established this fund in 1992. Income earned by this fund is used to support programs and activities in the School of Business.

Howard P. Hoffman Lectures in Entrepreneurship Howard P. Hoffman, AA ’50 and BA ’50, and a former member of the GW Board of Trustees, established this endowment fund in 1986.

It was designated to support lectures in entrepreneurship. In 2007, the fund was amended to expand the designated use of the income to include direct support of students involved in the lectures and entrepreneurship initiatives approved by the dean or the dean’s designate. The student support may include, but is not limited to, prizes, competitions and awards.

Mr. and Mrs. J. Wendell Crain Fund for Excellence The late J. Wendell Crain, LLB ’56, and his wife Louise Crain established this endowment fund in 1986, along with matching gifts from various donors. Income earned by this fund supports expanding alumni and development activities in School of Business.

John A. Owen Scottish Rite Fund A bequest by John A. Owen, received in 1974, established this endowment fund.

Phillip D. Grub Faculty Endowment Fund Gifts made in honor of the late Professor Emeritus Phillip D. Grub, MBA ’60 and DBA ’64, established this endowment fund in 1994.

Income earned by this fund supports faculty research to expand knowledge and understanding of the global business environment.

Professor Chei-Min Paik Endowment Fund in Business This fund was established in 2008

by Dr. Chei-Min and Inja Paik and amended in 2010. The income earned from this fund will provide for the recognition of achievements (such as awards and papers) in original research on accounting and other business issues by students of the GW School of Business and support other academic activities (such as research and conferences)

by GWSB faculty.

Robert P. Maxon Endowment Fund Dorothy Maxon established this endowment in 1999 in honor of her husband Robert P. Maxon, AA ’47 and BA ’48. Income earned by this fund supports international business programs in the School of Business.

Ramsey Student Investment Fund in the GW School of Business In 2005, GW trustee W. Russ Ramsey, BBA ’81, and Norma G. Ramsey established this endowment fund, which is maintained separately from the University’s Pooled Endowment.

The fund was established as part of the School of Business academic programming and managed by business students as part of their degree programs, with supervision by the chief investment officer of the University.

SCHOLARSHIPS Anna Wunderman Fund GW parents Jerry Neuwirth and Naomi Neuwirth established this endowment fund in 2007. The fund provides assistance based on financial need to an undergraduate student in the George Washington University School of Business.

Carruthers Family MBA Scholarship James L. Carruthers, MBA ’80, established this endowment in 2008.

The income from the fund provides scholarships for full-time students enrolled in the Global MBA program at the GW School of Business.

Christopher and Constance Young Scholarship in Accountancy Christopher G. Young, BBA ’80 and MAccty ’83, established this endowment fund in 2006. Income earned by this fund provides scholarship monies to undergraduates pursuing studies toward a career in accountancy.

Chung Mong Jin Family Scholarship Fund This fund was established in 2011

by Chung Mong Jin, MBA ’86. This fund will provide a need-based scholarship for an undergraduate student in the School of Business.

Daewoo Corporation Scholarship Fund The Daewoo Corporation established this endowment fund in 1988. Income earned by this fund supports scholarship awards for full-time students who are citizens of the People’s Republic of China and majoring in business administration in the School of Business.

Daewoo Vietnamese Scholarship Fund The Daewoo Corporation established this endowment fund in 1994.

Income earned by this fund is used exclusively to support Vietnamese citizens pursuing masters or doctoral degrees at the School of Business.

David S. Cohen Scholarship in Business David S. Cohen, BBA ’91, established this endowment fund in 2007.

The income earned by this fund provides scholarship monies to undergraduate students in the School of Business.

Dean James Carlton Dockeray Memorial Scholarship Fund Professor Emeritus Karl E. Strom established this endowment fund in 1989 in honor of Dean James Carlton Dockeray. The income earned by this fund provides scholarships to graduate students in finance or public administration.

Derrel Waldroupe Memorial Scholarship Fund Baxter Healthcare Corp. established this endowment fund in 1988 in honor of Derrel L. Waldroupe, BS ’71. The income earned by this fund provides scholarships for financially underprivileged undergraduate students in the computer science discipline who are interested in careers in health-related professions.

Recipients may be students in the School of Business, the School of Engineering and Applied Science or the School of Medicine.

Eugene Poncelet and Isabel Poncelet Fund Eugene Poncelet established this endowment fund in 1989. Income earned by this fund supports scholarships for full-time students seeking graduate degrees in the School of Business with a demonstrated interest in the European Union.

Students who are Belgian citizens are given primary consideration for the scholarship.

Frate Bull, Jr. Scholarship Fund Proceeds from the estate of Frate Bull, Jr., AA ’52 and BA ’53, established this endowment fund in 2004. Income earned by this fund supports students in the School of Business or the School of Engineering and Applied Science.

Gary C. Granoff and Leslie Granoff Scholarship Fund Gary C. Granoff, Esq., BBA ’69 and JD ’73, and Leslie Granoff established this endowment fund in 1986.

The income from this fund is used to help students in need of financial aid attend The George Washington University. Awards are made to students who will take courses in art, art history, business or accounting, or who are attending GW Law. Gene R. Cohen Entrepreneurial Scholarship The Gene R. Cohen Charitable Foundation, on behalf of Jonathan S. Cohen, BBA ’93, and Scott A. Cohen, BBA ’92, established this endowment fund in 1998. The income earned by this fund provides financial assistance to students pursuing entrepreneurial studies and/or funds the development of programs designed to foster entrepreneurism.

J. Willard Marriott Foundation Scholarship Fund The J. Willard Marriott Foundation established this endowment fund in 1988. The income earned by this fund supports scholarships for students enrolled in the tourism administration program.
