The German e-bike manufacturer applies high quality standards to their bikes – and to their logistics service provider. The reliable availability of the premium bicycle components is a must, seasonal peaks should not be a problem, and ideally no damage should occur. And the supply chain should be as eco-friendly as possible. Since 2022, Gebrüder Weiss has been taking care that logistics run smoothly for Advanced.

At a glance: Advanced
Advanced Bikes GmbH was founded in 2011. The bicycles were initially sold under the brand EBIKE. DAS ORIGINAL. In 2022, new models were launched under the new trademark Advanced for the first time, initiating a process of reorientation of the product range. Ever since, sustainable materials and concepts have been playing an important role in all spheres of the company. Since 2023, Advanced has been producing their bikes in a new assembly plant in Niedersachsenpark near Osnabrück. The company headquarters are located in Offenbach. The challenge All bicycle components are assembled in the production facility in Lower Saxony. Some of them are imported from Asia. Certain frame parts from China need to arrive at the production facility in Germany within 7 days (door-to-door).
The requirements/challenges: ▪ Reliable securing of freight capacity for varying transport volumes (seasonal peaks) ▪ Compliance with a narrow time slot (7 days) for the transport of special frame parts
▪ Cost-efficiency and low carbon emissions (where possible) ▪ Safe carriage (sensitive freight) ▪ Direct and transparent communication ▪ Quick response, transport solutions need to be adjusted flexibly if required

The solution GW implements a custom-made transport solution, efficiently combining different means of transport. ▪ Quick air freight solution for time-sensitive frame parts (up to two flights per week): direct flight from Shanghai to the regional airport in Ostrava / Czech Republic − avoiding night flight ban − reduced flight time & up to 10 % reduction of carbon emissions (compared to the common air freight hubs of Frankfurt or Amsterdam)
− immediate loading from the cargo plane to the truck, and continuation of the transport to the production facility (overnight delivery) ▪ Complementary rail solution: less timesensitive bike components are transported from China to Germany by rail
▪ Single Point of Contact (SPOC): there is a single point of contact for all transports for the customer to address in case of questions

The benefit On time, safe and reliable The special frame parts from China are available at the assembly plant of Advanced in time. Damage rate: 0 %, for GW knows the requirements of the bike industry regarding handling and packing. The “7 days” target can be achieved almost without exception. The customer’s requirement is ensured continuously and reliably. Cost savings and CO2 reduction The shorter flight route to Ostrava (instead of the usual air freight hubs of Frankfurt or Amsterdam) reduces transport costs by more than 25 %, around 10 % of carbon emissions are saved. Eco-friendly rail transports further reduce CO2 emissions during transport and are some 40 % less expensive than air freight. Simple communication, flexible solution The SPOC provides the customer with quick and direct information. As a bike expert with a powerful company-owned network in Germany, China, Taiwan and Vietnam as well as close contacts with carriers, GW can respond flexibly, modifying or extending logistics solutions based on the relevant situation.
