Located at 283 Central Avenue, a block from Rochester’s busy downtown train station, DL Home & Garden has become a staple in Western New York for home furnishings and accessories. Whether you are a homeowner looking to find a cozy yet modern chair for your office space, or you are an interior designer looking to explore over 60,000 fabrics and samples in the Designers Library on the building’s second floor, DL Home & Garden has something for everyone. Just be prepared to leave with more than you anticipated!

DL Home & Garden opened to the public in 2014 and resides in the old Cable-Wiedemer building, originally built in the late 1800s.

Owners Bob Breissinger and Brian Coutu have brought their more than 80 years of combined interior design experience to downtown Rochester and aim to inspire the community to design stunning yet functional living spaces.

After an expansion in 2018, the retail showroom blossomed to 11,500 square feet with 40 curated room settings. Every item in DL Home & Garden – from a funky wall hanging to a staple living room piece – has been hand-picked and purchased by Bob and Brian.

In addition to the massive showroom, visitors can step outside into one of two patio spaces, complete with patio furniture and manicured gardens. Brian is the main gardener and cares for the outdoor spaces that act as a natural extension of the retail showroom.

With a small in-house team of five dedicated and enthusiastic interior designers, each customer entering DL Home & Garden is greeted with kindness and a helping hand. Exploring thousands of pieces in the showroom – from furniture to carpets to artwork to perfectly crafted home accessories, customers can easily spend hours discovering the wonders within.

William Avis, Designers Library Manager, says, “We have the volume on the floor that gives people a variety of options.” From classic and crisp palettes to vivid and vivacious patterns, DL Home & Garden is here to make a statement. “We are not afraid to go with a vibrant, bold pattern on a chair, or a striking olive-green velvet sofa,” Avis says. Every type of aesthetic has a home in the showroom.

Today, the library is open to any interior designer in the area and serves as a resource center to help designers grow and develop their projects. As a “onestop shop” destination, designers receive assistance and advice from the in-house team.

Avis says, “Designers Library is a win-win for both the interior designers and for our small business.”

The designers can utilize and explore over 60,000 hanging fabrics and book samples to use in projects, which directly supports Designers Library. Designers can also take comfort in knowing that all samples are from vendors’ most current lines.

Access to both the showroom and Designers Library makes DL Home & Garden stand out from other home interior businesses. The seamless marriage of the two spaces allows interior designers and customers alike to turn dreams into reality. Interior designers start upstairs in the library with their clients, researching fabrics, textures, layouts, and color schemes, and then go downstairs and sample furniture or artwork pieces that fit the clients’ wishes.

Being able to create an interior design vision and bring it to life in the same space is quite special.

With help from the small, knowledgeable in-house team, designers and customers are well-equipped to find inspiration for their homes. After all, it is at home where we find we can truly be ourselves and discover simple moments of joy and ease. The question is, why not do it in style?

While DL Home & Garden’s stylish and chic showroom spans the first floor of the historic building, the second floor is home to Designers Library, a large studio that is an interior designer’s heavenly oasis of creativity and wonder. As the largest fabric library in the tri-state area, this library carries more than 200 interior design vendors.

When owner Bob Breissinger began his career as an interior designer over thirty years ago, he formed strong relationships with various manufacturers around the country. As he began carrying the manufacturers’ samples and building connections with other interior designers in the area, he started Designers Library as an auxiliary business that enabled designers to buy goods at wholesale. This, in turn, directly supported interior designers growing their own businesses.

• 1.5 lb beef tenderloin roast • olive oil • salt & pepper • 1 loaf baguette, sourdough, asiago loaf, or bread of choice, sliced • 6 shallots, sliced, not minced • ½ cup butter + 4 tbsp • 1 cup mayonnaise • ¼ cup fig jam • 1 tsp kosher salt • 1 tsp pepper • 1 tsp fresh thyme 1. Heat 3 tbsp of butter on medium heat then add the shallots, stir until coated, add a pinch of salt and brown them until caramelized. Make sure the pan doesn’t get too hot or the butter will burn. Continue this process of cooking and deglazing until the onions have reached the color, flavor, and texture you desire.

2. Preheat oven to 400º 3. Rub roast with olive oil and season with salt and pepper on all sides.

4. Melt ½ cup butter on medium high heat in a skillet. Add roast once the pan is hot.

5. Brown each side, including the ends; you want a nice brown “crust” on each side. Add more butter as you go, if needed, so you don’t let the pan dry.

6. Bake at 400º for 25 minutes 7. Remove from oven and tent it with foil to keep warm for 10 minutes.

8. Slice the meat thin. Set aside.

9. Mix mayonnaise, jam, salt, pepper and thyme in a bowl until combined.

10. Sauté 2 tbsp butter in a separate skillet. Add bread slices in one layer. Pan fry on both sides until a nice golden brown color.

11. Spread thyme mayo on bread slice. Place 1-2 slices of beef on top. Add a spoonful of the caramelized shallots and a piece of fresh thyme.

DELICIOUS DISHES TO BRING THE MAGIC OF THE HOLIDAY SEASON Combining food & tradition with Ashley Presciutti of Wishes and Dishes

T

he holidays are a flurry of activity, from wrapping that perfect last-minute gift, finding yourself “up to your ears in flour” in the kitchen, and melding new traditions with old as we embrace the season. It’s a symphony of all our senses: heady scents, illustrious sights and sounds, warm touches, and perhaps most important: delectable tastes!

For Ashley Presciutti, the holidays are a special time of year. Having

run her food and travel blog, Wishes and Dishes, since September 2011, she has spent the past decade developing recipes, creating content, and perfecting her skills as a food photographer, posting “primarily family-friendly recipes that are accessible for any level of cook.”

Though her interest in cooking wasn’t sparked until her mid-20s as she married, Ashley grew up with an Italian father who taught her to appreciate the love of making Italian food. She says she’s had remarkable growth since that first dish she made with dad, his famous spaghetti sauce and meatballs, and her love of family is evident in every recipe she shares. “I started Wishes and Dishes merely as a hobby, and

it turned into a successful business once I started gaining followers on my blog and social media channels,” Ashley says. “Blogging my recipes gives me that extra push in the kitchen to keep innovating, experimenting, and challenging myself.”

She was first inspired to take up cooking by her husband, Nick, who often serves as her guinea pig and “official (sometimes brutally honest)” taste-tester, offering nothing but encouragement—and his graphic design skills—on her journey.

“I absolutely love what I do in that I can be my own boss, work from home, and be with my 5-year-old daughter every day,” she says. Her

CA R A M E L A P P L E C H E E S E BA L L • ¾ cup walnuts • 1 8-ounce package cream cheese (softened) • 1 ½ cups shredded sharp cheddar cheese • ¾ green or red apple, diced • 1 tablespoon caramel sauce (plus extra for drizzling) • Pinch of nutmeg • crackers for serving

1. Toast walnuts in the oven or in a skillet on the stovetop over medium-high heat just until browning starts, stirring often; about 5 minutes.

2. Remove and let them cool completely. Chop or crush walnut into small pieces using a rolling pin or anything else you have on hand.

3. In a medium mixing bowl, stir together softened cream cheese and cheddar cheese until well incorporated.

4. Mix in diced apple, nutmeg and caramel until ingredients are evenly incorporated. Use hands to roll into a ball shape.

5. Spread walnut pieces on a plate or cutting board, and roll cheese ball to evenly coat the outside. Drizzle top with extra caramel sauce and serve with crackers. Enjoy!

daughter, Eliza, enjoys cooking and baking with mom. Ashley says, “Involving her takes extra time, but it is totally worth it to see her excitement over the feeling she helped cook dinner or bake a special dessert.”

G R A N DM A’ S TIRAMISU

Ashley admits that trying out new recipes requires a lot of patience, one of the hardest parts of the job. She tests most recipes at least 2-3 times, and while there are some delicious dishes that made it out of the kitchen, there are also some that… have not.

“I am pretty much a completely self-taught home cook, and I learn most things by trial and error,” Ashley says, still learning something new every week in her kitchen twelve years in. Her biggest piece of advice for any novice, or anyone who just wants to cook, is “to keep trying and persevere if you’re trying to perfect a particular recipe! Massive kitchen fails make me want to melt into a puddle of tears on occasion, but I can’t let mistakes like that stop me in the future. Cooking is not always perfect!”

As for many, the holidays are a special time of year and carry a sense of magic for Ashley and her family. She likens herself to a little kid and admits that she’s been known to sometimes even start decorating for Christmas and have her tree up in October. While the decorations are always nice, she also says one of her favorite things about the season is being surrounded by family—and the food!

“THE HOLIDAYS ARE SERIOUSLY MAGICAL AFTER HAVING A CHILD. IT’S LIKE LIVING MY CHILDHOOD ALL OVER AGAIN, SOMETHING I DIDN’T KNOW HOW MUCH I’D ENJOY,” SHE SAYS. Having started a family of her own, the holidays are even more meaningful now—even if there are still times when she’s “stressed to the max or running around like a lunatic,” but who isn’t? She has carried on traditions she followed as a child, along with starting some of her own with her husband to leave their own indelible mark on the Christmas season.

“Two things I continue to do now that I have my own family are taking long nighttime drives to see all the beautiful lights, and baking my mom’s famous cut-out cookies,” she shares, along with a delicious sugar cookie recipe featured on her blog, declaring she won’t let the magic die.

With her husband and daughter, though, “I also love the new tradition we’ve started of a cozy breakfast of warm cinnamon rolls on Christmas morning, slowly opening our gifts, and lying around with Christmas music in the background.”

Traditional Grandma’s Tiramisu is an authentic classic coffee-flavored Italian dessert idea for holidays or really any occasion!

• 6 egg yolks • ¾ cup white sugar • ⅔ cup milk • 1¼ cups heavy cream • ½ teaspoon vanilla extract • 1 pound mascarpone cheese • ½ cup strong brewed coffee, room temperature • 4 tablespoons dark rum • 3-4 (3 ounce) packages ladyfinger cookies • 1 tablespoon cocoa powder 1. In a medium saucepan, whisk together egg yolks and sugar until well blended. Whisk in milk and cook over medium heat, stirring constantly, until mixture boils.

2. Boil gently for 1 minute, remove from heat, and allow to cool slightly. Cover tightly and chill in refrigerator for 1 hour.

3. In a medium mixing bowl, beat cream with vanilla until stiff peaks form. Whisk mascarpone into yolk mixture until smooth.

4. In a small bowl, combine coffee and rum. Take the ladyfingers and drizzle with coffee mixture.

5. Arrange half the soaked ladyfingers in bottom of a large rectangle casserole dish (9x13 works great).

Spread half the mascarpone mixture over ladyfingers, then half the whipped cream over that.

6. Repeat layers and sprinkle with cocoa powder. Cover and refrigerate until set, overnight or up to 24 hours for best flavor.

As the holiday season approaches, so does the heartwarming spirit of giving. Rochester’s generous community is shining brighter than ever with help from the Bivona and the Willie Bee Foundation. These two remarkable non-profits bring a sense of hope and unity as they raise awareness and funds for crucial causes. The true magic of Rochester’s holiday season is the way it combines the joy of celebration with the power of compassion, making it a season of giving that truly touches the lives of many.

T

The Willie Bee Foundation, a heartwarming not-for-profit organization, came to life in 2017 with a beautiful purpose: to offer support to families in our local community facing the daunting challenge of a child’s life-threatening illness. The inspiration behind this incredible foundation is the memory of a young hero, Will Beeman, who touched our lives with his remarkable spirit. Will valiantly battled AT/ RT, an aggressive brain tumor, for nearly twenty months, showing immense courage.

His journey involved numerous surgeries, six rounds of high dose chemotherapy with stem cell recovery, and thirty proton beam radiation treatments.

Will’s parents, Christine and Clay, were forever changed. Christine says, “I became aware of a world I didn’t know existed before, and I watched my child show resilience, strength, courage, and happiness in the face of a devastating diagnosis.” Clay adds that “As a father you want to provide for your family and keep your children safe. You are supposed to be the protector. To watch your child suffer and not be able to do anything to fix it forever changes you.”

The Beemans and their friends and family created the Willie Bee Foundation to help

support local families going through what they experienced. They explain, “Our love for Will is a love without end, and we miss him more than words could ever say. Throughout Will’s illness we experienced the difference that caring, compassionate, and empathetic individuals can make in a family’s life when they are facing the unthinkable.”

The Foundation’s mission is to make a difference one family at a time. By helping families with monetary, medical, and social support services they may not otherwise have access to, “We can show them that WE care and that they are not alone.” Clay explains, “This foundation [allows] Will to not be forgotten and for something positive to come out of a heartbreaking and devastating situation.”

The Willie Bee Foundation lightens family burdens by providing tailored support such as creating iPad packages for kids during hospital stays, caregiver care packages, and end-of-life comfort items. For the family, they collaborate with Splatters Studio for family keepsakes, grant "mini-wishes," handle winter plowing and so much more – everything they can to ease family stress.

The Beemans and the Willie Bee Foundation say, “It is our sincere honor and privilege to provide what we do for families. Every single child, sibling, and family we meet holds a special place in our hearts. We consider everything we do to be gifts Will is giving us.”

Get into the holiday spirit and help raise money for a worthy cause this year by supporting the Bivona Holiday Lights Tour. Initially created in 2020, this tour is quickly becoming a well-known holiday tradition among Western New Yorkers. More importantly, funds raised help Bivona care for and treat abused and neglected children in our local community.

Bivona Child Advocacy Center is a non-profit 501(c)3 organization located in Rochester’s South Wedge neighborhood. As a resource for abused and neglected children, Bivona’s services are vital to our community and surrounding areas.

You may not feel that this effects you, but according to Bivona, approximately 1 in 10 children have been impacted by sexual abuse before they reach 18, a sobering statistic to remind us that participation in events such as Bivona’s Holiday Lights Tour helps promote a healthy and caring future generation.

Ashley Dotter, Senior Events Manager at Bivona, says, “We provide educational opportunities that cover the prevalence, dynamics, and impacts of child abuse as well as how to prevent it.” She suggests parents of schoolaged children reach out to their school administration to find out how the school educates children about sexual abuse, and contact Bivona Child Advocacy Center if there is not already such curriculum.

This year, Bivona teams up with Rochester Gas & Electric and Montage Wealth Management for the Holiday Lights Tour, and encourage residents across the area to participate. If you love to deck the halls and decorate your house with holiday lights and funky décor, be a part of the tour! The more festive, the better. Excessive and theatrical holiday displays are part of what make this tour enjoyable and uplifting for all who take part in the event. As COVID precautions may increase again for the colder months, the tour remains a safe, creative way to enjoy the holidays and get out of the house for a fun night on the town with your loved ones.

In lieu of tickets, participants can purchase a limited edition “sleigh box” including an easy-to-follow map guide, treats, goodies, and games to keep children occupied in the car during the tour. Bivona opens its Mt. Hope location to the public on December 9th from 5-8pm to pick-up sleigh box purchases and say hello to Mr. & Mrs. Claus! Or celebrate the season of giving by purchasing a sleigh box to donate to a family who has come to Bivona Child Advocacy Center in their time of critical need.

All throughout our area, light displays are such a beloved holiday tradition. Make sure to add the Bivona Holiday Lights Tour to your list – from December 9th through New Year’s Day, luminous wonders will await at every turn!

Rochester City Ballet’s

‘NUTCRACKER’ TRADITION

The Rochester City Ballet (RCB) is adding a never-before-seen twist on a classic tale with this year’s highly anticipated “The Nutcracker” ballet.

For the first time in RCB history, newly appointed co-artistic directors, Shannon Rodriguez and Megan Kamler, are set to both direct and perform in this beloved holiday tale.

Rodriguez and Kamler bring a wealth of knowledge and experience to the show.

Rodriguez has been a member of the Rochester City Ballet since 2011, and Kamler since 2015.

Both are excited to create a new generation of ballet lovers while retaining the magic and whimsy of the long-standing tradition.

Responsible for the overall dance and outreach programs of RCB, Rodriguez and Kamler provide leadership and guidance in the areas of artistic performance, vision, and modernization.

Originally established in 1987 by Timothy M. Draper as a student-based company, the Rochester City Ballet is the only professional dance company in New York State outside of New York City.

It was Draper’s unique vision to bring performing arts to Western NY and to give local aspiring artists the chance to study world class ballet and dance without leaving their own backyards. In truth, Draper always had Rochester in his heart.

With this passion and determination, the Timothy M Draper school evolved into what is now the Rochester City Ballet.

The concept was twofold.

According to Rodriguez, “Timothy Draper founded the school when he saw that there was no professional ballet school in Rochester; here dancers would have a chance to dance professionally with the RCB.” By doing so, Western NY has been able to retain local talent and attract and recruit highly skilled dancers from all over the country. Recently the Schubert Foundation acknowledged the Rochester City Ballet for versatility in dance in 2017.

The Rochester Philharmonic Orchestra (RPO) has played an essential role in the “The Nutcracker” tradition with the Rochester City Ballet for generations. This partnership allows sugar plum fairies, angels, and snow queens to come to life before the audience’s eyes as they transport to the land of the four realms. Performers and viewers are equally inspired by this magical and ethereal experience.

“For me, I think it’s fortunate for us to be with the RPO. The feeling we get from being around live music complements the whole experience,” Kamler says.

Of course, no “Nutcracker” performance would be complete without the right Clara. She is the heroine of this fantasy she creates in her mind after receiving the nutcracker as a gift for the Christmas holiday. After a Christmas party, Clara goes to sleep and glides through the four realms of the Nutcracker experience.

Starting with the Sugar Plum Fairy’s Land of Sweets, Shiver’s Land of Snowflakes, then moving on to the Land of the Flowers, and finally reaching the Land of Amusements. Two young local actresses were chosen for the part of Clara this year.

“I think Shannon and I are both excited to reach out to younger actors, so we’re creating a new generation of ballet lovers and instilling that love of dance,” Kamler says. The production has over 100 children from Monroe to Livingston County, Canandaigua to Batavia. The directors agree that the “The Nutcracker” was a “huge part of our memory growing up,” and they look forward to carrying on the tradition.

This year, the RCB is performing two “sensory-friendly” performances in Rochester and Canandaigua. In addition, the RCB is excited to announce that for the first time ever they are adding a performance at Elba Central High School in Genesee County.

Become more efficient at your workplace and/or at home by delegating tasks! * Allocate “me time” to recharge with a short break, exercise, or relaxation. * Block out time for work and family life to maximize productivity. Small business owner and mental health advocate, Grace Bellanca is on a mission to bring joy to others through local, handmade gifts. As the founder of Roc Made Goods, a seasonal artisan market and Ash + Willow Co., a handmade craft business focused on recovery gifts, Grace is just getting started bringing hope and cheer to the community.

As a Rochester native, she has been immersed in the local handmade goods scene for almost a decade, but her experience goes far beyond that. dedication and passion for their respective crafts – her father a talented tattoo artist and mother a maker of all kinds – has always inspired her to create things of her own that have purpose and meaning.

Look Out For One Another:

Be considerate, mindful, and kind. All these things can go a really long way, especially during the holidays. Make sure to look out for yourself as well. It’s a busy season but you need to prioritize your well-being and make sure your needs are being met. Hydrate, communicate and don’t isolate.

Create More Conversations:

Sharing resources and including topics focused on mental health and addiction recovery at mainstream events and in the media will help us continue to fight the battle for mental health as well as against substance abuse.

This year, members of the Jewish faith will celebrate Hanukkah from December 7th – 15th. For eight nights, the community lights the Hanukkiah, or the menorah used during Hanukkah, to commemorate the miracle of lights. As the story goes, after Judah and the Maccabees fought for freedom from religious persecution, they found a small amount of oil in the destroyed Holy Temple to light the menorah for only one day. The miracle is that the oil lasted eight days and nights, hence the commemoration for eight nights of Hanukkah.

While Hanukkah is not considered a high holiday in the Jewish religion, it is recognized as a joyous time of celebration for secular and religious Jews alike to gather with loved ones. Rochester is home to a large Jewish community, and there are many exciting events coming up this holiday season to recognize Hanukkah with family and friends.

COMMUNITY CELEBRATIONS Starting the weekend before Hanukkah on Sunday, December 3rd, visit the ROC Holiday Village 11am - 6pm for a day of Hanukkah celebration. With live music, crafts, and tasty treats, this event honors and celebrates the Jewish community and their presence here in Rochester.

The same weekend, visit Temple Sinai for their annual Hanukkah Bazaar. On Saturday, December 2nd from 7-9pm and Sunday, December 3rd from 9:30am-1pm, explore many local vendors for festive holiday gifts and beautiful artwork.

Temple Sinai will also host a Tableside Shabbat on Friday, December 8th starting at 5:30pm, where guests will share a meal and each bring their own Hanukkiah for a communal lighting ceremony. Gather in the light and enjoy a Shabbat service, music, and arts and crafts for the children. To attend, please pre-register online at tsinai.org/events.

The Jewish Community Center of Rochester will host Light, Peace and Latkes Featuring Rick Recht on Monday, December 11th from 5:30-8pm. This concert is open to the public and is a funfilled way to celebrate Hanukkah through music. Additionally, the Chabad of Rochester and the Chabad of Pittsford will both host their annual outdoor giant menorah lightings. Rochester’s lighting will be at Washington Square Park on Thursday, December 7th at 5pm, and Pittsford’s lighting will be in the Pittsford library parking lot on Sunday, December 10th at 4:30pm. The Chabad will also sponsor public menorah lightings in Penfield, Fairport, Honeoye Falls, Henrietta, and Brighton this year.

D ON’T FORGET THE FOOD! In addition to lighting the menorah for eight nights, families spend time cooking and baking traditional foods that commemorate Hanukkah. Perhaps the most well-known Hanukkah food is the latke, a potato pancake fried in oil that represents the oil that lasted for eight days and nights in the temple. Often served with sour cream or apple sauce, these fried pancakes are a delicious way to get in the Hanukkah spirit. Making potato latkes is fun, delicious, a bit messy, and very rewarding. It’s a wonderful time to share memories and catch up with loved ones, as it takes a while to prepare all the potatoes and convert them into scrumptious pancakes!

Challah is a traditional and beloved bread in Jewish cuisine, often enjoyed on special occasions and during the weekly Shabbat (Sabbath) meal. This soft, slightly sweet bread is easily recognizable by its braided appearance, which carries deep cultural and religious significance. Stop in to Malek’s Bakery on Monroe Ave. to enjoy Challah made fresh from scratch, all day, every day!

Sufganiyot are also a staple for the Hanukkah dinner (and dessert) table. Delicious, fluffy, jelly or custard-filled fried donuts are shared between family and friends to bask in the sweetness of the holiday season together.

Other dishes you’ll find on the dinner table include kugel (a traditional sweet noodle dish), brisket, and matzo ball soup.

Don’t forget about gelt, which are chocolate coins used to play dreidel, a traditional Hanukkah game.

If you’ve been following along on her home journey, Sara’s “Bougie on a Budget” Instagram reels for holiday styling went viral last year, and for good reason! She offers affordable tips for home styling, leveraging pieces that look upscale and elevated without breaking the bank.

Sara Bragg is the creative mind behind @sarabragginteriors – a home décor and interior consulting business that has garnered an impressive community of followers on Instagram. Graduating from Alfred University School of Art and Design, Sara has always been passionate about home décor.

Working with her husband in the commercial construction field, interior consulting took shape while she was on maternity leave. As a mom of two, Sara loves sharing design ideas and styling tips that are beautiful, practical, and affordable.

“My mom always saves cereal and cracker boxes and wraps gifts in them. When my kids open their presents from Grandma and Grandpa, they get excited because they think they got a box of cereal, when really a new outfit is inside the box! And for an added bonus, my mom will add in spare change or a bag of rocks or magazines to make the box feel heavier. She then wraps them in beautiful wrapping paper (that you can find at the dollar store) and adds a cute velvet bow! It doesn’t have to be big or extravagant; remember, less is more! SARA'S DÉCOR TIPS Tip 1 Check out stores such as Pottery Barn, West Elm, CB2, Crate and Barrel, and local boutiques and furniture stores to get ideas and find pieces you really like. Keep an eye on them and shop the sales to know when items are marked down or on a promotion.

SARAH’S TIPS

Tip 2 If you find something you really like, but can’t bring yourself to splurge on it, try to find a dupe! Short for duplicate, a dupe is an item that has the same aesthetic look but is available at a cheaper price from another store or vendor. Sara says, “I always research to compare.”

Tip 3 Repurpose what you already have. If you have something you no longer use, find a way to turn it into something else. For example, old garland you don’t hang anymore could turn into something like a centerpiece accent or an addition to an existing wreath to give it new life.

Tip 4 Shop off-season. Especially for items such as garland and florals, using realistic stems can go a long way in elevating your look. However, you don’t always have to splurge to get the look you want. Many of these items (such as the viral Norfolk garland) go on sale in the summer, and you can snag them at a much lower price. This can be a great way to get the items you’ve been eyeing!

Tip 5 Pay attention to the materials you choose and mix discount items with more expensive ones. One example is with ornaments. Sara suggests selecting ornaments that are matte, shiny, or glittery in rich, moody colors such as brown, burgundy and mercury glass. She mixes these with other “splurge” items to achieve an elevated look for her tree, mantle, and stairwell.

“Adding glitz and glamour will always create a more elegant and sophisticated look,” Sara explains.
