Nick, Service Manager

For Nick, Volvo’s Service Manager, a strong work ethic and a genuine care for people have been guiding principles throughout life. He says, “I grew up in a small town, working on a farm, learning good work ethics and how to be kind to people, which has helped me a ton in my travels.” Those early lessons continue to shape his approach to leadership and customer care every day.

“In the auto industry things go wrong — cars break, people get upset, and it makes me feel really proud when we can take a bad situation and make it better,” Nick explains. “I like to pretend I am Mr. Fix-It.” That drive to find solutions and restore trust is at the heart of what he does.

Nick’s commitment extends far beyond daily repairs. “I will never let a car leave the service department in a manner of being unsafe,” he says, a promise that speaks to his deep sense of responsibility to both customers and his team.

Professionally and personally, Nick strives “to leave a lasting legacy to be the best I can be both at home and at work.” His philosophy on life is simple but sincere: “Live, Laugh, Love.”

When he’s not managing the service floor, Nick enjoys collecting shot glasses from his travels, a hobby that’s grown into a collection of several hundred. And when it comes to favorite vehicle, his pick reflects his sense of fun and curiosity: The Volvo C70 hard top convertible, noting that “as the top opens and closes it looks like a real-life transformer.”

Ruby Black, Director of Community and Employee Engagement

For Ruby Black, Executive Assistant and Director of Community and Employee Engagement at Volvo Cars Rochester, every day brings something new— and she wouldn’t have it any other way.

Born in Texas and raised in Maine, Ruby made her way to New York, where she now calls Penfield home with her husband and their two rescue dogs, PePe and Mateo—both adopted from Puerto Rico through MAD Rescue in Albion.

At Volvo, no two days are the same, Ruby says.

She organizes employee or customer events, delivers vehicles to customers, and coordinates with other Volvo dealerships. She works with managers on hiring and employee satisfaction and represents the dealership in the community through hiring events, sponsorships, and volunteer work.

Ruby’s passion is rooted in connection, and she says, “All personal strengths are recognized and utilized to make sure everyone, customers, employees, and the community, has a great experience.”

Outside of work, Ruby channels that same energy into Soles4Souls, a nonprofit that turns donated shoes into opportunity. In 2024, Ruby collected 10,000 pairs of shoes and this year, they’ve already collected more than 11,000. Ruby is also an active member of the Penfield Business Chamber, connecting with incredible people across the area.

Her favorite Volvo? The XC60, “the perfect size for my daily commute and road trips with my husband, PePe, and Mateo, and all the shoes we collect along the way!”

Ruby’s philosophy is simple: “Do good every day—and try to be better than yesterday.” It’s a motto that shines through in everything she does, both at Volvo and beyond.

Alexandria, Sales Manager

Growing up in Churchville, Alexandria never imagined her path would lead to managing a Volvo sales team. She began her automotive journey as a cashier and receptionist in the service department.

She has worked her way through the Business Development Center, into sales, and eventually helped build the dealership’s internet sales team.

“I love getting to know my customers and making the sales process fun and easy for them,” she says.

After a record year on the sales team and learning the finance department, Alexandria was recently promoted to Sales Manager. “I am so excited to see how I can impact the dealership, customers, and Garber in this role.”

Her favorite part of the job is making car buying as effortless as possible. Since most customers have very busy schedules, “We help them complete a majority of their research before ever coming in to the dealership via text, email, and phone.”

Her professional goal is to become a managing partner with the Garber organization, a company whose values and mission she deeply believes in.

Outside of work, Alexandria enjoys art, poetry, and racing, especially dirt car racing and NASCAR. Her favorite vehicle? “My 1992 Volvo 240,” she says, noting its iconic safety innovations and blueon-blue design. And when life gets challenging, she lives by one simple truth: “Sometimes you need to put it on a leaf, and let it float down the river.”

Jimmy, Sales Consultant

For Jimmy, Sales Consultant at Volvo, the automotive world isn’t just a career — it’s part of his DNA. “I have the car industry in my blood,” he says. Raised just blocks from Ford’s Highland Park plant, most famous for being where Henry Ford invented the moving assembly line, Jimmy’s father worked on the line at the famous Ford River Rouge plant.

At 23, Jimmy began his own automotive journey as a corporate district manager for Ford Motor Company. Since then, he has held roles as a sales, finance, and general manager, even serving as an interim car dealer, all experiences that have led him to what he calls his “happy place” at Volvo, where he gets to “interface directly with customers every day and sell them the best cars on the market.”

“I love everything about cars,” Jimmy says.

“We live in a car culture and will continue to do so for many, many, many years.” Helping customers find the right fit brings him joy, and he says, his goal is simple: “To have satisfied customers who know I am a phone call or text away.”

Jimmy’s favorite car is the C70 convertible with Polestar software, saying “They are fun to drive and affordable modern classics.” A former competitive tennis player, taught by his father from age two, Jimmy still brings the focus and discipline to his work, saying, “Focus forward. It’s hard sometimes, but necessary to get to the next goal.”

A Message From Your Town Supervisor Penfield Neighbor, It’s a great time to live and work in Penfield.

We continue to experience population growth and business growth, bucking the trend of many other communities throughout the region. This is something we can all be proud of and is a direct result of the outstanding quality of life and business environment our community offers.

From providing much-needed goods and services close to home, to supporting a strong tax base, Penfield businesses are critical to the success of our community. Businesses of all kinds, especially our small businesses, continue to choose Penfield as a top destination to grow.

With that said, our businesses cannot do it alone. Leading the efforts to make our business community successful is the Penfield Business Chamber (PBC). I want to extend my gratitude to PBC for working hard each day to help businesses grow and prosper. The work you do does not go unnoticed, and for that we are very thankful. I’ve had the privilege of joining PBC at more than 20 ribbon-cutting events throughout the past couple of years, and it is something that never gets old. It’s always special to see business owners, many who are Penfield residents, achieve this milestone and realize their dreams.

As a Town, it’s critical that we continue to enhance the quality of life, making Penfield attractive for new residents and businesses alike.

We’re moving forward with several projects that support this mission like a new Department of Public Works facility, new lodge space at Shadow Pines with the rehabilitation of the Alpheus Clark House, and the construction of a comfort station at LaSalle’s Landing Park.

A Message From Your Chamber President Dear Chamber Members, As we near the close of another successful year, I want to take a moment to express my sincere gratitude to each of you for being an integral part of the Penfield Business Chamber. Your support, energy and commitment to the community are what makes this Chamber such a vibrant and valuable organization.

This year has been especially meaningful to me in my role as President.

I am proud to have served as a brand ambassador for Canandaigua National Bank, strengthening our partnerships and highlighting the importance of collaboration between businesses and the community. I have also had the privilege of leading our Chamber through an exciting re-launch of our brand. It is a fresh identity that better reflects who we are today and where we are headed in the future. I would like to thank the board members for their part in the design and launch of our new logo!

Beyond these milestones, one of my greatest joys has been actively engaging with so many of you at events, ribbon cuttings, and community initiatives. Together we’ve celebrated new beginnings, one another’s growth and reinforced the Chamber’s role as a connector to Penfield and beyond.

The Penfield Business Chamber started PENFEST 5 years ago. Since then, it has blossomed into a Penfield family friendly tradition. From 25 vendors and 3 food trucks, PENFEST keeps growing. Moving to HarrisWhalen Park allowed us room for 75 vendors and 8 food vendors and 1,200 attendees. The Chamber distributed 300 tote bags full of goodies to the first 300 people. Our kid zone expanded with the popular face painting table along with 2 bounce houses - one for toddlers and one for the older children. Aerial Arts of Rochester wowed everyone with all of their twists and turns and even had a performer on stilts.

Once again, local businesses and individuals were generous with their donations for our raffle tent with restaurant gift cards, retail gift cards, gourmet baskets, and unique gift baskets, plus many more items. The dollars generated from the raffle equaled the largest amount ever raised. We were proud to share the proceeds with Penfield Hope.

The Penfield community showed their generosity by donating 500 pairs of shoes in all conditions to help Souls4Soles raise 10,000 pairs for 54 countries around the world.

Penfield Town Supervisor Jeff Leenhouts and his team were there to officially announce the start of PENFEST 2025.

The Penfield Business Chamber knows the continued success of PENFEST is because of the many people who volunteer their time.

Thanks also to the Penfield Recreation department and their teams, the Penfield Ambulance Corp, and the Penfield High School students.

As Penfield Business Chamber celebrates its 33rd year, their Board of Directors and their members deserve a huge thanks for continuing to help Penfield grow and thrive.

This program recognizes and celebrates the achievements of Chamber business members.

This award is given annually

by The Penfield Business Chamber to honor a local business that has significantly contributed to the vitality and success of the ever-growing Penfield business community.

For over 35 years, Laurie Broccolo and her husband, Al, have been passionate about their business, their customers, their employees, and the Penfield community.

They offer a wide range of services. Their landscape division designs/installs lawns and gardens as well as offering maintenance of customers lawns. Plus, there’s The B-Friendly Farm.

Nestled in the heart of Penfield, The Barn, built in 1900 located at the Broccolo Garden Center, is a charming, newly renovated event center that combines rustic elegance with modern amenities.

From collaborating with organizations like the Penfield Business Chamber and Rotary to hosting fundraising events for non-profits, the Broccolo family welcomes groups seeking an inspiring venue to support their mission.

The B-Friendly Farm is more than just an event space—it’s an interactive educational experience.

Groups can enjoy private tours of the farm, explore the butterfly house, and wander through wildflower fields.

They can also take part in educational programs and workshops for schools, home-school groups and organizations of all kinds. Visitors can observe honeybee hives, visit the chicken coop, and learn about permaculture in the urban orchard.

For all the above and more, Broccolo’s Garden Center, Landscape, and The B-Friendly Barn well deserves to be the Penfield Business Chamber Business of the Year.

These businesses demonstrate excellence in various areas as well as community involvement.

Penfield Pride Award This award recognizes a local business that has revitalized an existing building, giving it a vibrant new look or repurposing it in a way that adds value to the Penfield community.

Durst Image Technology U.S., the North American arm of Italy-based Durst Group, officially relocated its U.S. headquarters to Penfield, NY in March 2024, transitioning from its longtime Henrietta site. Their new facility—at 667 Panorama Trail West—was redeveloped from a former athletic club into a modern, 40,000 square foot North American Headquarters. This move signaled Durst’s commitment to growth in North America, deepening its investment in our region while positioning the company to better serve our printing partners across the U.S. with the best service and latest innovations.

Daniel Penfield Award Daria Reitknecht, Featured Media/ Genesee Valley Penny Saver This award is given annually by the Penfield Business Chamber to honor a local businessperson who has positively impacted the Penfield business community through his or her community involvement, business practices and overall character.

Daria has been an active Penfield Business Chamber Board Member for 10 years. Her vision and unwavering dedication to the board and its activities is commendable. Daria has worked on various Chamber events, including: PENFEST has grown from a family-friendly event with 25 vendors and 3 food trucks to a large event with 75 vendors and 8 food trucks. The raffle tent has become one of the highlights of PENFEST, and Daria has encouraged Penfield businesses to donate gift cards, gift baskets and more. Dollars raised go to various charities and to the Chamber.

The JOB FAIR brings employers and Penfield High School students together to help students gain summer employment opportunities. It is a win-win for Penfield High School students and employers.

The PENFIELD BUSINESS CHAMBER BUSINESS DIRECTORY has grown into a 68-page guide. The directory provides information about the town, school, and recreation department. It also contains business ads and listings of current Chamber members.

Starting in 2026, the Penfield Business Chamber will be donating two annual SCHOOL SCHOLARSHIPS. One for a Penfield High School student and one for a BOCES student.

ANNUAL JOB FAIR

The Penfield Business Chamber is proud to partner with the Penfield High School since 2022 to host the annual Summer Job fair. This annual job fair helps students connect with local businesses for summer employment. Summer jobs help students build real world experience, develop responsibility and gain confidence while giving local businesses the seasonal help they need during the summer months. This job fair secured summer jobs for many students. There are various businesses that attend like The Rochester Police Department, The U.S. Navy, Monroe County Board of Elections, Penfield Recreation Department, many fast food restaurants, and more.

Students earned community service hours by volunteering for PENFEST, the Penfield Chamber’s annual family-friendly event.

We look forward to continuing to work with the Penfield High School for many successful job fairs in the future. It is a winwin for the community and the students.

OAKWOOD CEMETERY A Peaceful Reflection of Penfield’s Past and Present

Nestled along Baird and Whalen Roads in historic Penfield, Oakwood Cemetery and Mausoleum offers a serene, country cemetery setting surrounded by stately oak and pine trees. Its park-like grounds, filled with local history and natural beauty, serve as a quiet reminder of Penfield’s enduring legacy.

Incorporated in 1889 under New York State’s rural cemetery code, Oakwood Cemetery Association is managed by a volunteer board of trustees dedicated to maintaining an environment of peaceful and dignified remembrance.

The cemetery is the final resting place of many who shaped the community’s story, including town founder Daniel Penfield, ancestors of President George H.W. Bush, actors Peter and Geoff Deuel, and numerous veterans from the Revolutionary War through modern conflicts.

More than 16,000 individuals now rest across Oakwood’s nearly 29 acres, which have grown steadily since the first burial in 1812. The original trustees once envisioned Oakwood as “one of the finest country cemeteries in Western New York,” and today’s caretakers continue to honor that promise.

Oakwood is both a place of remembrance and a vibrant part of community life. Each October, visitors join guided tours sponsored by the Town of Penfield, exploring the stories behind the headstones. The cemetery also welcomes volunteers for special projects and encourages community groups to help preserve this historic landmark.

Opened in 2008, Oakwood’s lovely mausoleum provides above-ground entombment with full-sized crypts and cremation niches, along with a heated gathering room for committal services. The cemetery has a large amount of land for future expansion and will be around for generations to come. When purchasing a space, families become part owners of Oakwood Cemetery, receiving a “property deed” and voting rights in the association.

PENFIELD HOPE Listening to Understand and Serve

Penfield Hope, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit operating as a ministry of St. Joseph’s Church, has been a lifeline for families since 2018. Created in response to increasing requests for food and financial assistance, Penfield Hope was modeled after the successful Webster Hope, which has served its community for decades. Penfield Hope addresses immediate needs and helps area residents achieve family and housing stability.

This year, the Penfield Hope Board of Directors embraced an updated mission and vision: Following the example of Christ, Penfield Hope welcomes all and shares the abundance and generosity of the community with those in need. They engage with clients by listening with compassion to understand and serve their needs.

At its core, Penfield Hope operates a client-choice food pantry, providing essentials like food, household items, laundry detergent, and toilet paper. Since moving to 1771 Penfield Road in 2021, the pantry’s offerings have expanded to include dairy, produce, and meat, thanks to added refrigeration and freezer space.

New clothing and diapers are offered for children, and budgeting support is a cornerstone of Penfield Hope services, sometimes including rent or utility assistance.

Penfield Hope’s success lies in listening to families and understanding their challenges. Trained volunteers identify broader needs, connect clients with eligible benefits, and review household budgets, helping families regain stability and peace of mind. Co-directors

Cathy Glisson and Duncan Harris, along with key volunteers Terry and Julie Bedford, who manage food inventory and coordinate volunteers respectively, work tirelessly to ensure all needs are met.

Penfield Hope’s connection with the Penfield School District further extends its reach. In partnership with school social workers, the nonprofit ensures students have everything from school supplies to prom tickets, items not typically covered by other assistance programs.

This year, District Social Worker Melisssa Green provides ongoing education for Penfield Hope volunteers.

During the winter holidays, Penfield Hope hosts a gift drive to distribute toys, books, and winter clothing to local children. This year, the organization especially seeks donations of LEGO, card games, and books for teens.

Volunteers are the backbone of Penfield Hope, with 50+ dedicated individuals currently serving in roles ranging from office assistants to pantry support to building maintenance, logging over 5,000 hours last year. However, as the need continues to grow with rising food and rent costs, so does the demand for more hands. Penfield Hope always seeks volunteers to stock shelves, run collections, and help maintain the property.

Part of Rotary International, Penfield Rotary brings together business and community leaders to provide humanitarian services, encourage high ethical standards, and advance goodwill and peace globally.

This year, Penfield Rotary celebrates 76 years of fostering connections and creating positive change through community service projects in Penfield and the greater Rochester area. Joining Rotary offers opportunities to meet new people, serve the community, and grow both personally and professionally.

Initiatives include: • Youth Sponsorships, supporting local sports teams, Scouts, the Penfield High School Robotics Team, and providing academic and trade scholarships.

A Legacy of Service: Carmen Lonardo’s Path from Public Administration to Real Estate Excellence Carmen Lonardo’s journey into real estate was a bit unconventional. Growing up in an ethnic Italian household in Penfield in the 1970s, Carmen was deeply rooted in his community from a young age. His father ran the well-known Panorama Barber Shop for many years, and to this day, community members reminisce with Carmen about his father and his shop. Carmen loves the close-knit Penfield community and is proud to raise his son here.

Carmen did not set out to become a Realtor.

With a graduate degree in Public Administration, he dedicated 15 years to public service, serving in various roles in local government where he could contribute to the community’s well-being. As political tides shifted, Carmen transitioned into a new career in real estate.

Carmen knows the community inside and out, and his deep-rooted connections and understanding of the area particularly fit him for the real estate industry.

Over the years, Carmen served on the Penfield Zoning Board of Appeals and various committees, and he was Vice President and President of the Penfield Business Association (now the Business Chamber). DELAND HOUSE ON MAIN

DeLand House on Main, in the heart of Fairport is owned and run by Rochester native, Kim Rose, and her decade-long KRo Events business partner, Lindsay Feeley. DeLand House stands as a vibrant testament to community, history, and innovation.

During the pandemic, Kim proposed the idea of transforming the historic rooming house and restaurant into an event venue, and the rest is history. In November 2021, Main and Vine wine bar opened its doors and events kicked off a few months later in March 2022. Kim oversees day-to-day operations and Lindsay manages marketing, collaborating seamlessly to create the unique events venue.

Kim and Lindsay have worked hard to carefully renovate the DeLand House, preserving the charm of the original 1874 structure while introducing modern flair. A particular highlight is The Blind Pig, a speakeasystyle bar on the top floor, a nod to the building’s Prohibition-era past. Limited guest registrations create an exclusive experience there, with reservation spots often selling out within hours.

With nine different spaces spread over its three floors, DeLand House is a welcoming space for a wide array of events, large and small. Kim especially raves about the community of patrons who bring rich stories and memories, from decades-long traditions to new friendships forged at the bar. For Kim, it’s these connections that inspire her daily and make the hard work worthwhile, especially considering the challenges they faced in renovating the historic space.

The DeLand House continues to expand private and public events, live music offerings, and 3rd floor renovations. Main and Vine, a wine bar located on the house’s lower level, will continue its Windup Wednesday concert series. Enjoy live music outdoors on their newly refurbished porch Spring through early Fall.

Doty has guided BlueTie to profitability with plans to further expand by increasing revenue, hiring more employees, and continuing to support local colleges like RIT and the University of Rochester through internship opportunities.
