␣- Local Homeowners May Now Apply for Weatherization Assistance␣ Upon PathStone’s Announcement of $1.39 Million Grant -␣ ROCHESTER, NY (October 13, 2017) – PathStone has been awarded a grant increase to $1.39 million in funding for its Weatherization Assistance Program. This no-cost program, funded by NYS Homes and Community Renewal, helps incomeeligible homeowners in suburban Monroe County and focuses on households with senior citizens, persons with disabilities and households with children.␣Eligibility is based only on income and does not penalize for assets. Seniors living on a pension and social security will quite often qualify.

Income guidelines are: Family size of 1=$27,597 Family size of 2=$36,088 Family size of 3=$44,580 The program's professionally trained crews use computerized energy audits and advanced diagnostic equipment to identify energy-saving strategies in single-family, multi-family and mobile homes. Cost-effective weatherization measures and those measures that are essential for health and safety are then performed at no cost for eligible households.␣“The Weatherization Assistance Program helps families with limited incomes save an average of $238 a year on their energy bills,” said Chris Brandau, Director - PathStone Weatherization Program. “Common home improvements include additional insulation, air sealing and heating system repair or replacement.

Thanks to the additional program funding, PathStone will help more families save money year after year, which allows them to better cover other essentials such as food, clothing and medical care.”␣Since 1976, more than seven million households nationwide have experienced energy efficient, financial, health and safety gains as a result of weatherization measures.

Three Cheese Tortellini and Vegetable Primavera Preparation time: 5 minutes Cooking time: 10 to 15 minutes Serves: 4 to 6 Ingredients: 1 package Barilla Three Cheese Tortellini 1/2 bunch asparagus 1/2 cup scallion, white part only 3 tablespoons extra virgin olive oil 1 small zucchini, diced, seeded 2 plum tomatoes, diced, peeled Salt, to taste Black pepper, freshly ground, to taste 1/2 cup Parmigiano Reggiano Cheese, grated Directions: Bring a large pot of water to a boil. Remove the asparagus tips and cut the remaining part into 1/4-inch long pieces. Slice scallions into small rings.

Saute the scallions, zucchini and asparagus in oil in a medium skillet over medium heat for about eight minutes. Add tomatoes and saute for two more minutes. Season with salt and pepper.

Cook Three Cheese Tortellini according to package directions. Drain and add to the vegetable sauce. Sprinkle with cheese and serve.

The RH School Board was multi-racial at that time and still is. The Henrietta Town Board does not understand diversity representing the population as evident by Supervisor Jack Moore’s comment and still doesn’t.

Pregnancy possible after breast cancer More women are diagnosed with breast cancer than any other cancer. For many women, one of the more frightening aspects of a breast cancer diagnosis is the potential impact the disease can have on an area of the body often associated with femininity and motherhood.

Early detection and improvements in treatment have markedly decreased the numbers of breast cancer-related fatalities. However, the therapies used to treat breast cancer can affect fertility and a woman’s ability to have a successful pregnancy. While pregnancy after cancer treatment is often safe for both the baby and mother, women should still educate themselves about the potential effects of breast cancer treatment with regard to pregnancy.

Infertility risks and preserving fertility One of the main concerns women have after surviving a breast cancer diagnosis is the risk of infertility. Both chemotherapy and hormone therapy can impact fertility and decrease the window of time a woman has to have children. This is a particular concern for young women who have been diagnosed with breast cancer.

Chemotherapy can damage the ovaries, while tamoxifen, a commonly used hormone therapy, can cause irregular periods or stop the menstrual cycle altogether. Both of these treatments also may bring on natural menopause earlier than usual.

Young women can opt to have their unfertilized eggs or embryos frozen and stored prior to starting cancer treatment. It’s important to meet with a fertility specialist early on to discuss options.

Waiting game According to the American Cancer Society, some doctors advise breast cancer survivors to wait at least two years after finishing treatment before they try to get pregnant. No research yet indicates that getting pregnant will make women more susceptible to the cancer coming back, nor will pregnancy increase the risks of birth defects or other long-term health concerns in children born to women who have had breast cancer.

Breastfeeding after cancer Depending on the type of breast cancer treatment they receive, many women are still able to breastfeed. However, if radiation or surgery has affected breast health, milk production may be affected and the baby may have difficulty latching on. Using a breast pump to express milk may be an option. However, commercially produced infant formulas also can provide the nutrition growing babies need.

Choosing to have children after breast cancer is a personal decision. Thanks to medical advancements, the possibility to conceive and raise a family is strong.

Election Day occurs every November, and it’s the duty of all eligible United States citizens to exercise their right to vote. Doing so is the easiest w ay Americans can actively participate in government.

Participating in federal, state and local government can be done in many w ays, but few are as easy and important as voting. The follow ing are a few voting guidelines to consider as Election Day approaches.

ELIGIBILITY: Only United States citizens can vote in federal, state and local elections. In many states, voters must be 18 years old to vote.

How ever, some states do afford 17-year-olds the right to vote. Voter eligibility may also depend on the voter’s residency. Each state has its ow n residency requirements. To learn the requirements in your state, visit the United States Election Assistance Commission at w w w.eac.gov.

REGISTRATION: Voters must register to vote before they can vote in an election. The National M ail Voter Registration Form is accepted in most states, and this form can be found at w w w.eac.gov. In addition to helping voters register, this form can be used to update one’s registration due to a change of name or make a change of address or register w ith a particular political party. North Dakota, Wyoming, American Samoa, Guam, Puerto Rico, and the U.S. Virgin Islands do not accept the National M ail Voter Registration Form, w hile New Hampshire only accepts it as a request for an absentee voter mail-in registration form. Residents of these states or territories should consult their local state election office to learn how they can register to vote.

Voters may also be able to register to vote in person at various public facilities. By Susan Cook On Saturday Sept. 24, 2017, Girl Scouts from the Western New York council participated in the 48th annual Skills and Chills event at Camp Seven Hills Goodyear in Holland, NY. Skills and Chills is a yearly competition in the WNY council that allows Girl Scouts that are sixth-grade Cadettes through twelfth-grade Ambassadors to test their abilities and earn awards. A committee organizes the event and chooses judges who are subject matter experts in each field. Girls face off in events such as archery, orienteering, first aid, canoeing, tent pitching, log sawing, knots and lashing, and field sports.

Janet DePetrillo, Director of Outdoor Programs at the Girl Scouts of Western New York, stated, “The point of Skills and Chills is to bring all of our older girls together for an opportunity for team camaraderie, as well as individual competition. It’s really a bonding experience. They’re outdoors, it’s skill based and all about having fun!”

According to Troop 30646 co-leader Cindy Breeze, “Over the last year, we’ve probably practiced about forty-plus hours and we have a team of six with us today. We always work on outdoor skills when we do troop camping, plus girls have participated in many council events leading up to this. Many of my Girl Scouts did the Ready, Set, Camp program.”

DePetrillio commented, “This program really would not happen if not for the dedication of the group of women and men volunteers who sit on our committee. Together, they make this event happen. Without their skills, time, and talent, events like this where girls really come together and build their courage, confidence, and character wouldn’t occur. We are nothing without our girls and our volunteers.”

At the end of the evening, all the teams’ points were totaled and award ribbons were given out. Regardless of who won in each category, everyone cheered each other on and applauded the successes of their fellow Girl Scouts.

The hardest decision of my life was to take my Cocker Spaniel for her final visit. Her first visit and her last, was to the Perry Vet Clinic. The love and genuine concern, helped to ease the pain. For 12 years, they treated her with loving care. These people are blessed with a special gift and I hope they realize how much they are appreciated.

You’re a selfish man who only cares about his toys and not the living thing depressed in his backyard. It’s disgusting what people are allowed to get away with when it comes to the treatment of using a Beagle for hunting. You know who you are.

For Memorial Day this year, we went to the Veteran’s Store & bought a flag

holdercommemorating that our father had served in WWII. We discovered today that someone had stolen the flag & flag holder off of our father’s grave in [local] Cemetery. How sad that someone would steal from someone who served in a war so that we could all have freedom.

I was appalled by the actions of the owner of [local masonry]. I contacted him about some masonry work inside my home. We scheduled an appointment for 11:30. After 12 noon I called him and asked if he was coming or not. He told me he was there at 11:30 and took one look at my house and decided he wanted nothing to do with my business! How dare he judge whether a customer is worthy of his services or not! I hope others will steer clear of him and his business! I will find someone else who will appreciate my “cash” business!
