Mayor's Message With the restrictions imposed due to Covid-19 now fully lifted, the Village summer life has returned to normal. Our streets are again full of walking shoppers, the parking spaces along Main Street are at a premium, and the summer concerts, festivals, and movies in the park are in full swing.

Village Hall is open 8 am - 4:30 pm Monday through Thursday and 8 am – 11 am on Friday. Passports are a popular item, and we ask that those seeking them call for an appointment. All other business such as tax payments, building permits, etc., is available daily without an appointment. Board meetings are fully open to the public, generally the second and fourth Thursday of the month, or viewable online on the Village of Webster Facebook page.

The BID is again providing a great summer schedule of entertainment in the Village. The movies in the

park, the summer Friday night concert series, beer walks, Friday night family nights on Main Street, and the Jazz Fest have brought so many people into the Village.

The Fall featured our 9/11 memorial ceremony in Veterans Memorial Park. The Trick-or-Treat trail in October and the Veterans Day ceremony and luncheon highlighted the Fall activities. The year will again be capped off in December with White Christmas in the Village with Santa and his workshops in Vets Park followed by the Parade of Lights.

FRIENDS OF WEBSTER TRAILS FWT is a non-profit 501(c)(3) organization enthusiastically serving as the volunteer arm of the Webster Parks and Recreation Department. When FWT was established in 1997 its only activity was the maintenance of the Hojack Trail. With the Town’s acquisition of open space, FWT has now built 19.5 miles of trails in the Whiting Road Nature Preserve, Gosnell Big Woods Preserve, Four Mile Creek Preserve and other properties.

These trails provide a place for hiking, cycling, running, cross-country skiing, and snowshoeing.

Challenger Miracle Field

Webster Aquatic Center

Whether you are looking for a place to drop-in to swim, attend an aqua class or join one of our competitive swim or dive teams, the Webster Aquatic Center has everything aquatic. The Webster Aquatic Center offers family events, Watercize programs and swim lessons.

All programs are open to the public, although WAC members receive discounted rates. Registration for classes is through the Webster Central School District Community Education Department.

A one-of-a-kind sports complex for individuals with disabilities, located at Ridge Park. Celebrating unity over differences, fostering joy and togetherness as children and adults play, Challenger Field is a place where everyone belongs. The Challenger Miracle Field includes a rubberized cushioned turf surface that is fully wheelchair accessible, bases and pitching mounds painted onto the surface to avoid raised obstacles, and dugouts enlarged to accommodate wheelchairs and other apparatus. The ADA-compliant concession stands, restrooms, and a pavilion with 12 wheelchairaccessible picnic tables designed and built by Webster Schroeder’s GeoTech class, make a truly inclusive space for families and friends to enjoy life without barriers. The Karpus Family Playground provides a fully accessible sensory-rich play space for children with and without disabilities to play alongside each other.

Webster Parks and Recreation Ice Rink

Webster is home to a beautiful outdoor ice rink due to Webster Parks & Recreation and the Webster Rotary Club. With a warming hut and new liner thanks to Webster Rotary, the ice rink hosts skaters of all ages.

Just be sure to bring your own skates, as none are available at the rink.

Offering a wide range of leisure activities and services for Webster residents of all ages, their programs aim to promote personal fitness, social interactions, and enjoyment.

Webster Arboretum

A community park for the enjoyment of the outdoors and beautiful plants. Music in the Park series on Wednesdays once a month in the summer.

Webster Spray Parks

Webster boasts two spray parks open to cool visitors each summer, one at Ridgecrest Park (off of Ebner Drive), and the other the beautiful First Responders Spray Park near the Webster Recreation Center on Chiyoda Dr. Dedicated to Webster’s First Responders, the playground and splash pad on Chiyoda are firefighterthemed with all sorts of water-fun features including a fire hydrant, a Dalmatian fountain, and fire truck slide.

Ridgecrest’s spray park, just a short walk from the village center, boasts an adjacent playground and skate park.

Webster Park

One of Monroe County’s largest parks, sitting near Lake Road, and close to Route 250 and Holt Road. Spanning 550 acres, it features scenic evergreen-covered hills, rolling lakeside bluffs, and lush valleys. Nestled by Lake Ontario, it boasts a fishing pier, tennis/pickleball courts, a scout/youth camping zone, and a Trailer/Tent campground for various-sized units. The campground can accommodate tents, small trailers/pop-ups, and large Trailers/RVs/Mobile Homes. The park offers four enclosed Lodges, accommodating 36 to 100 individuals, with amenities like picnic tables, stoves, and grills. The White House and Lakefront Lodge have full kitchens. Additionally, six open-air shelters with picnic tables, grills, and bathrooms are available.

Four Mile Creek Preserve

Check out the collection of deserted classic cars as you walk the trails at Four Mile Creek Preserve at the corner of Lake and Phillips Rds. Still a mystery how the cars ended up in the middle of these woods, this collection adds wonder and nostalgia to hikers. Friends of Webster Trails, a local non-profit, helps maintain the trails of this unique preserve.

Eva and Harlan Braman Nature Preserve

The Eva and Harlan Braman Preserve comprises about 60 acres of successional previously farmed field and about 11 acres of mature forest near 1775 Ridge Rd. The multiple ecosystems of this preserve boast a wide variety of birds and wildlife, sure to delight visitors.

Webster Museum & Historical Society

At 18 Lapham Park, the Webster Museum is an incredible window to the past. With unique artifacts, captivating exhibits, and interesting stories throughout the space, the Webster Museum highlights the town’s agricultural origins, ties to basket making, the importance of its apple orchards, and much more.

Webster Economic Development Alliance Connecting. Facilitating. Communicating. Leading.

The Webster Economic Development Alliance (Alliance/WEDA) is the single entity in Webster, NY that links local government, schools and businesses together. Formed in 2009 as a not-for-profit corporation, the Alliance’s primary goals are to plan, organize and implement local community and economic development activities in Webster, NY. The Alliance is also the primary point of contact for coordination with larger economic development agencies in the Rochester and Finger Lakes Regions. The Alliance also provides our community with direction and leadership on strategic community projects by building public/private relationships and accessing resources to support continued investment, growth, and prosperity.

Since 2014, WEDA has secured $18.74 in State and Federal funding for every $1.00 in contributions from its local members.

Since 2014, WEDA has secured over $10 million in state and federal monies for local projects, including incentivizing private investment in targeted areas of our community. For example, in 2017 the Alliance partnered with the Village in securing $350,000

in State funds to support the revitalization of East Main Street, leveraging over $2 million in private investment in vacant buildings.

From 2015 to 2021, WEDA obtained $7.8 million for bicycle, pedestrian and park beautification and roadway improvements in both the Town and Village, including the construction funding for Sandbar Park.

Additionally, the Alliance has obtained over $200,000 in grant funds for the Reimagine Webster Initiative to create a Master Plan surrounding Xerox, and has led the development of the recently completed West Webster Hamlet Master Plan. These investments in quality-of-life resources are beneficial to both residents and businesses in Webster, fostering a safer, accessible and more equitable community for all its citizens.

The Alliance has been the driving force behind Webster being selected by Coca-Cola for the construction of the new 750,000 square-foot fairlife® dairy processing facility, bringing a once-in-a-generation $650 million investment into our community. Site selection representatives have indicated that the presence of WEDA and its ability to make connections between government and business was a major factor in the selection of Webster for this project that will create 250 high-paying jobs.

In 2024 and beyond, the Webster Economic Development Alliance will continue to work on behalf of businesses and its citizens and chart a path for enduring prosperity and advancement, making Webster a community of choice for living, working, investing and playing.

The tattoo process:

After consultation with the client to understand what the customer wants, the artist creates a design for the tattoo, often using a software design program called Procreate. The artist then creates a preliminary stencil of the design which can be applied to the body so the customer can visualize what the tattoo will look like.

The artist will “restencil” the design until the customer is satisfied. With the final design, the client’s skin is prepped, and the tattoo is applied on top of the stencil. A solution that speeds and better facilitates healing is applied, and in as little as a few days the process is fully complete.

He has been tattooing for 7 1/2 years, completely selftaught, with lots of help from friends along the way. He focuses on freehand pieces as well as black and grey realism, color realism, watercolor, neo-traditional, and anything else that pushes his limits to become a better tattoo artist.

Webster EMS / Northeast Quadrant Advanced Life Support Inc. Nestled between Lake Ontario and Irondequoit Bay, Webster offers diverse water-based recreational activities year-round. However, its geography with the lake and bay limiting access poses challenges for emergency medical services (EMS). To reduce delays from aid coming from neighboring communities, the Webster EMS contracts with Northeast Quadrant Advanced Life Support, Inc. (NEQALS) to provide ambulance services to Webster residents.

Formed in 1988, Northeast Quadrant Advanced Life Support Inc. addressed a crucial gap in prehospital care in Webster. Previously, critical treatment was delayed until basic life support arrived. NEQALS paramedics now deliver lifesaving care on-site, significantly improving survival rates. Today, NEQALS collaborates with fire departments, EMS agencies, and municipal ambulances, ensuring trained EMTs and paramedics staff their units, extending their impact beyond Webster.

These organizations pride themselves on providing high quality and timely emergency medical care that adapts to ever-growing challenges of prehospital care.

For the past 35 years, Webster EMS / NEQALS has responded to tens of thousands of calls for assistance in the towns of Webster, Penfield, and Ontario, as well as neighboring towns throughout Monroe and Wayne counties. In December 2021, they opened a new 11,000 square foot facility to help meet the organization’s needs.

What started as a small group of dedicated volunteers has blossomed into an agency that

provides emergency care around-the-clock to serve the community. With a team of over fifty EMTs and Paramedics, NEQALS responds to emergency medical calls with basic life support ambulances from other fire departments and local agencies.

The organization operates as a fully public, taxexempt, not-for-profit 501(c)(3) organization with a nearly $2.9 million annual budget. Local tax revenue does not support the organization and its community services. Instead, funding comes from ambulance services billing and critical private donations.

Syed Ahmed Mustafa (known as SAM), the organization’s Chief Executive Officer and President of its Board of Directors, considers his work with and support of the Webster EMS “a privilege,” allowing him and others affiliated with the organization to provide “life and death” service to the Webster community.

SAM says, “Webster EMS is a 24-7 organization that operates 365 days a year,” his phone ringing some twenty times every day for emergencies, and staffing/ supplies issues. “We exist to meet the needs of our friends and neighbors, and our organization is vital to the community,” he says.

As a community partner, Webster EMS welcomes community outreach opportunities to help your group, organization, or business learn about emergency care and promote good safety and health practices.

Elizabeth Wende Breast Care At Elizabeth Wende Breast Care (EWBC), they do what they do every day because: • 1 in 8 women will be diagnosed with breast cancer in her lifetime • Breast cancer is curable when detected early • Breast cancer is the most common cancer in American women • Most women diagnosed with breast cancer have no family history of the disease Breast cancer detection has come a long way since the 1970s, and the Rochester area played a considerable role advancing the technology to find breast cancer earlier. Tech giants such as Kodak and Xerox collaborated with the medical community, creating equipment and film for breast imaging.

However, film mammography had limitations,

specifically delayed image assessment, leading to extended wait times, repeat exams, and patient anxiety.

In the late 1990s into the 2000s, digital technology revolutionized mammography, enabling real-time image evaluation and enhanced and magnified views. In 2008, EWBC transitioned to fully digital mammography, and from 2009, they developed new digital breast tomosynthesis (DBT, aka 3D) research.

This technique captures detailed 1mm slice images in an arc-like pattern, surpassing standard mammograms in tissue depiction, enhancing cancer detection while reducing callbacks. FDA approval came in 2011, followed by EWBC’s full DBT implementation.

As technology advances, the ability to find small cancers earlier improves. Today, EWBC’s seven locations offer screening breast ultrasounds for patients with dense breast tissue. In their 48th year of serving Rochester and surrounding areas, they continue to invest in cutting-edge technologies and equipment for even more effective breast cancer detection. They also prioritize patients, providing same-day results for screening appointments, two expert radiologist readings for every mammogram, and a comprehensive cancer risk and genetics program, ensuring personalized and superior care for the community’s well-being.

Webster Central School District While the official school calendar kicked off on Tuesday, September 5 and ends in June for 8,000+ students, you may know that Webster CSD’s schools and district buildings remain hubs of activity and incredible resources for our One Webster community throughout the summer months.

Firstly, the district’s amazing buildings and grounds team works year-round to keep One Webster properties in pristine condition. Whether they’re mowing countless lawns outside or attending to cleaning details inside… this is one busy team. There are floors to be waxed, vacuuming to be done, and maintenance to district buildings that is attended to all year long.

Webster CSD’s outstanding Community Education department offers programs and classes for all ages throughout the year, including the summer months. During summer 2023 alone, the Community Education department offered college essay writing classes taught by Webster Schroeder and Webster Thomas staff members, water fitness classes (including water cycling classes using hydrorider bikes!) at the Webster Aquatic Center, and the everpopular swimming lessons for all ages. Our Community Education department also hosted a performance of “Beauty and the Beast” over the summer which was a highlight of the district’s seasonal programming!

You’ve also probably noticed how busy the district’s athletic fields and facilities remain throughout the summer. To name just a few, district coaches have hosted lacrosse, basketball, tennis, and strength and fitness camps and training sessions during the summer months.

And, learning never takes days off in Webster CSD! Our district hosted Camp Invention – a STEM-based program we present in partnership with the National Inventors Hall of Fame for our budding scientists. District educators and administrators also collaborated on the Extended School Year program and English as a New Language camp, along with summer tutoring sessions for students wanting to keep working on their academic skills.

Our staff never stops learning either! There were opportunities for professional development throughout the summer that included everything from literacy programs to data and technology training. Additionally, our front office school staff members, transportation department, and student registration department were busy preparing our schools with new schedules, welcoming new staff members, and keeping every building on track for the start of another school year.
