Introduction
The first Youth Olympic Games took place in Singapore in August 2010, attracting 3500 athletes representing 200 nations. The next Youth Olympic Games, which will be the second edition, will take place in Nanjing in 2014.
La première édition des Jeux Olympiques de la jeunesse était à Singapour en aout 2010, attirant 3500 athlètes de 200 pays. La prochaine édition des Jeux Olympiques de la jeunesse prendra place à Nankin en 2014.
To ensure that African athletes are sufficiently prepared to compete at the Youth Olympic Games, the Association of the National Olympic Committees of Africa (ANOCA) resolved to stage quadrennial African Youth Games (AYG). Morocco successfully delivered the inaugural edition of the Games; attracting more than 1000 youth from 41 African countries competing across 16 sporting codes.
Pour s’assurer que les athlètes africains soient adéquatement préparés pour cet événement, l’Association des comités nationaux olympiques de l’Afrique (ACNOA) a établi les Jeux africains de la jeunesse. En 2010, le Maroc a livré la première édition avec succès et a vu plus de 1000 jeunes athlètes de 41 pays prendre part dans 16 disciplines sportives.
In March 2013, ANOCA awarded Botswana the rights to host the second edition of the AYG to be held in 2014. The Games will be referred to as Gaborone 2014.
En mars 2013, l’ACNOA a accordé au Botswana les droits de tenir la deuxième édition de Jeux africains de la jeunesse en 2014 à Gaborone. The city has a rich history, coupled with modern infrastructure and entertainment. It presents easy access to areas of archaeological and cultural heritage, as well as wildlife and nature reserves.

In the meantime, it is important for countries that will be travelling through South Africa to establish and meet the visa requirement of that country. The BAYGOC will not be held responsible for NOC delegations that do not have South African transit visas, yet they have to travel through that country.

The University of Botswana has been designated as the Games Village. Countries will be allocated blocks of dormitories according to the size of their delegation. Athletes will be staying in twin rooms (2 beds sharing) with communal showers and toilets on every floor.
