GYSBI Achieves safety Milestone at Wale GTE Project
- one-year LTI-Free
Robert Albiez, GYSBI’s General Manager, and other members of our management team joined staff at the GTE site to celebrate a remarkable milestone of 365 days without any Lost Time Injuries (LTI) at the project site in Wales, West Bank Demerara.
A lost time injury (LTI) is an injury sustained on the job that results in the loss of productive work time. An occupational injury is considered an LTI only when the injured worker:
• Is unable to perform their regular job duties
• Requires time off to recover
GYSBI was contracted by LINDSAYCA CH4, which was selected by the Government of Guyana to construct an integrated Natural Gas Liquids (NGL) extraction
plant and a 300 MW power generation facility. Our role involves executing Earth, Soil Remediation, and Surcharge works at the site.
Before this engagement with LINDSAYCA CH4, GYSBI was entrusted by ExxonMobil Guyana with the Early Works and Heavy Haul Road project at the site. This involved constructing five bridges, an access road, a heavy haul road, and the initial site preparation for the Integrated Plant Site.
To commemorate this achievement, a small but meaningful ceremony was held, during which several staff members were recognized and awarded for their exceptional service and commitment to going above and beyond the call of duty.

He further explained that GYSBI and Muneshwers Limited continue to play a role in achieving this pursuit.

During both selection processes (2023 & 2024), the company intended to select ten (10) students; however, most of the applications were so captivating that Management decided to select eleven (11) students on both occasions.
A Commitment to Regional Development
For this batch of 2024/2025 scholars, the company focused on selecting students from Region Three (Essequibo Islands–West Demerara) in alignment with our ongoing role in the Gas-to-Energy (GTE) project in Wales. This programme was extended to one student, Daniel Henry, a student from South Rupununi, who is pursuing his education at the Georgetown Technical Institute.
During a simple congratulatory ceremony, our General Manager Robert Albiez, indicated that this scholarship initiative is a fundamental mark of the company’s interest in fostering young Guyanese talents.
I have been with Guyana Shore Base almost 7 years and in almost all my time here, this is the thing that I am most proud of, that we have put in place. I would like to congratulate [you] young men and women for your accomplishment... it is the things that you do now, the work, the time, and the effort and energy that you put into the things that you are doing today that will determine where you are in 10,15, 20 years, so keep that in mind. I think you are all well on the path
- ROBERT ALBIEZ, GENERAL MANAGER OF GYSBI
You are not always going to be the brightest, you are not always going to be the most talented, but you certainly can strive to be the hardest working and that is a huge advantage that you will have going forward in life. When you come here to GYSBI, through this scholarship, you have already proven to yourself and to us that you are capable of doing great things but don’t get complacent. Welcome to the GYSBI family, you are now a treasured part of it and once you are here, you will be safe, and you will be taken care of. A Moment Of Reflection For Keith Pierce
On December 13th, 2024, GYSBI held a solemn Hour of Tributes in honor of our late Chief Executive Officer, Keith Pierce, who tragically passed away just days earlier. The event brought together colleagues and friends to pay heartfelt respects to a man whose impact, though brief, left an indelible mark on our organization. Tributes were delivered by GYSBI’s Executive Director, Robin Muneshwer, General Manager, Robert Albiez, and several team members who had the privilege of working closely with Keith.
Keith was fondly remembered as a remarkable leader, a trusted friend, and a respected colleague. Despite his relatively short tenure at GYSBI, his warmth, vision,
and dedication resonated deeply with all who knew him. A Book of Condolence was made available for written tributes, allowing everyone to express their admiration and gratitude. These messages were later shared with Keith’s family, serving as a testament to the profound regard in which he was held.
His absence is deeply felt across the GYSBI family, and we continue to cherish the memories of his contributions and the positive energy he brought to our team. May his soul rest in eternal peace, and may his family find strength and comfort in the legacy he leaves behind.
Prostate Cancer Awareness
In observance of Prostate Cancer Awareness Month, GYSBI partnered with Woodlands Hospital to promote awareness and encourage early detection of prostate cancer.
As part of this initiative, a sensitisation session was held at our training centre to educate our male staff about prostate health and the critical role of regular
screenings during the process of early detection.
To further support our workforce, complimentary screenings were completed on male employees in efforts to prioritize proactive care and health of our workforce. Our partnership with Woodlands reflects our broader and joint mission to support the holistic wellness of our team.
Aspiring Young Professionals Tour Our Facilities
Participants of the Ministry of Natural Resources Youth in Natural Resources Apprenticeship Programme
paid a visit to our facilities to understand the company’s role in the Oil and Gas sector and the opportunities that exist. Stephen Clark, our Base Manager, conducted the detailed tour which provided each participant with a firsthand overview
of our operations and potential career paths.
As outlined by the Ministry, their apprenticeship programme aims to ignite the desire for career paths in mining, forestry, and oil & gas. To further explore these potential career paths, all participants have directly engaged with industry stakeholders, travelled to interior regions, and gained practical experience across various disciplines.
At GYSBI, we continue to reaffirm our support of this annual initiative, which aims to furnish and align young Guyanese talents with pioneering career paths.
Diwali Observance
Diwali, also referred to as Deepavali or Deepawali, is celebrated annually in observance of light over darkness.
This festival of lights celebration was observed at GYSBI with traditional seven curry dishes and an assortment of delicious sweetmeats, creating a warm
atmosphere which illuminated the workplace.
This annual observance not only honored the cultural significance of Diwali, but also provided the space for our staff to honour the festival’s core values—light, prosperity, and togetherness—while strengthening the bonds within our workplace.

Human Performance Training
GYSBI has been implementing Human Performance (HP) Training for both its workforce and leadership, fostering company-wide discussions. The core principle, “making it easier to get it right and harder to get it wrong when it matters most,” has become a guiding ethos.
Recently, GYSBI was honored to deliver this training to SBM’s management and workforce, gaining valuable insights into their warehouse and preservation operations.
Watch the video for training highlights and testimonials.
Bridging the Skills Gap in Guyana’s Oil Sector
Guyana’s rapidly expanding oil and gas sector faces a critical workforce challenge, as local labour struggles to meet the industry’s growing demands. A labour assessment by the Centre for Local Business Development (CLBD) in August 2023 projected the need for an additional 5,828 workers by 2028. The report highlighted surging demand for professionals
in science, engineering, construction, skilled trades, and mobile plant operations.
Lilowtie Chintamani, Human Resource Manager at GYSBI, underscored the difficulty of filling skilled positions, particularly Crane and Forklift Operators. She noted that while many candidates have experience, most lack the necessary licenses or certifications. GYSBI emphasizes safety and ensures each employee is certified, offering training and internships to address the skills gap and support workforce development.

Catering to forty children aged six to sixteen, the camp was held daily from 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. during the August holidays and was free of charge, making it accessible to all participants.
