Ika Rere: a JEC Innovation Awards finalist Ika Rere is a groundbreaking fully electric, high-speed passenger ferry built by Wellington Electric Boat Building Company in New Zealand. Commercial viability was key to the design and build of this 20-knot vessel, and was achieved through the use of Gurit advanced composite materials and structural engineering consultancy.
Nominated in the JEC Innovation Awards The ferry is a finalist in the JEC Innovation Awards, in the category of Maritime Transportation and Shipbuilding, where it was recognised for its unique propositions, including zero operating emissions, reduced energy and maintenance costs, and improved passenger experience. Gurit is honored to have been nominated for its work on Ika Rere. The 2022 award ceremony will be held on April 26, 2022 in Paris, France. Since their creation more than twenty years ago, the JEC Innovation Awards celebrate successful projects and cooperation between players in the composites industry.
