THE OFFICE PROJECT

The idea behind this cafe in an office project is to create a sophisticated space that also encourages occupants to interact with each other.

One of the biggest challenges was to seamlessly blend this casual space with the rest of the professional workplace.

FF&E and materials are carefully curated to provide an opulent look and feel to the space.

B anquet seatings are also strategically designed to accommodate more people while keeping the space look uncluttered.

THE GLANCE CHAIR

People often define minimalism by simplicity. Maybe because most of the things categorized as minimalistic are very simple and basic in appearance. But a minimalistic design doesn’t have to be simple.

To demonstrate this idea, I designed this chair which is intricate in design and minimalistic in appearance. Inspired by a basic metal rack and aspire to step into a sophisticated interior space.

This design holds a complex connection of the metal elements which is crowned by a white stable and uniform geometric figure. Here each metal part plays an important role in maintaining the structural integrity of this chair, making everything seem simple and necessary while still holding a complex design.

THE MARMOREAL SPACE

The project explores the idea of subterranean architecture and uses it to utilize the spaces which are left with no purpose.

Quarries are one of the best examples of such spaces. The process requires the removal of trees, wildlife, and soil from the site, and once the extraction is completed, the site is left with no purpose.

The project uses one of the abandoned quarries in Danby to exhibit the process and types of marble extracted from the site.

This will allow them to see the marble in its natural form and learn more about the Danby Quarry which produces some of the world’s famous and most used marbles. It is a lso the world’s largest underground marble quarry.

THE WELLNESS CENTER

A place designed to help people avoid major health issues like obesity and diabetes by providing a holistic approach to achieving and attaining a healthy lifestyle. The project comprises three major spaces; gardening, cooking, and exercise.

The concept behind the project is to learn and implement the science behind choosing and consuming the right calories and burning them through correct exercises.

Sometimes the interior volume needs to be adjusted to look visually pleasant. For instance, the dead space next to the elevator and the staircase needed to be reconfigured.

So I designed it into a single and even form that not only aligns with the rest of the interior but also utilizes the dead space for a new function.

The image on the right demonstrates the massing of the project.

Spatial volumes have been altered and merged into one another to improve connectivity and allow occupants to experience one space while being in another.

Different colors, materials, and levels have been used to help them distinguish the spaces while maintaining the connectivity.

The multipurpose space at the center of the exercise area had to be kept clear for different activities but I also wanted to make this space interesting.

The idea behind the design of this ceiling was developed when I was brainstorming on the floor plan trying to connect functions around the space.

During the process, I realized I could create a sense of movement and connectivity through the design of the ceiling. So I developed it further and used it for the ceiling design.

To accommodate more niches for Aquaponic gardening, multiple levels have been created.

But it had to be designed while considering the 4 existing beams and ensuring it does not obstruct any passage.

After creating multiple options, one in particular was selected which not only solved the problem but also created a strong connection between the two floors.

THE LIGHTING DESIGN

Lighting designing is a well-planned and calculated method of providing a lighting solution for a project. Daylight is beneficial for almost every project but it is very important to control it to avoid excess illumination, glares, and heat.

In this retail project, I used Rhino 3D and ClimateStudio programs to generate the daylight simulation and collect important data to identify the potential issues related to lighting and solve them by strategically placing the skylight and selecting the right lighting fixtures accordingly.

Lighting fixtures were selected as per the specifications and their placements were also finalized after achieving suitable LUX levels by using their IES data files and Polar maps in the project model.

Annual Sunlight Exposure ASE

The annual exposure has also increased from 10.7% to 15.2%

Average LUX levels

Avg. LUX levels have drastically increased from 1137 to 2266 and nowmeet the LUX requirements from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m.

*Daylight turned off, LUX from luminaires only.

THE CONSTRUCTION DRAWINGS

In this hospitality project, my team and I were responsible for generating the submittal set for approval and making the required changes per the feedback.

Some of my tasks were to design the layout and accommodate as many suites as possible on each floor, planning parking spaces, cafes, and egresses.

In this project, I spent most of my time on Revit working on floor plans and elevations and completing all the required tasks to get the submittal set approved.

I was also responsible to make sure that the project is following all the city guidelines and restrictions like setbacks, dimensions of openings on facade, and color selections.
