Head Teacher: M.R.Tremmel Gullane Primary School Muirfield Terrace Gullane EH31 2HL Tel/Fax: 01620 843455 gullane.ps@gullane.elcschool.org.uk http://edubuzz.org/blogs/gullane Dear Parents/Carers I would like to thank you for your kind messages and notes following my letter on Monday past. I really do appreciate them. I have very mixed feelings at the moment but I’m sure I will get used to the idea soon! There will be a process taken forward by officers in East Lothian Council to work towards an appointment of a new head teacher for Gullane Primary and this process will include the members of the Parent Council. P5/6/7 Expressive Arts Project I will pull together all the information parents of these classes will need and ensure that you have this when we return after the break. There are many details about times and evening finishes. The initial rehearsal went really well and the music sounds fantastic. School Uniform We are at a point where we can’t carry a great deal of stock and we are unable to order as we go. The school office will put out a uniform order request after the break and this order will be for August 2018. We would like to get this ordered and into the school prior to the break if possible. If you have a uniform request it may not be possible to action quickly. There are many ‘big’ tasks to be undertaken in the summer term and the office bear the brunt of this. Thank you in anticipation. Attendance I review the attendance of each pupil twice per term. I look at the overall attendance for the classes and the whole school. Generally, most pupils attend well and if they are not here the reasons are mostly illness which is unavoidable-best they get well and keep germs away.

Over the course of a school week, I am surprised to see so many children arrive well after the bell and coming in the front door as late as 9am – a full fifteen minutes after class starts. Being on time is a life skill and it is important. It is imperative that you call school if your child is not going to be able to attend – as early as possible and leave a message. If your child is late then we must know what the lunch choice is by 9am as the order goes to the kitchen. If your child has an appointment and they will be late in and they wish a school lunch then you must let us know by 9am too. Thank you.

PTA Karaoke Night-28th April 2018 The PTA Karaoke Night will now be in the Village Hall NOT the Golf Inn as previously advertised. It’ll be BYOB (some drinks on sale). Still 28 April. Get ticket orders in ASAP! Thank you. Clare Jones. PTA Chair Consultation on School Session Dates. Message from ELC. Please can you arrange to advise your parents/staff/parent councils and pupils, prior to the schools closing for the Easter break, through your normal communication channels, that the consultation on School Session Dates for 2019/2020 will be open on the Council’s Consultation Hub from Tuesday 27 March 2018 until Friday 4 May 2018. The consultation on the draft school session dates for 2019/2020 is to seek stakeholder views. Our neighbouring authorities, City of Edinburgh Council and Midlothian Council have set, or are in the process of setting, their session dates and these dates are available on the respective websites. The East Lothian Council draft dates for 2019/2020 have taken cognises of our neighbouring authority dates and very much align with City of Edinburgh Council dates. A copy of the draft dates are attached. The link to the consultation hub is – https://eastlothianconsultations.co.uk/

Important Training Session to be held in Gullane Primary Dear Parents and Carers, We’re here to help you keep your child safe online O2 and the NSPCC have joined forces on a mission to help all children and their families in the UK stay safe online. Together, they’re offering useful tools, support and guidance to help parents and carers have frequent conversations with their children about their online lives. Our free online safety workshop for parents and carers We would like to invite all parents, carers or family members to a free online safety workshop at Gullane Primary on Thursday the 26th April from 9.30-10.30am. The content covered in the workshops is aimed at adults. Parents with children are advised to arrange childcare if possible. The hour-long workshop will help parents, carers and other adults understand their child’s online world, build confidence to have those important conversations that can help keep children safe online and help you know where to go for help and advice. “After coming to this workshop today, I realise the importance of having conversations with my child rather than avoid the subject. I didn’t know there were things I could do to make it better, I’m so glad I came to this workshop. I will definitely be calling the helpline or going into store to get some help, thank you.” – Parent who attended the workshop
