2017 Head Teacher: M.R.Tremmel Gullane Primary School Muirfield Terrace Gullane EH31 2HL Tel: 01620 843455 gullane.ps@gullane.elcschool.org.uk http://edubuzz.org/blogs/gullane Dear Parents/Carers It is hard to believe that 2017 is drawing to a close and almost half of a school session has gone. I hope that you will all be able to enjoy some family time over the break and factor in some time to relax if that’s at all possible. The Christmas Concerts were superbly well supported and we all felt that they had gone well. The huge amount of work that each teacher and each child put in was evident on the night and sparkling performances were the order of the day. No homework in the last week as we know the children have a lot on outside school. Please remember that we have Christmas Lunch in school on Thursday 14th December. Please do not send in any money as all lunches have been prepaid. P1-3 do not pay but have ordered! Church Service Thursday 21st December at 9.45am in Gullane Parish Church You are very welcome to join us and P6 will be leading the service with Rev. B. Hilsley welcoming us all to his church. For our visit to church we ask that the children contribute to a silver collection and the money will be gifted to the church for heating and lighting. The teaching staff will collect the coins before setting off and place in the offering plate on arrival.

Radio Forth Came to Gullane Primary! After 10 years of applying to be on this Forth One feature, Boogie, Arlene and Marty finally came to Gullane to record the children singing! I was the most excited by the way! The team were so kind and so lovely with the children and we loved having them. Gullane Primary will be featured on Thursday 21st December 2017 around 7.30am on Forth One. The producer has sent the following information:-

Your schools Christmas carol will be broadcast on Forth 1’s ‘Boogie in the Morning’ just after 7:30am. You can listen to Forth 1 on 97.3, 97.6 and 102.2 FM and Digital Radio. You can also listen online at forth1.com/listen or download the Radio Forth App for your smartphone or tablet. If you missed it you can also listen again on our website at forth1.com/carols. The carol will be available the day after broadcast. Boogie, Arlene and Marty are very much looking forward to having your school’s carol broadcast on Forth 1. Message from the PTA The PTA would like to say a huge thank you to all our families for their fantastic support so far this session. The hampers were again a huge success and the calendars are selling well. £5.50 each. Please contact the PTA if you wish a calendar and haven’t ordered one.

Crazy Creation Day Thursday 14th December 2017 The children in P5 have asked the children of Gullane Primary to come up with a Crazy Creation for the day. The donations were to be £1 or whatever families felt they could manage with all proceeds going to Save the Children and Cancer Research. Thank you for taking this enterprise forward P5. Well done! Outing to the Lyceum on Tuesday 19th December 2017 P3-7. It has been a very long time since the school went to the theatre together and we hope that this is a lovely experience for them all. I know many of our families do go to events such as this and that is why I only book something like this every now and again. We mainly stay in school and have a professional company visit us. Morning Nursery and P1-2 classes will have an entertainer come in to Gullane Primary on the same day and information has been attached to this letter regarding this. We are going to see a production of Arabian Nights at the Royal Lyceum. The coaches leave school at 8.45 on the button – all children need to be in school at 8.30am. Staff will take a register and board the coaches. We can’t wait for any latecomers so an early night! We must leave on time as traffic and such like will be heavy. And we will return to school by around 1-1.30pm approximately. The children must be in school uniform and bring a snack and non-fizzy drink for the interval. They will require a packed lunch unless they have already pre ordered a school packed lunch – this was all on the form that was sent out some time ago. I think they will have a lovely day and it will be a different experience all round. Brass Instruction Mr Robb is absent currently due to a close family bereavement. Along with no instruction we will not be welcoming the NBHS Brass Band this year which is sad but understandable.

Milk Money If you have not already paid for this it is due in by no later than the 19th December 2017. The BBC work with P5 and P1 children The school was contacted by the BBC inviting us to create an animated story for their online programmes. The P1 class welcomed a storyteller into the class and the focus was around a beach and the P1 children did not disappoint! Their tale of the Fruity Pirates was wonderful! A team from the BBC then visited the P5 class and the children in Mrs Gordon’s class turned the story into an animated film using the story Mrs Cooper’s class constructed. The results are super, just super. The film was shown to the whole school at an assembly time and they all loved seeing their work on the big screen. There are times when offers from various agencies come in and these opportunities are too good to turn down. The children gain an insight into such a wide variety of fields and have great fun in their learning. The film is available to watch by going to bbc.co.uk LAB section.
