This section of Wilkinson Blvd was identified as a corridor of opportunity. Further analysis of the area was done using ArcGis including the existing land uses. Walkability maps were also done to understand the current connectivity of the site and understand areas that need improvement.

WILKINSON BLVD ANALYSIS

The study was a partnership between UNC Charlotte Urban Design program and the city of Charlotte Urban Design Center.

Maps were developed using ArcGIS Pro.

The master plan is intended to follow guidelines established in the City of Charlotte 2040 Comprehensive Plan. The site is located north of Uptown Charlotte between N. Tryon and Graham St. Components of the master plan include multi-Family housing, commercial, Retail, Office, and mix-used buildings. Green infrastructure includes a greenway that traverses the entire site. A rain garden and various other components are part of the sustainability goals of the project.

The master plan was a partnership between the City of Charlotte Urban Design Center and the Urban Design program at UNC Charlotte.

The site plan on the right was developed using Rhinoceros and Adobe Photoshop. The 3D site plan above was developed using Rhinoceros. Renderings were done using Lumion.

The Lockwood Layout focuses on increasing affordable housing options, protecting and improving the natural environment, and fostering an inclusive community. The renderings above were created using Lumion and illustrate a proposed Mobility Hub with green infrastructure elements.

TACTICAL URBANISM

BELMONT NEIGHBORHOOD

The mural is one of the more significant aspects of the project. We wanted to design a mural that acknowledged the history of the site but also creates a sense of identity that reflects the variety of residents that now live there. With the use of color and symbolism, we hope to create a space that residents can feel proud of and people of all ages would enjoy.

Progams used in the design included Rhino, Illustrator, and Photoshop.
