Woolston Rovers ‘A’ bounced back to winning ways with a brilliant home victory over previously unbeaten league leaders Roose Pioneers in the NWML Division Two at the Limestone Construction Field, Monk Sports Club.

Rovers opened the scoring in the very first minute when second row Patryk Mazur broke through the Roose line and raced sixty metres to score. Stand off Craig Lawton converted and then nine minutes later good handling close to the line paved the way for Lawton to power over. Lawton landed the conversion to his own try.

A mistake by Rovers from the restart gifted Roose possession and centre Josh Cohen went over from close range. Stand off Ricky Donaghue converted but then a penalty to Rovers put them deep into the Roose half and slick passing saw the ball reach centre Kyle Cherrett scored on the left. Lawton added the conversion.

Roose then capitalised on a Rovers error from a kick through as centre Rob Sheppard collected the loose ball to score wide out but then just before the half hour mark Mazur broke through once again to claim his second try of the game.

As the game entered the closing stages of the half a penalty for Roose got themselves close to the Rovers line and substitute Dan White crashed over on the right. Donaghue converted and then full back Jordan Ashton stretched out to score on the left. Donaghue added the conversion to make the half time score 22-22.

Rovers moved back in front eight minutes into the second half when a long ball from Lawton found Cherrett who used his strength to go over wide out on the left and they then made sure of the win in the last minute as hooker Jack Hancock went from dummy half to force his way over at the side of the posts. Lawton added the conversion to complete an excellent 32-22 win for his side.

The Man of the Match was awarded to Rovers hooker Jack Hancock. He was very well supported by second row Patryk Mazur and loose forward Sam Wood.
