BY THE PRESIDENT OF INDIA SMT. DROUPADI MURMU ON THE EVE OF REPUBLIC DAY 2024 New Delhi, January 25, 2024

My Dear Fellow Citizens, Namaskar!

My heartiest greetings to all of you on the eve of the 75th Republic Day! My heart is filled with pride when I look back and see how far we have travelled despite adversities. The 75th year of the Republic is truly a historic milestone in the journey of the nation in many ways. This is an especially festive occasion, just as we celebrated the unique greatness and diverse culture of our nation during the Azadi ka Amrit Mahotsav, when we completed 75 years of Independence.

Tomorrow is the day when we celebrate the commencement of the Constitution.

Its Preamble begins with the words “We, the People of India”, highlighting the theme of the document, namely, democracy. In India, democratic system is much older than the concept of western democracy. That is the reason why India is called the “mother of democracy”.

After a long and difficult struggle, on 15th August, 1947, India became free from foreign rule. Yet, the task of framing the principles and processes that would govern the country and unleash its true potential was still a work in progress. The Constituent Assembly spent nearly three years holding detailed discussions on all aspects of governance and produced the great founding document of our nation, the Constitution of India. Today, the nation gratefully remembers the leaders as well as the officials who contributed to the framing of our splendid and inspiring Constitution.

The nation is in the early years of Amrit Kaal, the period leading to the centenary of Independence. This is the time of an epochal transformation. We are given a golden opportunity to take the country to new heights. Contribution from every citizen will be crucial to achieve our goals. For this, I will appeal to all my fellow citizens to abide by our Fundamental Duties enshrined in the Constitution. These duties are essential obligations of every citizen towards making Bharat a developed nation when it completes 100 years of independence. Here, I think of Mahatma Gandhi who had rightly said, “No people have risen who thought only of rights. Only those did so who thought of duties.”

My Dear Fellow Citizens, Republic Day is an occasion to recall our foundational values and principles.

When we contemplate any one of them, we are naturally guided to the rest.

Democracy implies diversity of culture, beliefs and practices. Celebrating diversity implies equality, which is upheld by justice. Freedom is what makes it all possible.

The totality of these values and principles is what makes us Indian. Guided by the sagacity of Dr. B. R. Ambedkar, the spirit of the Constitution, imbued with these foundational values and principles, has led us invariably on the path of social justice to put an end to all kinds of discrimination.

I would like to mention here that the celebration of the birth centenary of a tireless champion of social justice, Shri Karpoori Thakur Ji, concluded yesterday. Karpoori Ji was one of the greatest advocates of backward classes who dedicated his life for their welfare. His life was a message. I pay my tribute to Karpoori Ji for enriching public life through his contributions.

The ethos of our Republic brings together more than 1.4 billion of us to live as one family. For this largest family in the world, co-existence is not an imposition of geography but a source of happiness, which finds expression in our Republic Day celebrations.

Earlier this week, we witnessed the historic consecration ceremony of the idol of Prabhu Shri Ram in the glorious new temple constructed at His birthplace in Ayodhya. When this event will be seen in the wider perspective, the future historians will consider it a landmark in India’s continued re-discovery of its civilisational heritage. The construction of the temple commenced after the due judicial process and the decision of the highest court of the land. Now it stands as a grand edifice, giving a befitting expression not only of people’s faith but also as a testament to people’s enormous trust in judicial process.

My Dear Fellow Citizens, Our National festivals are momentous occasions when we together look back and look ahead. If we look at the year since the last Republic Day, there is much to be pleased about. The successful organising of the Group of 20 Summit in the capital, under India’s presidency, was an unprecedented achievement. What was all the more noteworthy was the way the people were involved in the G20 events.

The ideas and inputs travelled not downwards from the top but upwards from the bottom. The magnificent event provided lessons for all in making citizens participants in strategic and diplomatic matters that are, in the final analysis, going

to shape their own future. The G20 Summit also boosted India’s emergence as the voice of the Global South, adding a necessary element to the international discourse.

We also progressed further towards the ideal of gender equality, when the Parliament passed the historic Women’s Reservation Bill. I believe the Nari Shakti Vandan Adhiniyam will prove to be a revolutionary tool of women’s empowerment.

It will also go a long way in improving the processes of our governance. When more women will be involved in the matters of collective importance, our administrative priorities will be more in tune with the needs of the masses.

It was also the year when India went to the moon, becoming the first to land on the lunar south pole region. After Chandrayaan-3, the Indian Space Research Organisation rolled out a solar mission as well. Recently, Aditya L1 was successfully put into the halo orbit. We began the new year with the launch of our first X-ray Polarimeter Satellite called XPoSat which will study space mysteries like black holes. Many more space missions are planned in the current calendar year. I am happy to add that India’s space journey is slated to cross new milestones. Preparations for the Gaganyaan mission, our first human spaceflight programme, are proceeding smoothly. We have always been proud of our scientists and technology experts, but now they are aiming far higher than before and delivering too. India’s space programme is aimed at expanding and deepening the role of science and technology for the benefit of the entire humanity. The amount of enthusiasm we see in the country for the ISRO’s initiatives is heartening. New achievements in this area have fired the imagination of the young generation. More children, I am sure, will become interested in science and cultivate a scientific temper. It will also inspire more youngsters, especially young women, to pursue careers in science and technology.

My Dear Fellow Citizens, India is moving ahead with confidence, which comes from and is also reflected by the robust health of the economy. Our GDP growth rate has remained the highest among major economies in recent years, and we have all reasons to believe that this extraordinary performance will continue in the year 2024 and beyond. What I find particularly noteworthy is that the same farsighted planning that fuels the economy has also given a push to the welfare drive to make the development inclusive in every sense of the term. The government had increased the scope of schemes to provide free food to the weaker sections of society during the pandemic days. These measures were later continued to extend a helping hand to the vulnerable population to come out of that crisis. Expanding the scope of that initiative, the government has decided to provide free food grains to over 81

crore people for five years. This may be the biggest welfare initiative of its kind in history.

Moreover, there have been a number of mission-mode schemes to increase the ease of living for all citizens. From the availability of safe and adequate drinking water at home to the security of having one’s own home, these are basic minimum requirements, not privileges. These matters are beyond any political or economic ideology and must be seen from a humanitarian perspective. The government has not only expanded and enhanced the welfare schemes, but it has also redefined the idea of welfare itself. It will be a proud day for us all when India becomes one of those few countries where homelessness is a rarity. Similarly, the National Education Policy gives adequate thrust to bridge the digital divide and create a uniform educational structure for the benefit of the underprivileged students. The expanding insurance cover of the Ayushman Bharat scheme aims to bring together all beneficiaries under its umbrella and provides a great reassurance to the poor and the vulnerable.

Our sportspersons have raised India’s profile on the international stage. In the Asian Games held last year, we made history with a record-breaking tally of 107 medals, and we won 111 medals in Asian Para Games. We are glad to see that women are making very impressive contribution to our medal tally. Our sportsstars have inspired children to take up diverse sports and games, helping them boost their self-confidence. I am sure that our sportspersons, who are infused with this new confidence, will deliver an improved performance in the upcoming Paris Olympics.

Dear Fellow Citizens, In recent times, many conflicts have emerged around the world and several parts of it have been suffering from violence. When each of the two conflicting sides believes that it is right and the other is wrong, the way out should be found in the light of reason. Unfortunately, instead of reason, fears and prejudices have fueled passions, leading to relentless violence. There have been a series of humanitarian tragedies on a large scale, and we feel aggrieved over the human suffering. In such times, we recall Lord Buddha’s words: न हि वेरेन वेराहन, सम्मन्तीध कुदाचनम् अवेरेन च सम्मन्तन्त, एस धम्मो सनन्तनो It means: “Not at any time are enmities appeased here through enmity but they are appeased through non-enmity. This is the eternal law.”

From Vardhaman Mahavir and Samrat Ashok to the Father of the Nation, Mahatma Gandhi, India has time and again shown that non-violence is not just an ideal that may be difficult to achieve but it is a distinct possibility – in fact, it is a lived reality for many. Let us hope that the regions embroiled in conflicts will find a peaceful way to resolve conflicts and bring about peace.

India’s ancient wisdom can also help the world find a way out of the global environmental crisis. I am glad to see India at the forefront of promoting renewable sources of energy and taking a leadership position in global climate action. India has launched the ‘LiFE Movement’ for adoption of environment-conscious lifestyle. The global community has appreciated our country’s emphasis on individual behaviour-change for dealing with the issues of climate change. People everywhere can and must contribute by bringing their lifestyle in tune with Mother Nature. That will not only help save the planet for the generations to come but will also enhance the quality of life.

Dear Fellow Citizens, The period of Amrit Kaal is also going to be the period of unprecedented technological changes. Technological advances like Artificial Intelligence and machine learning have moved from headlines into our daily lives at a breathtaking speed. There are numerous areas of concern in the foreseeable future, but there are also exciting opportunities ahead, especially for the youth. They are exploring new frontiers. We need to do all we can to remove hurdles from their path and let them unleash their full potential. What they want is equality of opportunity. What they want is not the same old rhetoric of equality, but the realisation of our cherished ideal of equality.

It is, after all, their confidence that is building the India of tomorrow. Moreover, the mind of the youth is shaped by teachers, who are the real architects of the nation’s future. I would also like to make a thankful mention of our farmers and labourers who toil silently and make a mighty contribution to creating a better future for the nation. On the eve of this auspicious occasion, India also gratefully salutes the members of our Armed Forces, Police and Para-military Forces, without whose valour and vigil we would not have scaled the great heights we have.

Before I conclude, let me offer my greetings to the members of the judiciary and civil services. My Republic Day greetings to the officials of India’s missions abroad and the diaspora community! Let us all dedicate ourselves to serve the nation and fellow citizens in every way we can. My best wishes to all of you in this endeavour.

मेरे प्यारे दे शवाहसयो, नमस्कार! पचित्तरवें गणतंत्र हदवस की पूवव संध्या पर मैं आप सभी को िाहदव क शुभकामनाएं दे ती हं । जब मैं पीछे मुड़कर यि दे खती हं हक हवपरीत पररन्तथिहतयों के बावजूद िमने हकतनी लंबी यात्रा की िै , तब मेरा हृदय गवव से भर जाता िै । िमारे गणतंत्र का पचित्तरवां वर्व, कई अिों में, दे श की यात्रा में एक ऐहतिाहसक पड़ाव िै । यि उत्सव मनाने का हवशेर् अवसर िै , जैसे िमने, स्वाधीनता के 75 वर्व पूरे िोने पर, ‘आजादी का अमृत मिोत्सव’ के दौरान अपने दे श की अतुलनीय मिानता और हवहवधतापूणव संस्कृहत का उत्सव मनाया िा। कल के हदन िम संहवधान के प्रारं भ का उत्सव मनाएं गे। संहवधान की प्रस्तावना "िम, भारत के लोग", इन शब्ों से शुरू िोती िै । ये शब्, िमारे संहवधान के मूल भाव अिाव त् लोकतंत्र को रे खां हकत करते िैं । भारत की लोकतां हत्रक व्यवथिा, लोकतंत्र की पहिमी अवधारणा से किीं अहधक प्राचीन िै । इसीहलए भारत को "लोकतंत्र की जननी" किा जाता िै । एक लंबे और कहिन संघर्व के बाद 15 अगस्त, 1947 को िमारा दे श हवदे शी शासन से मुक्त िो गया। लेहकन, उस समय भी, दे श में सुशासन तिा दे शवाहसयों में हनहित क्षमताओं और प्रहतभाओं को उन्मुक्त हवस्तार दे ने के हलए, उपयुक्त मूलभूत हसद्ां तों और प्रहियाओं को स्वरूप प्रदान करने का कायव चल िी रिा िा। संहवधान सभा ने सुशासन के सभी पिलुओं पर लगभग तीन वर्व तक हवस्तृत चचाव की और िमारे राष्ट्र के मिान आधारभूत ग्रंि, यानी भारत के संहवधान की रचना की। आज के हदन िम सब दे शवासी उन दू रदशी जन-नायकों और अहधकाररयों का कृतज्ञता-पूववक स्मरण करते िैं हजन्ोंने िमारे भव्य और प्रेरक संहवधान के हनमाव ण में अमूल्य योगदान हदया िा। िमारा दे श स्वतंत्रता की शताब्ी की ओर बढ़ते हुए अमृत काल के प्रारं हभक दौर से गुजर रिा िै । यि एक युगां तरकारी पररवतवन का कालखंड िै। िमें अपने दे श को नई ऊंचाइयों तक ले जाने का सुनिरा अवसर हमला िै । िमारे लक्ष्ों को प्राप्त करने के हलए प्रत्येक नागररक का योगदान, मित्वपूणव िोगा। इसके हलए मैं सभी दे शवाहसयों से संहवधान में हनहित िमारे मूल कतवव्यों का पालन करने का अनुरोध करू ं गी। ये कतवव्य, आजादी के 100 वर्व पूरे िोने तक भारत को एक हवकहसत राष्ट्र बनाने की हदशा में, प्रत्येक नागररक के आवश्यक दाहयत्व िैं । इस संदभव में मुझे मिात्मा गां धी का स्मरण िोता िै । बापू ने िीक िी किा िा, “हजसने केवल अहधकारों को चािा िै , ऐसी कोई भी

प्रजा उन्नहत निीं कर सकी िै । केवल विी प्रजा उन्नहत कर सकी िै हजसने कतवव्य का धाहमवक रूप से पालन हकया िै ।” मेरे प्यारे दे शवाहसयो, गणतंत्र हदवस, िमारे आधारभूत मूल्यों और हसद्ां तों को स्मरण करने का एक मित्वपूणव अवसर िै । जब िम, उनमें से हकसी एक बुहनयादी हसद्ान्त पर हचंतन करते िैं , तो स्वाभाहवक रूप से अन्य सभी हसद्ां तों पर भी िमारा ध्यान जाता िै । संस्कृहत, मान्यताओं और परम्पराओं की हवहवधता, िमारे लोकतंत्र का अंतहनवहित आयाम िै । िमारी हवहवधता का यि उत्सव, समता पर आधाररत िै हजसे न्याय द्वारा संरहक्षत हकया जाता िै । यि सब, स्वतंत्रता के वातावरण में िी संभव िो पाता िै । इन मूल्यों और हसद्ां तों की समग्रता िी िमारी भारतीयता का आधार िै । डॉक्टर बी. आर. आं बेडकर के प्रबुद् मागवदशवन में प्रवाहित, इन मूलभूत जीवन-मूल्यों और हसद्ां तों में रची-बसी संहवधान की भावधारा ने , सभी प्रकार के भेदभाव को समाप्त करने के हलए सामाहजक न्याय के मागव पर िमें अहडग बनाए रखा िै । मैं यि उल्लेख करना चाहं गी हक सामाहजक न्याय के हलए अनवरत युद्रत रिे , श्री कपूवरी िाकुर जी की जन्म शताब्ी का उत्सव कल िी संपन्न हुआ िै । कपूवरी जी हपछड़े वगों के सबसे मिान पक्षकारों में से एक िे हजन्ोंने अपना सारा जीवन उनके कल्याण के हलए समहपवत कर हदया िा। उनका जीवन एक संदेश िा। अपने योगदान से साववजहनक जीवन को समृद् बनाने के हलए, मैं कपूवरी जी को अपनी श्रद्ां जहल अहपवत करती हूँ । िमारे गणतंत्र की मूल भावना से एकजुट िोकर 140 करोड़ से अहधक भारतवासी एक कुटुं ब के रूप में रिते िैं। दु हनया के सबसे बड़े इस कुटुं ब के हलए, सि-अन्तस्तत्व की भावना, भूगोल द्वारा िोपा गया बोझ निीं िै , बन्ति सामूहिक उल्लास का सिज स्रोत िै , जो िमारे गणतंत्र हदवस के उत्सव में अहभव्यक्त िोता िै । इस सप्ताि के आरं भ में िम सबने अयोध्या में प्रभु श्रीराम के जन्मथिान पर हनहमवत भव्य मंहदर में थिाहपत मूहतव की प्राण प्रहतष्ठा का ऐहतिाहसक समारोि दे खा। भहवष्य में जब इस घटना को व्यापक पररप्रेक्ष् में दे खा जाएगा, तब इहतिासकार, भारत द्वारा अपनी सभ्यतागत हवरासत की हनरं तर खोज में युगां तरकारी आयोजन के रूप में इसका हववेचन करें गे। उहचत न्याहयक प्रहिया और दे श के उच्चतम न्यायालय के हनणवय के बाद, मंहदर का हनमाव ण कायव आरं भ हुआ। अब यि एक भव्य संरचना के रूप में शोभायमान िै । यि मंहदर न केवल जन-जन की आथिा को व्यक्त करता िै बन्ति न्याहयक प्रहिया में िमारे दे शवाहसयों की अगाध आथिा का प्रमाण भी िै । मेरे प्यारे दे शवाहसयो, िमारे राष्ट्रीय त्योिार ऐसे मित्वपूणव अवसर िोते िैं जब िम अतीत पर भी दृहष्ट्पात करते िैं और भहवष्य की ओर भी दे खते िैं । हपछले गणतंत्र हदवस के बाद के एक वर्व पर नजर डालें तो िमें बहुत प्रसन्नता िोती िै । भारत की अध्यक्षता में हदल्ली में G20 हशखर सम्मेलन का सफल आयोजन एक

अभूतपूवव उपलन्ति िी। G20 से जुड़े आयोजनों में जन-सामान्य की भागीदारी हवशेर् रूप से उल्लेखनीय िै । इन आयोजनों में हवचारों और सुझावों का प्रवाि ऊपर से नीचे की ओर निीं बन्ति नीचे से ऊपर की ओर िा। उस भव्य आयोजन से यि सीख भी हमली िै हक सामान्य नागररकों को भी ऐसे गिन तिा अंतर-राष्ट्रीय मित्व के मुद्दे में भागीदार बनाया जा सकता िै हजसका प्रभाव अंततः उनके अपने भहवष्य पर पड़ता िै । G20 हशखर सम्मेलन के माध्यम से Global South की आवाज के रूप में भारत के अभ्युदय को भी बढ़ावा हमला, हजससे अंतर-राष्ट्रीय संवाद की प्रहिया में एक आवश्यक तत्व का समावेश हुआ। जब संसद ने ऐहतिाहसक महिला आरक्षण हवधेयक पाररत हकया तो िमारा दे श, स्त्री-पुरुर् समानता के आदशव की ओर आगे बढ़ा। मेरा मानना िै हक ‘नारी शन्तक्त वंदन अहधहनयम’, महिला सशक्तीकरण का एक िां हतकारी माध्यम हसद् िोगा। इससे िमारे शासन की प्रहियाओं को बेितर बनाने में भी बहुत सिायता हमलेगी। जब सामूहिक मित्व के मुद्दों पर महिलाओं की भागीदारी बढ़े गी, तब िमारी प्रशासहनक प्रािहमकताओं का जनता की आवश्यकताओं के साि बेितर सामंजस्य बनेगा। इसी अवहध में भारत, चंद्रमा के दहक्षणी ध्रुव के क्षेत्र पर उतरने वाला पिला दे श बना। चंद्रयान-3 के बाद ISRO ने एक सौर हमशन भी शुरू हकया। िाल िी में आहदत्य L1 को सफलतापूववक ‘Halo Orbit’ में थिाहपत हकया गया िै । भारत ने अपने पिले एक्स-रे Polarimeter Satellite, हजसे एक्सपोसैट किा जाता िै , के प्रक्षेपण के साि नए साल की शुरुआत की िै । यि सैटेलाइट, अंतररक्ष के ‘ब्लैक िोल’ जैसे रिस्यों का अध्ययन करे गा। वर्व 2024 के दौरान अन्य कई अंतररक्ष अहभयानों की योजना बनाई गई िै । यि प्रसन्नता का हवर्य िै हक भारत की अंतररक्ष यात्रा में अनेक नई उपलन्तियां िाहसल की जाने वाली िैं । िमारे प्रिम मानव अंतररक्ष उड़ान कायविम, ‘गगनयान हमशन’ की तैयारी सुचारु रूप से आगे बढ़ रिी िै । िमें अपने वैज्ञाहनकों और प्रौद्योहगकी हवशेर्ज्ञों पर सदै व गवव रिा िै , लेहकन अब ये पिले से किीं अहधक ऊंचे लक्ष् तय कर रिे िैं और उनके अनुरूप पररणाम भी िाहसल कर रिे िैं । भारत के अंतररक्ष कायविम का उद्दे श्य, संपूणव मानवता के कल्याण के हलए, हवज्ञान और प्रौद्योहगकी की भूहमका को और अहधक हवस्तार तिा गिराई प्रदान करना िै । ISRO के कायविम के प्रहत दे शवाहसयों में जो उत्साि हदखाई दे ता िै उससे नई आशाओं का संचार िो रिा िै । अन्तररक्ष हवज्ञान के क्षेत्र में नई उपलन्तियों ने, युवा पीढ़ी की कल्पना शन्तक्त को नए पंख हदए िैं । मुझे हवश्वास िै हक िमारे बच्चों और युवाओं में, बड़े पैमाने पर, हवज्ञान के प्रहत रुझान बढ़े गा तिा उनमें वैज्ञाहनक दृहष्ट्कोण हवकहसत िोगा। अन्तररक्ष हवज्ञान की इन उपलन्तियों से युवाओं, हवशेर्कर युवा महिलाओं को यि प्रेरणा हमलेगी हक वे, हवज्ञान और प्रौद्योहगकी को अपना कायवक्षेत्र बनाएं । मेरे प्यारे दे शवाहसयो, आज का भारत, आत्महवश्वास के साि आगे बढ़ रिा िै । सुदृढ़ और स्वथि अिवव्यवथिा इस आत्महवश्वास का कारण भी िै और पररणाम भी। िाल के वर्ों में, सकल घरे लू उत्पाद की िमारी

वृन्तद् दर, प्रमुख अिवव्यवथिाओं में सबसे अहधक रिी िै । िोस आकलन के आधार पर िमें पूरा हवश्वास िै हक यि असाधारण प्रदशवन, वर्व 2024 और उसके बाद भी जारी रिे गा। यि बात मुझे हवशेर् रूप से उल्लेखनीय लगती िै हक हजस दू रगामी योजना-दृहष्ट् से अिवव्यवथिा को गहत प्राप्त हुई िै , उसी के तित हवकास को िर दृहष्ट् से समावेशी बनाने के हलए सुहवचाररत जन कल्याण अहभयानों को भी बढ़ावा हदया गया िै । मिामारी के हदनों में, समाज के कमजोर वगों को मुफ्त खाद्यान्न उपलि कराने के हलए लागू योजनाओं का दायरा, सरकार ने बढ़ा हदया िा। बाद में, कमजोर वगों की आबादी को संकट से उबरने में सिायता प्रदान करने िे तु इन कल्याणकारी योजनाओं को जारी रखा गया। इस पिल को और अहधक हवस्तार दे ते हुए, सरकार ने 81 करोड़ से अहधक लोगों को अगले पां च साल तक मुफ्त खाद्यान्न उपलि कराने का हनणवय हलया िै । संभवत:, इहतिास में यि अपनी तरि का सबसे बड़ा जन-कल्याण कायविम िै। साि िी, सभी नागररकों के जीवन-यापन को सुगम बनाने के हलए अनेक समयबद् योजनाएं भी कायाव न्तित की जा रिी िैं । घर में सुरहक्षत और पयाव प्त पेयजल की उपलिता से लेकर अपना घर िोने के सुरक्षा-जनक अनुभव तक, ये सभी बुहनयादी न्यूनतम आवश्यकताएं िैं , न हक हवशेर् सुहवधाएं । ये मुद्दे, हकसी भी राजनीहतक या आहिवक हवचारधारा से परे िैं और इन्ें मानवीय दृहष्ट्कोण से िी दे खा जाना चाहिए। सरकार ने, केवल जन-कल्याण योजनाओं का हवस्तार और संवधवन िी निीं हकया िै , अहपतु जन-कल्याण की अवधारणा को भी नया अिव प्रदान हकया िै । िम सभी उस हदन गवव का अनुभव करें गे जब भारत ऐसे कुछ दे शों में शाहमल िो जाएगा जिां शायद िी कोई बेघर िो। समावेशी कल्याण की इसी सोच के साि ‘राष्ट्रीय हशक्षा नीहत’ में हडहजटल हवभाजन को पाटने और वंहचत वगों के हवद्याहिवयों के हित में, समानता पर आधाररत हशक्षा व्यवथिा के हनमाव ण को समुहचत प्रािहमकता दी जा रिी िै । ‘आयुष्मान भारत योजना’ के हवस्ताररत सुरक्षा कवच के तित सभी लाभाहिवयों को शाहमल करने का लक्ष् िै । इस संरक्षण से गरीब और कमजोर वगों के लोगों में एक बहुत बड़ा हवश्वास जगा िै । िमारे न्तखलाहड़यों ने अंतर-राष्ट्रीय मंचों पर भारत का मान बढ़ाया िै । हपछले साल आयोहजत एहशयाई खेलों में, िमने 107 पदकों के नए कीहतवमान के साि इहतिास रचा और एहशयाई पैरा खेलों में िमने 111 पदक जीते। यि अत्यंत प्रसन्नता की बात िै हक महिलाएं , िमारी पदक-ताहलका में बहुत प्रभावशाली योगदान दे रिी िैं । िमारे श्रेष्ठ न्तखलाहड़यों की सफलता से बच्चों को हवहभन्न खेलों में भाग लेने के हलए प्रेरणा हमली िै , हजससे उनका आत्महवश्वास बहुत बढ़ा िै । मुझे हवश्वास िै हक नए आत्महवश्वास से भरपूर िमारे न्तखलाड़ी, आगामी पेररस ओहलंहपक में और भी अच्छा प्रदशवन करें गे। प्यारे दे शवाहसयो, िाल के दौर में हवश्व में अनेक थिलों पर लड़ाइयां िो रिी िैं और दु हनया के बहुत से हिस्से हिं सा से पीहड़त िैं । जब दो परस्पर हवरोधी पक्षों में से प्रत्येक मानता िै हक केवल उसी की बात सिी िै और दू सरे की बात गलत िै , तो ऐसी न्तथिहत में समाधान-परक तकव के आधार पर िी आगे बढ़ना चाहिए। दु भाव ग्य से, तकव के थिान पर, आपसी भय और पूवाव ग्रिों ने भावावेश को बढ़ावा हदया िै , हजसके

कारण अनवरत हिं सा िो रिी िै । बड़े पैमाने पर मानवीय त्रासहदयों की अनेक दु खद घटनाएं हुई िैं , और िम सब इस मानवीय पीड़ा से अत्यंत व्यहित िैं । ऐसी पररन्तथिहतयों में, िमें भगवान बुद् के सारगहभवत शब्ों का स्मरण िोता िै : न हि वेरेन वेराहन, सम्मन्तीध कुदाचनम् अवेरेन च सम्मन्तन्त, एस धम्मो सनन्तनो इसका भावािव िै : “यिां कभी भी शत्रुता को शत्रुता के माध्यम से शां त निीं हकया जाता िै , बन्ति अ-शत्रुता के माध्यम से शां त हकया जाता िै । यिी शाश्वत हनयम िै ।” वधवमान मिावीर और सम्राट अशोक से लेकर राष्ट्रहपता मिात्मा गां धी तक, भारत ने सदै व एक उदािरण प्रस्तुत हकया िै हक अहिं सा केवल एक आदशव मात्र निीं िै हजसे िाहसल करना कहिन िो, बन्ति यि एक स्पष्ट् संभावना िै । यिी निीं, अहपतु अनेक लोगों के हलए यि एक जीवंत यिािव िै । िम आशा करते िैं हक संघर्ों में उलझे क्षेत्रों में, उन संघर्ों को सुलझाने तिा शां हत थिाहपत करने के मागव खोज हलए जाएं गे। वैहश्वक पयाव वरण संकट से उबरने में भी भारत का प्राचीन ज्ञान, हवश्व-समुदाय का मागवदशवन कर सकता िै । भारत को ऊजाव के नवीकरणीय स्रोतों को बढ़ावा दे ने में अग्रणी योगदान दे ते हुए और Global Climate Action को नेतृत्व प्रदान करते हुए दे खकर मुझे बहुत प्रसन्नता िोती िै । भारत ने, पयाव वरण के प्रहत सचेत जीवन-शैली अपनाने के हलए, ‘LiFE Movement’ शुरू हकया िै । िमारे दे श में जलवायु पररवतवन के मुद्दे का सामना करने में व्यन्तक्तगत व्यविार-पररवतवन को प्रािहमकता दी जा रिी िै तिा हवश्व समुदाय द्वारा इसकी सरािना की जा रिी िै । िर थिान के हनवासी अपनी जीवन-शैली को प्रकृहत के अनुरूप ढालकर अपना योगदान दे सकते िैं और उन्ें ऐसा करना िी चाहिए। इससे, न केवल भावी पीहढ़यों के हलए पृथ्वी का संरक्षण करने में सिायता हमलेगी बन्ति, जीवन की गुणवत्ता भी बढ़े गी। प्यारे दे शवाहसयो, िमारी स्वाधीनता के सौ वर्व पूरे िोने तक की, अमृत काल की अवहध के दौरान अभूतपूवव तकनीकी पररवतवन भी िोने जा रिे िैं । Artificial Intelligence और Machine Learning जैसे तकनीकी बदलाव, असाधारण गहत के साि, सुन्तखवयों से बािर आकर, िमारे दै हनक जीवन का अंग बन गए िैं । कई क्षेत्रों में भहवष्य से जुड़ी आशंकाएं हचंहतत करती िैं , लेहकन अनेक उत्साि-जनक अवसर भी हदखाई दे ते िैं , हवशेर्कर युवाओं के हलए। िमारे युवा, वतवमान की सीमाओं से परे जाकर नई संभावनाएं तलाश रिे िैं । उनके मागव से बाधाओं को दू र करने और उन्ें अपनी पूरी क्षमता का उपयोग करने की सुहवधा प्रदान करने के हलए िमें िर संभव प्रयास करना िै । िमारी युवा पीढ़ी चािती िै हक सभी को अवसर की समानता प्राप्त िो। वे समानता से जुड़े पुराने शब्जाल निीं चािते िैं बन्ति, समानता के िमारे अमूल्य आदशव का यिािव रूप दे खना चािते िैं ।

वास्तव में, िमारे युवाओं के आत्महवश्वास के बल पर िी भावी भारत का हनमाव ण िो रिा िै । युवाओं के मनो-मन्तस्तष्क को सं वारने का कायव िमारे हशक्षक-गण करते िैं जो सिी अिों में राष्ट्र का भहवष्य बनाते िैं । मैं अपने उन हकसानों और मजदू र भाई-बिनों के प्रहत आभार व्यक्त करती हं जो, चुपचाप मेिनत करते िैं तिा दे श के भहवष्य को बेितर बनाने में बहुत बड़ा योगदान दे ते िैं। गणतन्त्र हदवस के पावन अवसर की पूवव संध्या पर, सभी दे शवासी िमारे सशस्त्र बलों, पुहलस और अधव-सैन्य बलों का भी कृतज्ञता-पूववक अहभनंदन करते िैं । उनकी बिादु री और सतकवता के हबना, िम उन प्रभावशाली उपलन्तियों को प्राप्त निीं कर सकते िे जो िमने िाहसल कर ली िैं । अपनी वाणी को हवराम दे ने से पिले, मैं न्यायपाहलका और हसहवल सेवाओं के सदस्यों को भी शुभकामनाएं दे ना चािती हं । हवदे शों में हनयुक्त भारतीय हमशनों के अहधकाररयों और प्रवासी भारतीय समुदाय के लोगों को मैं गणतन्त्र हदवस की बधाई दे ती हं । आइए, िम सब यिाशन्तक्त राष्ट्र और दे शवाहसयों की सेवा में स्वयं को समहपवत करने का संकल्प करें । इस शुभ संकल्प को हसद् करने के प्रयास िे तु आप सभी को मेरी िाहदव क शुभकामनाएं ! धन्यवाद! जय हिन्द! जय भारत!
