ity. No robot was able to successfully complete the entire course, demonstrating the tremendous difficulty in programming robots to operate in realworld environments. "The successes in robotics to date have been so limited...because of the • errors in sensing," said Tech team advisor Dr. Ron Arkin, a professor in the College of Computing. "Like humans, robots need sensory feedback even 1 when they have a map." The Tech robot was equipped with a camera, sonar and infrared range finders. •
