J. E. Yarbrough, '06, Studebaker dealer here for the past 36 years, recently retired. The Yarbrough Motor Company will continue as usual. The franchise has been taken over by Mr. Yarbrough's eldest son, J. E. "Jack," class of '34. Mr. Yarbrough will continue to make his home at 911 Springdale Road, N. E., Atlanta, although much of his time will be devoted to his three cattle farms. Clifford Waterhouse, '08, well known contractors' equipment dealer in Mississippi, died on April 6 in Jackson, Mississippi following a brief illness. A man of wide business and civic repute in Mississippi, Mr. Waterhouse had served on the staffs of Governois Bilbo, Bailey and Wright of the State of Mississippi. He is survived by his wife, two children and three grandchildren. Edward B. Hook, Sr., EE '11, died March 30 in an Atlanta hospital. He was employed by the Federal government as an industrial engineer at the time of his death. Mr. Hook served as lieutenant colonel in the Corps of Engineers during World War II. Surviving are his wife, whose address is 27-13th Street, N. E., Atlanta, two sons, John A. and Edward B., Jr., two brothers and one sister.
Colonel George R. Barker, EE '17, has been named chief of staff of the Third Army at Fort McPherson. Prior to his promotion he was deputy chief of staff, Third Army. Colonel Barker won his commission in the cavalry during World War I and served as chief of staff of the 16th Corps in Central Europe during World War II. George Marshall (Pup) Phillips, '19, Civil Defense Director for Atlanta and a leading Atlanta insurance executive, died unexpectedly on May 1 at his home in Atlanta. "Pup" was one of the stars of the great Tech teams of '16, '17 and '18 and was prominently mentioned for All-American center in '18. He was Atlanta's CD Director in WW II and was called upon to carry out the job again after the start of the Korean crisis. The Atlanta Journal, in an editorial, said of Mr. Phillips. "And now 'Pup' Phillips is suddenly dead. He will be remembered with warmth and gratitude by his fellow citizens. The best memorial they could erect to him would be enthusiastic completion of the civil defense system for which he struggled so long and so ably." He is survived by his wife and one son. R. Houston Jewell, '19, vice president of Crystal Springs Bleachery of Chickamauga, was recently elected president of the Cotton Manufacturers Association of Georgia.

Beacham, '23, formerly Ford Division top sales executive for the Southeastern region, has been appointed Northeastern regional manager with headquarters in New York.

Colonel James W. Smith, CE '31, was recently awarded the Legion of Merit at ceremonies held at the Central Air Defense Force Headquarters, Kansas City, Missouri. The award was for outstanding performance of duties while assigned as Director of Engineering at Headquarters, ADF, Nagoya, Japan. Colonel Smith is presently serving as Director of Installations at CADF, Kansas City, Mo. He was stationed in Japan for two years, and has spent a total of 62 months in overseas theatres. Paul M. McLarty, '32, has recently been appointed Agency Instructor of the Atlanta Branch of New York Life Insurance Company. He will have charge of administering the company's educational course for new reciuits. In addition, he will have general supervision of the branch's brokerage operations. He will also continue his sales promotion work of Accident, Sickness and Hospitalization insurance.
W. D. Cornwed, '28, has been named a director of the Roy D. Warren Company, Inc., which deals in real estate, mortgage loans and insurance. Mr. Cornwell started in the construction business here in 1928, and is associated with Builders Specialty Company. R. Everette Kreeger, '28, recently opened offices at 1628 Candler Building, Atlanta, for general law practice. He received both a bachelor's and master's degree from the Atlanta Law School. Mr. Kreeger was connected with the Western Union Telegraph Company in Atlanta for more than 25 years.

Clifford T. Schwalb, CE '27, was recently appointed Chief Engineer of the Mississippi Export Railroad Company at Moss Point, Mississippi. His home address is 412 Griffin Road, Moss Point, Mississippi.
James M. Elliott, '22, formerly administrative vice-president and treasurer of Alexander Smith, Inc., of New York City, has been elected president of the company. He will also continue to serve as treasurer. Clement A. Evans, '22., president of Clement A. Evans & Company, Inc., Atlanta, has been named a member of the National Association of Security Dealers, Inc., public and member relations committee.
John E. Biggs, Jr., '23, of Tazewell, Virginia, died January, 1953. Last December Mr. Biggs was appointed a member of the State Highway Commission and was sent to Florida, where he was stricken with a heart ailment. He was engaged in banking in Tazewell until

LT. CDR. JOHN A. McALLISTER, '30 Lt. Cdr. John A. McAllister, '30, has reported to the Eighth Naval District Headquarters at New Orleans, Louisiana, for duty as Construction Battalion reserve program officer.
Colonel Peter J. Negri, '34, has been ordered to Columbia University to assume the post of Professor of Naval Science and Commanding officer of the Naval Reserve Officer Training Corps there. W. W. Castleberri/, '34, was recently transferred by Graybar Electric Company from Jacksonville to Atlanta. He is operating manager of the southern district of the company. John C. Douglas, EE '34, was recently elected to a five-year term on the Marietta College board of trustees. He is general superintendent of the Marietta Electro Metallurgical Plant, Union Carbide and Carbon Corporation, Marietta, Ohio. Mclver Evans, '34, vice president of DraperOwens Co., realtors, has been elected to the firm's board of directors. He is also vice president of the Atlanta Real Estate Board. Born: To Walter H.
