Council Guide
Fall/Winter 2026

Fall/Winter 2026
Dear Girl Scouts of Utah Members,
There’s so much to look forward to in Girl Scouting this year, and I’m excited to share how both Girl Scouts of Utah (GSU) and Girl Scouts of the USA (GSUSA) are working together to create fresh, meaningful opportunities for every girl and every volunteer.
In Membership Year 2026, the core of the Girl Scout Leadership Experience remains the same but it’s getting even better. With a mix of new programs and refreshed formats, we’re meeting today’s girls where they are and giving them the tools to grow into tomorrow’s leaders.
At the national level, GSUSA recently released New Leadership Awards offering fun ways for Juniors through Ambassadors to grow their confidence and purpose, Body Appreciation badges designed to transform how girls think and feel about their bodies, easier paths to Highest Awards with streamlined requirements and more flexible pathways, and a Solutions Superstar patch which gives girls a hands on introduction to problem-solving and logistics. These national program enhancements are helping girls thrive in bold new ways.
At GSU, we’re rolling out new formats to enhance your experience. Try our new Friendship Events or Badge Labs, designed to make Girl Scouting easier for caregivers and troop leaders. Our drop-off style Friendship Events feature a different theme each month as you connect with new and old friends. Girl Scouts can also earn a badge, with no additional prep required by the troop leader. Or explore how you can make an impact with targeted Highest Awards chats (hosted by award level!) and revamped council GAB opportunities.
For our dedicated adult volunteers, we’ve refreshed our trips and travel trainings to better support safe and successful adventures, and we’re proud to now offer Intro to GSU training in Spanish. We're also excited to launch our new Leader Development and Training Patch Program. Volunteers can earn a center patch and collect segment patches based on completed trainings—all at no cost—celebrating the time, talent, and dedication you bring to your troops.
As you explore this edition of the Council Guide, I hope you feel inspired by all that Girl Scouting continues to offer. Girls are truly at the heart of everything we do. Thank you for being an essential part of this Movement—and for everything you do to help girls grow with courage, confidence, and character.
Yours in Girl Scouting,
Lisa Hardin-Reynolds Chief Executive Officer

At Girl Scouts of Utah (GSU), our mission is to build girls of courage, confidence, and character, who make the world a better place. We provide girls with a supportive environment where they can discover their strengths, take on new challenges, and develop leadership skills that’ll last a lifetime. Serving youth and adult members across Utah and West Wendover, Nevada, GSU offers a range of programs in STEM, outdoors, entrepreneurship, and life skills—all designed to help girls grow into strong, capable leaders in their communities.
With three service centers, two retail shops, and two camp properties, we are committed to providing exceptional experiences that encourage Girl Scouts to explore their passions, embrace adventure, and create meaningful connections. Whether you’re a new Girl Scout, a dedicated volunteer, or a lifelong supporter, welcome to a Movement that empowers girls to make a difference!
Our council is divided into service units based on location. The service unit team is an essential support system that organizes training, mentorship, events, and membership support for their area. Each service unit is identified by a three-digit code and name.

The new Leadership Awards celebrate all the ways you lead—yourself, your team, and your community. Whether you’re leading a team project, guiding younger kids, speaking up for change, or learning to trust your instincts, these awards recognize and support the many ways leadership shows up. They’re flexible, fun, and designed to help Junior through Ambassador Girl Scouts practice leading with confidence and purpose.
It’s now easier than ever for Junior through Ambassador Girl Scouts to kick off their Bronze, Silver, or Gold Award. Already earned your Bronze or Silver? Great—each now counts as the prerequisite for the next! You can also complete one of the new Leadership Awards to build real-world skills and lead in the way that feels right for you. And if you’ve already started a Journey, keep going—you now only need to complete one (not two for the Gold Award!), and it will still count even after Journeys retire in October 2026.
Congratulations to Kassandra on being named our council’s GSUSA Gold Award Scholarship Girl Scout! As a recipient, she will receive a $5,000 scholarship towards her education. Applications will be open mid-March to mid-April.

Check GSUSA’s website for information on workshops, speakers, and other exciting events.
