ABOUT THE CREATIVE MEDIA INDUSTRIES INSTITUTE (CMII)
Using emerging technologies, CMII educates, trains and prepares students to become storytellers, media entrepreneurs and digital content creators. We lead the creative media industries in supporting the education of diverse students who make a positive economic, social and cultural impact on the world through storytelling and technology.
CMII PROGRAMS
CMII merges film, television, music, gaming and business with forward-thinking education and training to prepare students for careers in entertainment. CMII offers a B.A. in game design, a B.S. in game development, a B.I.S. in media entrepreneurship and an M.F.A. in digital filmmaking. The CMII team is composed of scholars and professors of practice who work with students not only on theory but also on practical industry knowledge.
KEY ACCOMPLISHMENTS
Over recent years, CMII has left an indelible mark through transformative events. In 2014, a historic $22.8 million gift from the Robert W. Woodruff Foundation enabled the renovation of a SunTrust Bank building annex, setting the stage for future endeavors. In 2017, CMII’s grand opening marked the beginning of a series of remarkable achievements.
The A3C Creator Complex in 2018 helped establish CMII as a hub for innovation. Collaborations in 2019 with the NFL and Jerry Rice led to the creation of “Call the Play,” benefiting middle school-aged kids, while the Georgia State Varsity Esports team claimed victory at the Fall National Collegiate Championship for SMITE. Christopher “Ludacris” Bridges also joined CMII as an artist in residence in 2019.
Professor of Practice Candice Alger’s recognition as Woman of the Year in the Arts by Women in Technology for 2020 highlighted CMII’s commitment to excellence.
In 2021, CMII’s partnership with the Alliance Theatre for the world debut of “Data” showcased its adaptability. The launch of the “Intersection Podcast” in collaboration with the Department of Africana Studies demonstrated CMII’s commitment to diverse and engaging content.
The year 2022 brought international recognition, with the Georgia State Varsity Esports Program securing the 7th spot on the BestColleges list. CMII hosted the Belgian Economic Mission, led by Her Royal Highness Princess Astrid, showcasing its cutting-edge production studios.
In 2023, CMII collaborated with technology and studio-enabled services provider Wild Capture, leading to a studio visit from legendary director Francis Ford Coppola.
