WHAT WE DO
The Creative Media Industries Institute (CMII) empowers students to attain creative industry careers while elevating marginalized voices and storytellers in the industry. Our diverse student body is trained in bleeding-edge technology—like motion and volumetric capture— through hands-on immersive experiences that prepare them to understand and embrace the exponential changes of the entertainment industry.
By developing the next generation of multiplatform creators and storytellers, CMII is fueling and diversifying Georgia’s dynamic creative economy.

YOUR GATEWAY TO THE ENTERTAINMENT INDUSTRY
WHO WE ARE
CMII merges film, television, music, gaming and business with forwardthinking education and training to prepare students for careers in entertainment. Over the past two decades, Georgia’s film, television, and digital entertainment industry experienced unprecedented growth, with a staggering $4 billion in direct spending in 2023 alone. It’s also provided employment opportunities for over 120,000 individuals in entertainmentrelated fields.
Georgia’s game design and development sector produces $770 million in annual economic impact, and Atlanta has been named one of the 10 best cities for game and esports opportunities,
PROGRAMS
An important goal is to prepare CMII students for careers in emerging technology. CMII offers a B.A. in game design and a B.S. in game development. In the media entrepreneurship program, students design their own degree, which begins with coursework in the Robinson College of Business and then follows with CMII classes tailored to the media industries. The new M.F.A. in digital filmmaking, concentration in virtual production and visual effects, provides advanced post-production technology and content creation training for media professionals.
Founded in 2017 and hosted within CMII, the Georgia State esports program boasts 30 scholarship athletes who compete in popular titles like League of Legends Overwatch 2, and Super Smash Bros. Ultimate. Notably, the program has clinched three national championships in Smite over the past three years, further solidifying its competitive prowess.
