A note from your overnight Camp Director

Hi Campers and Families!

I’m Flapatoous, and I’m thrilled to be back for another amazing summer at camp! This will be my fifth summer with GSSJC, and I can’t wait to see all of you at Misty Meadows Ranch, Camp Agnes Arnold, and Casa Mare.

This summer is packed with exciting updates:

• Friday parent ceremonies at all three camps before check out.

• New Brownie day camp sessions at Misty Meadows Ranch and Camp Agnes Arnold

• Expanded sailing sessions at Casa Mare

Fun fact: This is my 25th summer at Girl Scout camp! I spent 12 summers as a camper in Iowa and then worked at two camps for eight years before moving to Texas. Camp has shaped my life, and I love helping girls and staff create the same unforgettable memories I did.

I hope you find the perfect session for your summer adventure. See you soon!

NEW! Updated Weekly Schedule

We’re excited to share a change that makes camp even better! This summer, weekly sessions will run Sunday through Friday.

Fridays are still packed with fun! Campers will enjoy six hours of activities before parents arrive for our Parent Ceremony at 4 p.m. — a special time to hear about your camper’s favorite moments, meet camp staff, and get a glimpse of camp life. This change enables us to welcome campers’ families into the camp environment, offering them a firsthand look at what camp is all about. It also provides an opportunity to conduct evening in-service training for specific roles and a mid-summer refresher to keep safety top of mind for our staff.

Half/Mini Weeks:

• Sessions will now run Sunday – Tuesday or Wednesday – Friday.

• Check-out days follow the same schedule as full weeks, but campers who check out on Tuesdays will have a smaller, shorter Parent Ceremony.

We can’t wait to share this new rhythm with you — it’s designed to make camp even more fun and meaningful for everyone!

GSSJC Summer Camp: Safe, Fun, Unforgettable!

Health & Safety: Our #1 Priority

Your camper’s well-being comes first. All our summer camps meet rigorous standards for health, safety, facilities, programming, and staffing set by the State of Texas, Girl Scouts of the USA, and the American Camp Association.

We maintain a 1:6 staff-to-camper ratio for every program. Each camp has a dedicated Health Specialist onsite, overseen by a Health Supervisor, and local hospitals and first responders are always on call. Special diet accommodations are managed with care, and in the event of an emergency, parents are notified immediately. For complete details, refer to the Parent Guide in the GSSJC Online Community for Summer Camp.

Girl Scouts + ACA: A Standard of Excellence

Every GSSJC summer camp is accredited by the American Camp Association (ACA) — the gold standard in camp safety and quality. Our ACA accreditation was renewed in 2025 and means our camps meet rigorous national requirements for camper health and safety, staff training, program excellence, and emergency preparedness. When your camper joins us, you can feel confident they’re in a safe, well-supervised environment designed for fun, growth, and adventure.

Our Staff: Experienced, Screened, and Ready to Lead

Your camper’s safety and experience are our top priority. Many of our camp staff grew up as GSSJC Girl Scouts, completed our Counselor/Wrangler-in-Training program, or attended camp themselves. We also recruit talented staff from colleges across Texas and through our international cultural exchange program.

Most staff members are 18 or older, with select roles for 16 and 17-year-olds. Our team is primarily female, with a few male staff members who won't enter camper or staff sleeping areas unless it's an emergency.

Every staff member completes a thorough screening process — including application, interview, background check, and extensive training — before supervising campers. We choose individuals for their skills, experience, enthusiasm, and ability to be positive role models. Our staff spend two to three weeks before camp in intensive training that covers emergency procedures and hands-on practice drills. Throughout the summer, we provide ongoing education to keep safety skills sharp and ensure your child’s well-being remains our top priority.

NEW! Day Camp at Misty Meadows Ranch and Camp Agnes Arnold

We’re excited to introduce day camp sessions at both Misty Meadows Ranch and Camp Agnes Arnold! Each full week of summer will include one day camp option — Monday through Friday, 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.* Campers will enjoy all the best activities from overnight camp without the overnight stay.

It’s the perfect way to experience camp life and get ready for a full week of overnight camp in 2027! Plus, campers can choose an optional Thursday overnight and join the Final Night Campfire at Arnold.

*Friday checkout is at 5 p.m. following the Parent Ceremony that starts at 4 p.m..

How to Register

Registration opens January 13 at 10 a.m.

Sign up early to snag your first-choice session — and have a second and third choice ready just in case!

Registering for summer camp is simple and stress-free. We use UltraCamp, a system designed just for camp registration. Scan the QR code to go straight to the GSSJC UltraCamp page, or visit the Online Community > Summer Camp to access it.

Pro tip: Bookmark UltraCamp in your browser for quick access anytime! If you registered last summer, just log in to your existing account. Forgot your password? Use “Forgot Password” to reset it. Not sure which email you used? Reach out to customerservice@sjgs.org — we’re happy to help! Scan

Payments and Deposits

What’s included in your registration? Your camp fee covers all session activities, a camp T-shirt, a patch, and a $10 Trading Post allowance. A $50 deposit per camper, per session is required at registration. Flexible payment options — including automated plans — are available in UltraCamp, and full payment for each session is due four weeks before it begins.

If you add an optional camp pack, payment for that pack is due at registration along with your deposit. Please note: after the payment deadline, GSSJC may cancel unpaid registrations and retain any payments made.

For full details on deposits, payment plans, and due dates, visit gssjc.org/summercamp.

Financial Assistance (Camperships)

We know that the cost of attending summer camp can be a financial challenge for many families. All girls who are members of Girl Scouts of San Jacinto Council may apply for financial assistance to attend summer overnight and day camp. Applicants must pay the $50 deposit when applying for a campership, unless applying for a full campership. Camperships cover the cost of camp sessions only and do not include camp packs.

Camperships are need-based awards limited to one overnight or day camp session per girl, per summer. A 2025 – 26 GSUSA membership and participation in the Fall Product or Cookie Program, or both, for the current membership year is required.

Requests for camperships are due no later than four weeks prior to the start of your camper’s session. Requests received after that date will be reviewed if funds are available. A volunteer committees reviews completed applications. You will receive a letter from the committee notifying you of the decision, including the approved amount or a notice of non-approval.

When registering, be sure to complete the Campership application. All fields must be filled out, and the parent or guardian must sign the form before it can be reviewed.

Help Send a Girl to Camp

Financial assistance to attend camp called Camperships is made possible by Girl Scout supporters who believe in the power of outdoor leadership experiences for girls. Help make camp possible for every Girl Scout! Donate online at gssjc.org/donate or mail a check to: GSSJC Campership Fund, 3110 Southwest Freeway, Houston, TX 77098. Write “Campership” on the memo line. Your gift is tax-deductible.

Every donation helps girls experience the magic of camp. Plus, your support of the annual Girl Scout Cookie Program helps keep camp costs lower for all families.

Waitlists

Waitlists are only offered for our most popular sessions! While it's rare for a space to become available, waitlists help us measure interest and plan ahead. If we can add a session in another week, those on the waitlist get first dibs. It’s our way of making future summers even better! If your camper is on a waitlist, we recommend registering for an open session to guarantee they’ll have an amazing camp experience with us.

Cell Phone Policy

Campers are not allowed to bring cell phones or any device that connects to a cellular network. If a camper brings a cell phone it will be collected by camp staff and held in a locked area until the end of the camp session. They will be returned to the camper at the medication pick up station at check out.

* Please note that all staff are permitted to carry their personal cell phones, which may be used in case of an emergency. Our facilities have reliable cellular service throughout camp, ensuring dependable connectivity. In addition, each group and program area is equipped with a walkie-talkie connected to our camp channel, ensuring fast and easy communication.

Part of the magic of camp is for campers to unplug and enjoy their time in nature making new friends and challenging themselves by trying new things. We appreciate your support in encouraging your camper to leave their cell phones at home. Additionally, parent and camper communication while at camp is limited to letters either mailed through USPS or dropped off during check in. Mail is handed out after lunch daily. Mail is not handed out on check in days.

Refund/Transfer Policy

If you cancel in writing more than four weeks before the start date of the camp session, a full refund of all camp fees paid, minus the $50 nonrefundable deposit, will be made. The $50 deposit and any other payments made on the cancelled session may be transferred to another 2026 council camp session until four weeks prior to start of the canceled session. Changes and cancellations made less than four weeks before the camp session’s start date are nonrefundable and non-transferrable.

Lets Partner to Support Your Camper

If your girl has medical or other special needs and can function well with a 1:6 adult-tocamper ratio, we encourage you to work with us to identify the most appropriate camp program for her. If your girl needs more support to be successful, please contact our office at 713-292-0300 so we can connect you with resources to aid your search.

UltraCamp Health Forms

Year to year we make small changes on our health forms in UltraCamp. If you are a return camper your previously information will be saved from last summer. You will need to go in and review last year’s information and resubmit the form to ensure everything is up to date.

Please complete the UltraCamp forms at least four weeks before your camper’s session starts. Our health team reviews every form to ensure we can provide the best care and the most fun to each camper during their time with us!

Make piñatas for Nuestra Cabaña in Mexico, create mandalas for Sangam in India, design kente cloth for Kusafiri in Ghana, and more! Plus, you’ll have the chance to share your own family traditions with new friends.

Savvy Stitchers

Discover the joy of knitting, crocheting, sewing, and more — no experience needed! Beginners will learn the basics, while advanced “grandmas” can tackle new projects and help fellow campers. At the end of the session, show off your creations at our closing art show for family and friends!

CIT I (Seniors & Ambassadors)

This two-week program is designed to help future camp leaders shine. In Week 1 (June 8 – 12), you’ll learn how to be a role model and assist with activities for younger campers. Then, return for Week 2 to put your training into action by supporting counselors and leading fun experiences. Once girls are registered for the first week, parents will be contacted in order of girl registration to choose their second CIT I week.

Camp Aide (Cadettes+)

The camp aide session is designed for Cadettes looking to develop their leadership skills and earn their program aide pin. As a program aide, girls will turn some of their favorite activities into fun experiences for younger girls. Work with staff to plan and lead activities. Seniors and Ambassadors may sign up for camp aide sessions but will not be eligible to earn the CIT I pin unless they complete the CIT 1 session.
