Camp Molly Lauman: The Place You’ll Grow!

Since 1929, Girl Scouts from across our council have spent their summers at Camp Molly Lauman. Girl Scout Resident Camp is the Place You’ll Grow – everyone can try new things, from learning independence, trying archery, building a campfire, and so much more. Growing up at Girl Scout camp gave me the confidence to grow from a nervous first-time camper into a confident leader and adventurer, and I am so grateful for those experiences!

Whether it’s your first time at camp or you’re a seasoned pro, Camp Molly Lauman is the place for you. You’ll meet new friends and have adventures with counselors from around Ohio (and the world) who are there to help you have the best week ever. There are lots of camp themes, so you can choose a session that’s right for you – from explosive science experiments to learning new art skills, from channeling your inner pirate to learning about horseback riding, there is something for all ages. You can come for just a few days or a whole week—and you can come more than once!

If you’re not a registered Girl Scout, that’s okay! All you need to do is pay a $30 membership fee in addition to camp registration costs. This will also allow you to participate in other activities with Girl Scouts of Ohio’s Heartland through September 2024!

We encourage you to talk with your family when deciding which session to attend—camp is most successful when campers and adults make the decision together. We can’t wait to welcome you to our home in the woods and discover what memories you’ll make.

Camp Activities Each camp has activities that relate to a special theme. Your counselors will have amazing activities planned for you when you arrive, but bring your own ideas too! You get to help plan the schedule for the camp week of your dreams. You might even earn a badge or two while you’re at it! All campers also have plenty of time to do traditional camp activities featuring:

Life in the Woods Campers live in a group with other girls who have signed up for the same program. Each unit has sleeping quarters for 16-24 campers, pit latrines, a hand washing station and a picnic shelter. Campers also have access to a private changing area in each unit if they wish to use it. Two central shower houses are available, which all campers have the option to use on each full day of camp. In case of severe weather, indoor lodges are available. We have four types of sleeping structures:

Platform tents are where most campers sleep. They are heavy canvas structures with wooden floors and four beds. Open flaps allow for light and ventilation.

Cabins have lights, screened windows and four beds. They have electricity, so you may want to bring a small plug in fan to help you stay cool.

Yurts are a cool cross between tents and cabins. They have ceiling fans, lights, screened windows, and four sets of bunk beds.

Our lodge is a large open room. Campers sleep on folding cots and have access to indoor bathrooms.

Camp Staff Camp staff come from around Ohio and the world! They go through a rigorous selection, screening and training process. Many staff members are aspiring teachers, outdoor educators, or medical professionals, and some are former campers, too! They work at camp because they love having fun and seeing your campers grow and thrive in the safe environment they help create.

Except for campers who sleep in the lodge, staff members do not sleep in the same quarters as campers. Counselors stay in tents or cabins near the center of the unit where they can easily monitor everyone. At night, counselors will check to make sure that everyone is settling in, and often read stories or sing each tent to sleep. They are always in earshot and ready to help. Camp administrative staff will reach out if your camper is having any issues that you should be aware of!

What’s Cooking?

Meals at camp are kid-friendly and healthy, and we can accommodate most common allergies and dietary restrictions. Most meals are served familystyle in the camp dining hall. Campers also enjoy campfire cookouts, where they’ll get to help plan the menu and prepare the meals.

Typical meals include pizza, tacos, chicken nuggets and mac and cheese, French toast sticks and bacon, and lots more. There’s always a salad or breakfast bar available and a sandwich station too! Campers have access to fruit and snacks like pretzels or granola bars if they need a bit to eat between meals.

Over half of our campers come on their own, so don’t worry if you sign up without a buddy! You’ll live with a group that signed up for the same session as you, so you’ll already have something in common. Camp counselors are great at helping everyone to get to know each other with fun games and activities. You’ll want to bring a notebook and pen to get contact info from your new buddies at the end of the week!

Bring a Friend!

You can request a buddy* to bunk with you during your time at camp.

To be bunk buddies, you both must be registered for the same program, and both must request each other by name, not troop number. Buddy requests are made through the CampDoc system after registering for camp – more information can be found in our Resident Camp Success Guide. Why just one buddy? Most campers stay in four-person tents or cabins. We do not allow groups of three to request each other because that leaves one camper in the tent/cabin feeling left out. After all, part of the fun of camp is meeting new friends! If you have more than one friend coming to camp with you, you’ll have plenty of time to hangout with them during your daytime activities. *Requests for multiple buddies will not be honored.

Tiered Pricing We believe that every camper, regardless of financial circumstances, should have the opportunity to experience camp. While the cost to maintain camp continues to rise, we understand that families have different abilities to meet summer camp costs. For this reason, we use tiered pricing.

Tier One closely reflects the full cost of camp, including staff expenses, property maintenance, program experiences and supplies, and food.

Tier Two is a partially subsidized cost of camp, for families that can pay a little more, but not the full cost of camp.

Tier Three is heavily subsidized through grants, the generosity of donors, and through participation in product programs.

Choose the tier that works best for you and your family. Fee choice is on the honor system and no financial documentation is required. All campers have the same experience regardless of the tier chosen, and camp staff has no knowledge of which tier their campers selected.

Financial Aid Financial assistance can be requested by visiting gsoh.org/residentcamp.

Requests are processed on a first come, first served basis. We try to support as many campers as possible through our Financial Assistance program and therefore may not be able to honor your full request amount.

A $50 deposit is required to reserve your space at camp. Financial assistance cannot be used to cover this deposit. Once your space is secured, you can make payments at your own pace from the time of registration until June 1 in your FAQ Webinar MyGS Account.

How to Register Online registration starts at 8:30 a.m. on Wednesday, February 7.

Registration should be completed online via myGS. If you are unable to complete registration online, paper registration forms can be found online at gsoh.org/residentcamp. To register, head to gsoh.org, find myGS at the top right of the screen and login (or create an account if you haven’t already). Click on My Events, then Register for Another Event and search by name, date, or other criteria. Once you select a camp program, the system will walk you through the steps to register and check out. For additional help, please visit gsoh.org/activities for a step-by-step guide.

Fees and due dates: • $50 non-refundable deposit – due at time of registration. ($100 to secure a spot in Adventure Treks.)

• $50 bus fee – due at time of registration.

• $30 membership fee (if not a currently registered Girl Scout) – due at time of registration.

• Remaining balance – due on June 1 (May 1 for Adventure Treks).

• Care package cost – due at time of order.

• A late fee of $20 will be added to balances paid after the June 1 payment deadline (May 1 for Adventure Treks).

• Complete all forms that you receive in your confirmation – due June 1.

Bus Transportation Hop on a bus ride to camp that’s fun for campers and easy for caregivers!

Camp counselors supervise the bus ride and sing songs with campers as they make their way to camp!

Your camper can catch the bus in Sunbury or at the Watermark office in Columbus. Exact bus stop locations and times are included in the Camp Success Guide, which can be found at gsoh.org/residentcamp.

The bus fee is $50 for all bus stops. Pre-registration is required. Bus fees are paid at the time of registration.

Want to Work at Camp?

Camp Staff – Minimum Age 18 If you want to spend your summer laughing, singing, teaching, and being a professional role model, camp is the place for you!

We’ve got jobs ranging from counselors to lifeguards to kitchen staff and more, with pay based on position and experience.

It’s the perfect resume builder to enhance careers in fields as wide-ranging as education, healthcare, management, and more! Basic requirements are that you enjoy working with children, are at ease in an outdoor environment, and can work hard as a part of a diverse team. Staff lives on site at camp all summer, with time off on weekends. Employment dates are May 31-July 27. You’ll change lives – including your own!

Junior Staff Young adults who are 16 or older and have previously completed both CIT 1 and CIT 2 can apply to be a junior staff member! This paid opportunity is the ultimate leadership experience for high school students not yet old enough to become full-time staff members. Junior Staff must attend staff training from May 31-June 7 and work together with the camp director to set your schedule, selecting which weeks you’d like to work. Junior Staff should be able to commit to a minimum of three sessions during the summer.

Prairie dock is one of our tallest native wildflowers. It has yellow, sunflower-like blossoms on stems that can grow to be taller than a school bus!

Mini Sessions Daisies, Brownies, and Juniors Mini sessions are a great way for first-time and younger campers to try out camp. Learn about treasure hunting through geocaching and metal detecting, learn some fencing moves, and design cardboard ships to sail across Big Bear Lake – and of course, make your counselors walk the plank! ◾ Sun. Wonder Women Grade Completed: 4–5 Number of Days: 6 Get in touch with your inner superhero as you fight self-doubt and limitations. In between your work as a detective, you’ll get to enjoy time off at the pool and other classic camp activities.

Sample flavors from around the world with international counselors and prepare dishes to serve to the rest of the campers. Ready for a week of outdoor adventure? Spend lots of time doing themed activities and camp classics planned together by you and your counselors, such as archery, spa mixology, slacklining, challenge course, and yoga. Choose your adventure from these amazing week-long camps.

Grade Completed: 6–8 Number of Days: 6 This week at camp is all about you! It’s your time to relax, be creative, and be yourself. You’ll learn strategies for self care as you plan delicious and healthy meals, pamper yourself with DIY spa treatments, and try out fun ways to exercise like yoga and Zumba. Artrageous Grade Completed: 6–11 Number of Days: 6 Being outside is a great way to spark your creativity! Spend time with other campers and counselors who love art as you explore different forms of artistic expression, like painting, sculpture, embroidery, and collage.

Teen Leadership Programs Counselor in Training 1* (CIT 1) Grade Completed: 9–11 Number of Days: 8 Want to work at camp someday? In this fun, hands-on camp, you’ll go in-depth to develop your leadership skills in preparation to be a camp counselor. Discover your own personal leadership style as you work to identify and build on the strengths that you already possess. Get ready to build connections, make memories, learn and laugh with your sister CITs, and lead the way for younger Girl Scouts!

Explore your strengths and passions, define your personal ethics, and get to know other future role models. Turn your dreams into reality and spend a week working directly with younger girls.

You’ll spend the weekend on an out-ofcamp camping trip and receive your CIT2 pin at a fireside ceremony at the end of this program. ◾ Sun. July 7- Fri. Gear Up: What to Pack We want your camper to be ready to go for all activities regardless of the what the weather at Camp Molly Lauman. Below you can find our recommended guide for packing your camper’s week of supplies. For a printable version, scan the QR code at the bottom of the page.

Clothing: � Shorts (1 for each day). � Short-sleeved shirts (1 for each day) (Sleeveless shirts are not recommended. Do not pack spaghetti strapped tops or halters.). � Lightweight jacket or hoodie. � Rain jacket or poncho (1). � Long pants (1-2 pairs). � Underwear/bras/socks (1 for each day, plus at least 1 extra). � Pajamas (1). � Shower shoes/sandals (1 pair). � Sturdy shoes (2 pairs) (No open toe, clogs or sandals). � Water shoes (1 pair). � Swimsuit (1-2) (no string bikinis).

Bedding and linens: � Twin size fitted sheet. � Sleeping bag. � Pillow and pillow case. � Towel (2) (One for bathing and one for the pool.).

Outdoor Explorer West Virginia This weeklong adventure takes travelers through a variety of outdoor activities at ACE Adventure Resort. These include white water rafting, rock climbing, mountain biking, and more! This trip will be the outdoor adventure of a lifetime.

The trip will depart from Camp Molly Lauman and conclude in Columbus, OH. ◾ Sun., June 16 - Sun., June 23, 2024 Cost: $850 per person and includes transportation, lodging, meals, and activities.

Life on the Trail: Appalachian Adventure Spend 4 days and 3 nights backpacking and camping on the Appalachian Trail in Tennessee.

Learn essential skills like trailside cooking, water purification, and hiking. Sleep out under the stars every night! After backpacking, wrap up the experience with some sightseeing at local attractions. You’ll spend the rest of the week at Camp Molly Lauman enjoying traditional resident camp activities. Travelers must be at least 13 years old at the time of travel (with exceptions) and may be required to come prepared with specialized camping gear, which will be communicated in early 2024. ◾ Sun., July 14-Sun., July 21, 2024 Cost: $850 per person and includes transportation, lodging, meals, and activities.
