A Message from the Board Chair & CEO
Dear Friends of Girl Scouts of Northern New Jersey,
During our fiscal year 2022, Girl Scouts celebrated 110 years of preparing girls for a lifetime of leadership, adventure, and success, and we couldn’t be prouder to share the highlights from our year, recognizing the many accomplishments of our 18,000 Girl Scouts in northern New Jersey. Through the support of our valued volunteers, Board of Directors, staff, donors and members, our Girl Scouts participated in a wide range of program activities, take action projects, and initiatives across our four pillars of STEM, the Outdoors, Life Skills, and Entrepreneurship, which enabled them to gain experience along with courage and confidence.
At Girl Scouts of Northern New Jersey, 2022 was a year of transition and also of growth as we welcomed a new President/Chief Executive Officer, saw tremendous growth in contributed income through donations, sold 27% more Girl Scout Cookies than the year prior, and expanded our community engagement outreach capabilities to better meet diversity, equity, inclusion, and racial justice objectives. We saw a return to travel and to Broadway, exceeded our membership goals, logged hundreds of miles hiking and backpacking, and celebrated three years of Gold Award Girl Scouts with a special event.
What we love to see are the incredible connections our Girl Scouts have built with each other and their communities. We value the sisterhood that is fostered through Girl Scouting and know that as girls learn about how to support each other and create healthy relationships, they can together make changes in their community. We are so proud of the way that our Girl Scouts are making the world a better place.
We remain committed to delivering the Girl Scout Leadership Experience to engage and inspire girls to find their voice. We continue to innovate and find ways to better connect in our community for the benefit of the girls. And most importantly, we thank you so much for your partnership and all you do to provide the Girl Scout Leadership Experience to the 18,000 Girl Scouts in northern New Jersey.
Sincerely,
Bette M. Simmons, Ed.D. Chair, Board of Directors
