Read the complete event description and registration instructions carefully, as not all events are registered through gsnc.org.

If you can’t make the date of a program, contact our Program Partner directly to schedule your own program at a more convenient time.

What do these icons mean?

You will find these symbols throughout the program guide to determine the Girl Scout grade levels and who can participate in a program.

Registration Information Who can participate in an event or program?

All program opportunities in Possibilities are offered to registered Girl Scouts in Nassau County. Registered Girl Scouts can participate in level-appropriate programs and events with or without her troop, or as a Juliette, (formerly referred to as an independently registered Girl Scout with no troop affiliation). Non-registered girls need to include the $40 Girl Scout membership fee along with the program registration fee. Girl Scouts from other councils may attend GSNC events if there is space to accommodate them. Placement is on a first-come, first-served basis.

Individual Girls and Juliettes It is the parent’s/guardian’s responsibility to ensure proper adult supervision to all programs.

Troops Those attending as a troop must be accompanied by two approved Girl Scout adult members meeting ratio and Safety Activity Checkpoints requirements. Virtual programs must also have at least two adults supervising.

Tag-Alongs Tag-Alongs are non-registered participants, like siblings.

See individual listings to determine if Tag-Alongs are permitted and if there is a Tag-Along fee associated with the program. Registered Girl Scouts are given first preference. Due to the current health crisis, there may be restrictions to our Tag-Along policy. Please check the program information for details.

Programs Hosted by Program Partners Program partners must comply with all COVID-19 standards and GSNC policies and practices. Please continue to visit www.gnsc.org for the most up-to-date COVID-19 standards and GSNC policy.

Virtual Programs Please review and complete GSNC’s Internet Safety Pledge with your Girl Scout. Use it as a guide to ensure the safety of your Girl Scout as she enjoys multiple virtual experiences. https://www.girlscouts.org/en/help/help/internet-safetypledge.html If materials are required for a virtual program, that information and a Zoom link will be sent to you with your confirmation at least one week prior to the program.

Participants are responsible for testing links 24 hours prior to the start of a program.

How to register for GSNC programs

Confirmation Email

You are not registered until you have completed the payment process. Upon completion, you will receive a confirmation email. If you do not receive a confirmation email, contact customercare@gsnc.org.

Upon completion of payment, you will receive a confirmation email. This email contains important information like Zoom links, materials required, rules of conduct, and a reminder that it is the responsibility of the participant to test the Zoom link at least 24 hours prior to the start of the program and to report technical difficulties to the contact listed on the confirmation immediately. Please check your Spam and Junk folders, if you cannot locate your confirmation.

Online Visit gsnc.org, click on the “Programs” link located on the navigation bar and follow the instructions.

Payment Payment must be made at the time of registration.

Fees may be paid with the following types of payment:

Program listings in the front of the book are vetted by staff employed by GSNC. This includes assuring that sanctioned GSUSA Safety Activity Checkpoints are being followed and that the programming is aligned with Girl Scout badge requirements.

Cash (With paper registrations turned in to Council

Service Center only)

Checks or Troop Checks (Payable to Girl Scouts of Nassau County)

Credit Cards (MasterCard, Visa, American Express, and Discover)

Cookie Credits (See below)

Cookie Credits Earned by individual girls who sell 300 or more boxes of cookies. Cookie Credits can be used for all GSNC council activities listed in this book.

To Redeem Cookie Credits Individuals may fill out the requested information on the Individual Girl Scout Program Registration Form.

Or you may attach the Cookie Credit Redemption Form downloadable at gsnc.org (search “Cookie Credit Redemption Form”) with your program registration.

If placement in a program does not occur and you paid in cash, credit card, or with a check, your payment will be returned.

Refunds Registration fees are nonrefundable unless Girl Scouts of Nassau County cancels the program, barring extenuating circumstances.

Refunds are not available for no-shows, late arrivals, early departures, or participants’ failure to test links 24 hours prior to the program. GSNC is not responsible for participants’ technical issues.

Meeting locations Meetings and programs held at private residential homes are not permitted.

Girls Need Girls GSNC is launching all kinds of new programs that girls in troops and independently registered girls with no troop affiliation (Juliettes) are invited to attend.

Girls need other girls to: ✓ Discover that they can solve problems and overcome challenges together ✓ Develop leadership skills that strengthen confidence and self-esteem ✓ Build healthy social bonds, with girls inside and outside of their grade level, school district, and beyond ✓ Become lifetime team players who are successful in the workplace GSNC is excited about the high-quality programs that are convenient, family-friendly, and engaging.

We’ll climb aboard the International Space Station through an

airlock and get a glimpse into life as an astronaut; living, eating, and sleeping aboard the ISS. We’ll learn about the layers of our sun, use a pinhole projector to see the sun, split the sun’s rays to make a rainbow and conduct an experiment to determine how the moon got its craters.

Brownies Programming Robots Badge Workshop In Snapology’s fun, hands-on badge workshop, learn about

simple machines and motion sensors. Build a robotic alligator using LEGO bricks and program it to “life” using WeDo software.

First-Year Fears: College Safety for Women Being on your own for the first time can create a lot of anxiety.

As women, we have a unique set of fears regarding our safety.

Conversations about campus, dorm safety, and new social situations can be helpful in creating proactive safety plans. This program will provide a safe space for your fears and allow you to build mental preparedness and action-plans for different scenarios, including basic self-defense moves.

It’s always fun to make something you can wear or give away!

Come to Crossroads Farm, a working registered NOFA certified, organic nonprofit farm run by Nassau Land Trust, Inc. While here, harvest and process natural dyes from things like beets, sunflowers, and basil.

Take some home to experiment with dying a shirt or other piece of cloth.

Take photos during the process so you can create a photo journal of your experience.

Learn to paint with watercolors, capturing the beauty of natural light and experience painting and drawing in Walt Whitman Birthplace Gardens. Learn about the art of the Hudson River School and the Impressionism Movement of the 19th century as you paint in a beautiful outdoor setting.

They also adapt to changes well because they are go-getting, innovating, risk-taking leaders. Get started earning your Girl Scouting at Home seasonal add-on patches. Form a circle or stack them, the choice is yours!

If you haven’t earned your Girl Scouting at Home patch, there is no time to waste and so much fun to be had as you acquire new skills and make the world a better place!

Complete a total of 35 activities, five activities for each of seven categories listed along the outer rim of the patch. Use the Girl Scouting at Home log to track the activities you have completed.

If you did, that’s great! Now, GSNC challenges you to complete five more activities per season to earn your winter, spring, summer, and fall add-on patches. Use the Girl Scouting at Home log (on the next page) to track the activities you have accomplished for spring 2021 and summer 2021.

Select programs from this issue of Possibilities or Try it! Prepare it! Read it! Do it! Find it! Create it! and Share it! on your own. If you select programs from Possibilities, you will find that the activity fulfilled is defined under “Learn and Earn.” The choices are endless and you are in charge! Do it yourself, do it with other Girl Scouts, do it with friends and family. . .just do it!

Patches may be purchased at the GSNC shop. The deadline for earning your Spring 2021 patch is June 20, and for Summer 2021, the deadline is August 31. Keep your log in a safe place as you must present it to claim your patch. Add-on patches are $1.
