The Girl Scout Mission

Girl Scouting builds girls of courage, confidence, and character, who make the world a better place.

The Girl Scout Promise

On my honor, I will try:

To serve God* and my country, To help people at all times, And to live by the Girl Scout Law.

*Members may substitute for the word “God” in accordance with their own spiritual beliefs.

The Girl Scout Law

I will do my best to be honest and fair, friendly and helpful, considerate and caring, courageous and strong, and responsible for what I say and do, and to respect myself and others, respect authority, use resources wisely, make the world a better place, and be a sister to every Girl Scout.

Girl Scouts plays a unique role in a girl’s life. It is where her leadership skills blossom, lifelong friendships are secured, and she has access to opportunities beyond her imagination. With an emphasis on self-discovery, character building, and community impact, Girl Scouts help girls become a powerful force for good in the world.

As you go through this issue of Possibilities, you will notice that in addition to the traditional council program listings, we added some new sections and resources to help you, the Girl Scout volunteer, plan your Girl Scout year including training, safety information, trip applications, troop funding and financial assistance information, and more. And, in the Council-Led Programs section, you will see that almost all the programs listed will help your Girl Scouts earn a badge.

Once you’ve read through the guide, we encourage you to bring your copy to your troop meeting and spend some time going through the council-led programs with your Girl Scouts. See which programs interest them, and use it as a guide to plan your troop year and set goals for the upcoming Product Programs, Mags&Munchies and the Girl Scout Cookie Program.

I look forward to hearing about all the amazing things you and your Girl Scouts have planned for the year.

Yours in Girl Scouting,

Rande, Chief Executive Officer

P.S. Stay tuned for additional changes coming to the upcoming issues of Possibilities, including more robust Preferred Program Partners and the addition of programs and learning opportunities for Girl Scout volunteers and adults.

The Girl Scout Experience

What makes Girl Scouting truly unique? Everything is designed especially for, and is tested by, girls! Our program centers on what girls do and how they do it. Activities are girl-led, which gives girls opportunities to explore leadership roles and “learn by doing” in a cooperative-learning environment.

In Girl Scouts, girls will:

Discover: Every activity girls tackle in Girl Scouts helps them discover who they are, what they care about, and where their talents lie.

Connect: Girls collaborate with and learn from other people and expand their horizons. This helps them care about and inspire others locally and globally.

Take Action: As girls connect with and show care for others, they become eager to take action to make the world a better place.

So what does this mean for your troop? Through Girl Scouting, your girls will develop a strong sense of self, demonstrate positive values, seek challenges, solve significant problems in her community, and establish healthy relationships. These aren’t just good qualities— they’re leadership skills that will last a lifetime!

What Makes a Successful Troop Experience?

No matter where your girls live, a universal Girl Scout experience connects them to their Girl Scout sisters around the country. And there are so many ways to make sure your girls get the full Girl Scout experience in a way that excites and inspires them!

You can count on Girl Scouts to provide…

Tools for Family Involvement

Supportive Adult Mentors

Throughout their troop year, you’ll support your girls as they...

Your Parent Volunteer Team

Cooperative, Hands-On Learning

Girl-Led Activities

Learn Girl Scout Traditions

It takes a village to lift up the next generation of leaders; you don’t have to embark on your troop leader journey alone! Set the stage for a successful troop year by tapping into the people resources already at your fingertips: caregivers and other family members, friends, and members of the community have their own unique strengths and can provide troops with time, experience, and ideas— so get them involved from the very beginning as part of your troop volunteer team!

Some members of your volunteer team might play more active roles than others—and that’s OK! One caregiver in your troop might step up as a dedicated troop treasurer, while others might volunteer to chaperone a field trip. Some roles, especially those that involve handling troop funds and supervising girls, require additional background check and training approval. Be sure those volunteers get signed up before they jump into the fun!

To learn more about volunteering, scan the QR code or visit bit.ly/gsnc-ways-to-volunteer.

Family Connections: The Key Ingredient to Successful Girl Scout Troops

Girl Scouting provides the best opportunities for girls when families step up and play an active part in the troop. Without meaningful support from parents, it’s difficult for a troop to be all it can be. Plus, girls feel a special sense of pride when their families take part and show interest in the things they are doing!

Kick the Year Off Right with a Parents and Caregivers Meeting

A parent and caregiver meeting should be the first meeting you hold to start each troop year—it sets up both new and returning troops for success!

Safety in Girl Scouting

Safety Activity Checkpoints (SAC) provides the standard safety guidelines for Girl Scouts of the USA on where to do the activity, how to include girls with disabilities, where to find both basic and specialized gear for the activity, and the specific steps to follow on the day of the activity. Safety Activity Checkpoints will also note if a first-aider is required. When preparing for any activity with girls, check Girl Scouts’ Safety Activity Checkpoints at bit.ly/gsnc-safety-activitycheckpoints or by scanning the QR code. If a safety activity checkpoint doesn’t exist for an activity you and your girls are interested in, please contact GSNC at customercare@gsnc.org before making any definite plans.

Girl Scout's Adult Supervision Rule is a strict standard requiring that whenever girls meet, either in-person or virtually, there must be at least two registered, approved adult volunteers who are unrelated (for example: not a sibling, spouse, domestic partner, parent, child, or anyone who would be considered a family member) and who do not live in the same residence, with a minimum of one who is female. Troop leaders must always be adults. This rule applies to every Girl Scout gathering including troop meetings (in-person or virtual), day trips, camp, sleep-away travel, events, activities, and projects. There are no exceptions to this rule.

Banking Info for Leaders

After completing the GSNC New Leader training, you'll be contacted by the Membership Experience team via email with instructions for how to set up your Girl Scout bank account. Every troop who anticipates their participation in the collection of troop dues, product program sales, and fundraising must establish a troop bank account. The email will include the service unit treasurer for your area and how to contact them. It is important to maintain a financial relationship with your service unit treasurer, as they will be the third authorized signer on every troop bank account.

In January and June of every Girl Scout year, a Troop Financial Report must be submitted for every GSNC troop bank account opened. To access this GSUSA-required report, scan the QR code or visit bit.ly/gsnc-forms-docs. To help with this mandatory process, we ask you to track your finances regularly using our expense tracking worksheet. This requirement for every troop helps gives GSNC a detailed account of how all troop money is spent.

Best Practices:

1. Banking with a credit union is highly recommended, as they generally do not charge fees. However, it is best to check with banks first as all rates differ.

2. Seek advice from your service unit treasurer for a desired bank and any other financial inquiries you may have.

3. If an existing troop or service team member(s) needs to change the signers on an existing bank account, please submit a request by scanning the QR code or visiting bit.ly/gsnc-bankaccount-request.

4. GSNC allows the use of Zelle during product program sales and troop transactions; we ask that leaders do not use less secure apps like Cash App and Venmo.

5. Remember, funds raised by the troop are not the property of any individual girl or adult, as it is considered “troop funds” belonging to the troop.

6. Handling of money should always be transparent. Troop members and their families can request to review bank statements and transactions at any time.

7. Use GSNC’s useful expense tracking sheet tool to keep a good record of your troop expenses throughout the year. It’ll streamline the process of preparing and submitting your troop’s financial information to GSNC for the January and June reports.

Please contact GSNC at customercare@gsnc.org if you have any questions or concerns regarding your troop financials.

Funding the Fun

Your girls probably have some big ideas about what they want to do in Girl Scouts—and that’s awesome! As a troop leader, you’ll coach them as they learn to earn and manage troop funds. But where do you start?

Troop activities are powered in two main ways:

Troop dues: Many troops decide to collect troop dues to help provide startup funds for troop activities and supplies. These could range from a few dollars per meeting to a lump sum for the entire school year. It’s completely up to each troop to decide what works best for them to support the activities they want to do.

Money-earning activities: The Mags&Munchies Fall Product Program and the Girl Scout Cookie Program are the primary money-earning activities for a troop—and they’re a hands-on way for girls to learn money management skills that will serve them for the rest of their lives. You’ll learn the ins-andouts of these programs in a separate training.

We know you have more questions about troop finances, and we’ve got answers! Check out the troop finances portion in Volunteer Essentials for the details you’ll need to keep troop business running smoothly.

Authorization Form

This form is to be completed and submitted by troop leaders each year in the fall to provide Girl Scouts of Nassau County with the troop bank account information and to authorize ACH transactions during the Mags&Munchies and Girl Scout Cookie Programs.

The form needs to be signed by two troop volunteers named on the troop bank account. If a troop changes bank accounts, a new form will need to be submitted within five business days.

New Process for 2025-26!

To streamline the process, the troop leader first needs to complete the online form and attach a voided check or account verification letter provided by the bank. Then, enter the second volunteer's name and email, electronically sign, and submit the form. The form will automatically be forwarded via email to the second volunteer, who will also electronically sign and submit, completing the process.

This form is valid for both the 2025 Mags&Munchies and 2026 Cookie Programs.

Scan the QR code or visit bit.ly/gsnc-ACH-Debit-Auth-25-26 to access the 2025–2026 ACH Authorization Form.

Mags&Munchies

Kick off the Girl Scout year with the Mags&Munchies Fall Product Program. The Fall Product Program is a fun, easy way for Girl Scouts to build valuable life and business skills while earning early funds for Take Action projects, activities, supplies, events, and so much more.

Girls can earn amazing rewards and a personalized patch featuring their custom avatar.

Girl Scout Cookie Program

During the program, Girl Scouts invite friends and family to support them by purchasing delicious nuts, chocolates, snacks, and magazines. New this year: tumblers, personalized stationery, scented candles, and even dog toys and treats—perfect for holiday gifting!

ELLM Troop 2109, one of our top-selling Mags&Munchies troops:

• We learned that we can earn a lot of money so that our troop can do exciting things. We are using the proceeds for a sleepover at the science museum and we also went horseback riding!

• Our tip for success: Just ask people if they’d like to buy something! You never know if they will buy, but they won’t if you don’t ask.

The Girl Scout Cookie Program is the largest girl-led entrepreneurial program in the world. Girl Scout Cookies are an important building block for Girl Scouts to follow their dreams. Along with important skills like confidence and relationship building, each package sold will fund their next ambition. Whether they use their sales to spend a night under the stars today or build a rocket to the moon tomorrow, there’s no telling what barrier-breaking experience they’ll unbox next!

Phoenix P. from Troop 1570 on Selling Cookies

• By participating in the Girl Scout Cookie Program, I learned how to handle money, sell products, and improve my math skills.

• My troop’s favorite part of the cookie program was booth sales. I enjoy being with my troop. Practice your sales pitch! :)

• Always be ready to answer questions about the cookies and practice your math!

• Phoenix’s troop used the money they earned from cookie sales to purchase and create costumes to perform a show at their local library for Juneteenth.

Girl Scouts learn five essential skills when they participate in Mags&Munchies

and the Girl Scout Cookie Program

Not only do Girl Scouts dive into entrepreneurship and gain hands-on experiences running their own small business, they also develop the following concrete skills that last a lifetime.

Goal Setting Decision Making

Money Management People Skills Business Ethics

Even with all of that great learning and earning, year after year, Girl Scouts tell us the NUMBER ONE REASON they participate in Mags&Munchies and the Girl Scout Cookie Programs is because they’re FUN!

Council-Led Programs

Council-led programs are organized and vetted by GSNC staff, offered on a specific date, and require troop leaders or parents to register their Girl Scouts on our website.

The majority of program listings now include, in addition to the date, time, location, and appropriate Girl Scout level, information about which badge requirements are fulfilled by attending the program. For some programs, a fun patch may also be included for participating.

Council-led program listings are drop-off programs unless otherwise noted. Parents or caregivers are required to check their Girl Scout in at the program location and return at the end to check them out. For space and facilitation reasons, parents and caregivers are not permitted to stay during the program. GSNC staff and trained volunteers provide supervision and instruction for the girls.

No matter what excites your Girl Scouts, they’ll find engaging and fun activities in the four areas that make up the core of the Girl Scout program:

ENTREPRENEURSHIP

The Girl Scout Cookie Program—the largest girl-led entrepreneurial program in the world— teaches goal setting, decision making, money management, business ethics, and people skills

OUTDOORS

Adventure and skill building, from the backyard to the backcountry, including through camping experiences for all ages

LIFE SKILLS

Civic engagement, healthy living, global citizenship, communication skills— to name a few

STEM

Computer science, engineering, robotics, outdoor STEM, and more

Whether they complete Girl Scout Leadership Journeys or Awards, earn badges, unleash their inner entrepreneur through the Girl Scout Cookie Program, pack for their first hike, change the world through Take Action projects, or any combination of these activities, at Girl Scouts, every girl has countless ways to explore our four program areas and hone the skills they’ll need to power a lifetime of success—whatever that looks like for them.

2025 Mags&Munchies Program

September 26–November 2, 2025

Why Participate in Mags&Munchies?

Participation in this skill-building program assists our community’s youngest Girl Scout entrepreneurs as they continue to make meaningful contributions to their communities while developing tools to be leaders.

This magazine and nuts/snacks program is a rewarding way for troops to earn funds early in the year for Take Action projects, activities, and supplies. Girl Scouts get to practice the five key entrepreneurial leadership skills—Goal Setting, Decision Making, People Skills, Money Management, and Business Ethics—before the Girl Scout Cookie season begins.

Girl Scout Rewards and Troop Proceeds

All of the earnings from the Mags&Munchies program stay in Nassau County and troops earn proceeds while Girl Scouts earn rewards and patches. The Girl Scout reward items are featured on the nut order card. Troops earn up to 13% of all sales, and troops at the Junior-level and up can earn higher proceeds (up to 18%) for their troop by electing to opt out of Girl Scout rewards. Your Troop Mags&Munchies Manager or leader can provide you with information about your troop’s rewards and proceeds selection.

Care to Share Program

All Girl Scouts are encouraged to collect donations for Care to Share (nuts/snacks items for local food pantries). Three $7 donations earn a patch and all donations count toward the nut reward items and troop proceeds. If your child collects 20+ $7 donations, they will earn a moon lamp! Make sure to look at the rewards panel on the nut order card to learn more.

Fit-together

Patches

Look at the rewards panel on the nut order card to learn how to earn them all!

For more information, visit bit.ly/gsnc-magsmunchies or scan the QR code.

Girl Scouts Can Earn Two Patches That Look Like Them!

Girl Scouts and troop volunteers can create their own Me2 avatar. Avatar patches will be mailed directly to each Girl Scout who earns one at the end of each program. Girl Scouts should ensure their correct mailing address is entered in the M2OS system.

Girl Scouts earn a 2025 Mags&Munchies personalized avatar patch by:

• Creating their avatar.

• Sending 18 or more emails through the M2OS system.

• Selling $300 in magazines and/or nuts/snacks items in the 2025 Mags&Munchies program.

Girl Scouts will earn a Cookie Crossover personalized avatar patch by:

• Creating their avatar.

• Sending 18 or more emails through the M2OS system during the 2025 Mags&Munchies program.

• Selling 110 or more packages of cookies during the January initial order time frame for the 2026 Girl Scout Cookie Program.

Traditional Troop Camping Process

Troop Camping has been part of the Girl Scout experience since its inception. Camping is fun and a great way to build new skills and develop a deeper appreciation for nature with your friends. Traditional Troop Camping is planned and carried out by a group of Girl Scouts and their outdoor-trained volunteers and leaders. Your troop will help pick the activities they’ll do, the food they’ll eat, and the new skills or adventures they want to try at camp. Registration is ongoing by season. Tent Units and Troop Houses are available in the spring and fall; Troop Houses are also available in the winter.

Under the guidance of trained and enthusiastic adults, girls may take their first hike, build their first campfire, and sleep under the stars for the first time—so cool!

Traditional Troop Camping Training Requirements:

• An adult who has completed Outdoor Camp Training.

• An additional adult who is currently certified in first aid and CPR.

Outdoor Camp Training is good for three years and then participation in a virtual Camp Update is required.

To learn more about the Outdoor Camp Training options, visit our Volunteer Training page at bit.ly/gsnc-volunteer-resources or scan the QR code.

Once you have an adult who has completed Girl Scouts of Nassau County’s Outdoor Training, and you also have an adult trained in Basic First Aid, you are ready to get started.

Four easy steps:

1. Plan with your girls when you’d like to go camping and whether you prefer a Tent Site or Troop House. Traditional Troop Camping takes place during the winter, spring, and fall seasons. Using the Troop/Group Application Processing Dates and Site Availability Charts, choose a few date options to apply for.

2. Apply for a date by utilizing the Troop/Group Overnight Camp Application. This application needs to be completed and signed by the Outdoor/Camp Trained Adult as well as signed by the Association Camp Consultant or representative before being submitted. Upload or mail completed form and pay the required $50 non-refundable deposit to Girl Scouts of Nassau County prior to requested camp date. You will receive a confirmation packet via email once confirmed.

3. Submit final payment at least one month prior to your camping date.

4. Enjoy your camping trip!

For the troop camping application, deadlines, and fees, visit bit.ly/gsnc-troop-camping.

Along the way, girls will strengthen their public speaking skills—an invaluable asset that will benefit them for years to come.

Program activities may include:

• Developing public-speaking skills and presenting at local events.

• Creating Girl Scout videos.

• Participating in media interviews for TV, radio, print, online publications, or blogs.

• Starring in council media projects and participating in Girl Scout events.

• Serving as Girl Scout reporters at events throughout the year.

Highest Awards Prerequisites

As of July 2025, in an effort to enhance the Girl Scout Experience, improve Highest Awards prerequisites, and expand opportunities to achieve Highest Awards, all Girl Scout Journeys will be retiring, with new Leadership Awards to take their place.

This menu of Leadership Awards will provide more options for the required prerequisites for Bronze, Silver, and Gold Awards! These awards may also be earned separate from a Girl Scout’s Highest Awards endeavors. If your troop has already started working towards a Journey, no worries! Journeys will not be fully retired until October 1, 2026, so girls still have the opportunity to complete them. Starting in July 2025, girls can earn the new Leadership Awards and use one to fulfill Highest Award prerequisites, or use Journeys for one last year.

Join us for a virtual Leadership Awards Update on Monday, October 27, 2025 from 7:00 pm–7:45 pm to learn about the exciting new updates! Register at bit.ly/gsnc-leadership-awards-update or scan the QR code.
