Program listings are vetted by staff employed by GSNC. This includes assuring that sanctioned GSUSA Safety Activity Checkpoints are followed, and that programming is aligned with Girl Scout requirements.

If materials are required for a virtual program, that information and a Zoom link will be sent to you prior to the program.

COUNCIL-LED PROGRAMS Council-led programs are organized by GSNC staff, are offered on a specific date, and require parents or troop leaders to register their Girl Scouts on our website. GSNC staff have organized a schedule of programs for all Girl Scouts in Nassau County to attend!

Most of our Council-led programs are drop-off programs.

Drop-off programs require parents and caregivers to drop their girls at the program location and pick them up once the program has ended. Parents and caregivers are not permitted to stay during the program for space and facilitation purposes. Staff are made available at these programs to provide supervision and instruction for the girls.

HOW TO REGISTER FOR COUNCIL-LED PROGRAMS You can register on the GSNC website or on MyGS. Visit gsnc.org, click on the Programs link and navigate to your program of choice. Once there, click Register to complete the process or you can register on MyGS by visiting mygs.girlscouts.org, then clicking on the Program tab and selecting Find an Event.

Your Girl Scout will not be guaranteed a spot in a program until you have completed the payment process. Spots sitting in the shopping cart are not saved spots. Upon completion, you will receive a confirmation email. This email contains important information such as links, materials required, and rules of conduct. If you do not receive a confirmation email, contact customercare@gsnc.org. A

PAYMENT INFORMATIONFORMATION Payment must be made at the time of program registration.

Cookie Credits Earned by individual girls who sell 300 or more boxes of cookies. Individuals must select Program Credits under Choose Payment Options on the registration page in myGS. In cases of insufficient Cookie Credits, staff will contact you for the remaining balance.

Financial Assistance Girl Scouting is available to every girl regardless of socio-economic status. If you are in need of financial assistance to secure a spot in a program, please fill out the Financial Aid for Program Request Form. Once this form is completed, council will reach out to you.

GSNC Program and Events Cancellation and Refund Policy A full refund will be given for cancellations of any reason fifteen days prior to the program/event by submitting a cancellation email to customercare@gsnc.org. A 50% refund will be issued for cancellations less than fifteen days before the close of registration. No refunds will be issued for cancelling after the close of registration unless due to medical or extenuating circumstances.

Complete an Extenuating Circumstance Refund request form including doctor’s note or pertinent information if needed for review. Full refund will be issued if event is canceled for any reason by Girl Scouts of Nassau County.

PHOTO RELEASE INFORMATION Your Girl Scout can only be photographed at GSNC programs by selecting a Photo Opt In status on her profile in your MyGS account. You can check and edit her profile at any time in your account by logging into your account, clicking on My Household, and editing the profile under your Girl Scout's name. At the bottom of the page, please check off your options including Photo Opt In if you wish your Girl Scout to be photographed at GSNC programs. Save your changes if you make any.

Every renewal year, please remember to check and edit all your profiles in your household when you renew and save your changes.

NON-NASSAU COUNTY GIRL SCOUTS Occasionally non-Nassau County Girl Scouts can attend programs. Please read each individual program listing to determine if non-Nassau County Girl Scouts are permitted to attend the program, and if there is an additional fee required for them to attend. Non-Nassau County Girl Scouts include Girl Scouts from other councils outside of Nassau County, non-registered Girl Scouts, or siblings and friends known as Tag-Alongs.

TROOP-LED PROGRAMS Would you like to coordinate programs specifically for your group? GSNC staff have worked with program partners to offer you a menu of program options with set topics and prices.

Instructions for troop leaders and caregivers to organize their own programs with GSNC program partners: • Review the menu of program options in this guide to see what topics match the interests of your group.

• Work with the program partner to pick a day for your group to have their own program. Some program partners do not have their own venue, and in those cases, the program cannot take place at private residential homes, indoor or outdoor.

• Submit the Local Day Trip Request Application to GSNC Customer Care. This form must be approved by GSNC for the program to take place.

• Market the program to your group and manage registrations.

INFORMATION

• Reach out to the program partner directly with the contact information provided in the program description.

• Fulfill ratio and Safety Activity Checkpoints requirements by ensuring at least two approved Girl Scout adult members accompany Girl Scouts attending as a group.

• Oversee drop-off and pickup at the program.

The show includes his masterworks along with paintings and drawings by his contemporaries Picasso, van Dongen, and Laurencin. At pickup, program families are welcome to explore the 145-acre grounds of the museum.

Roll up your sleeves and enjoy getting your hands dirty with clay, foam, wire, and more as you create your own sculpture! There is no problem you cannot solve and no obstacle you cannot overcome! Perform body weight exercises to gain strength, sharpen your mind by solving puzzles, and work together to complete a timed obstacle course. Learn how to train together as an unstoppable team! Wayfinding and Navigation Before iPhones, people developed multiple ways of finding their way on land and at sea. Step into the world of one fictional navigator who is searching for a treasure in the dunes on Jones Beach. Energy is everywhere! Explore the landscape around the Jones Beach Energy & Nature Center and look for evidence of energy in action. Learn what kinds of energy you can see and those you cannot, and then use scientific instruments to measure different types of energy. Finally, join educators on a tour of our net-zero building and discover how some of the energy you witnessed outside the Center is used to power the spaces within.

Spend time exploring the outdoors while learning how to protect the environment within a certified organic nonprofit farm. Hike the farm and use your observation skills as you learn how to protect nature, birds, and bugs. Practice being kind to nature and each other during your hike. Round out the tour with a seasonal farm chore. Together, build and safely put out a campfire. Troops are welcome to bring supplies for s'mores.

Identify shells based on size, shape, color, and texture. Make the connection between non-living shells and living animals through a story and activity. Get the chance to feel local marine animals in our touch tank at the end of the program.

Discover how Native Americans made and used tools, such as stone-working and woodworking tools, as a means of adapting their environment to meet their life needs. Participants will be able to handle authentic tools and other artifacts and use replicated tools such as mortars and pestles to grind corn, a fire bow for making fire, and pump drill for drilling holes in stone.

Sculpture Lesson: Learn How to Sculpt in the Oldest House in Nassau County

This one-day conference will give Girl Scouts in the grades 5–8 an opportunity to learn and interact with STEM professionals.

With our conference partner and host, Hofstra University, girls will participate in hands-on workshops led by women working in the STEM field. This conference allows our girls to discover, connect, and take action through STEM.

Attention all artists! Roll up your sleeves and enjoy getting your hands dirty with clay, foam, wire, and more as you create your own sculpture! After the lesson, girls and adults are welcome to explore the four-acre Elderfield Preserve and tour the 1675 historic home at no additional cost.

Bronze Award Training This training is designed for Girl Scout leaders and adults who will be guiding girls through the process of earning their Bronze Award. You will learn the ins and outs of what is required, so Girl Scout Juniors see how rewarding it is to make the world a better place, right at home, in their community! The show includes his masterworks along with paintings and drawings by his contemporaries Picasso, van Dongen, and Laurencin. At pickup, program families are welcome to explore the 145-acre grounds of the museum.

What is a Girl Scout Trip, and how do you get ready for it? The Trip Training course will prepare leaders and trip coordinators to bring their troops/groups on any Girl Scout trip or activity. Participants will become familiar with GSUSA Safety Activity Checkpoints, GSNC Policies, Standards, and Guidelines, budgeting, timing, transportation and other topics, so that the event is fun and safe for all.

Outdoor Camp Training GSNC provides Outdoor Training courses to help Girl Scout volunteers prepare themselves and the girls they work with to enjoy outdoor experiences together. Camp guidelines, procedures and program can change. Your camping skills must be updated every three years to enable you to take girls camping. The Camp Update course will review skills, provide up-to-date information on camp materials used, ecology, and environmental guidelines.

Saturday-Sunday, May 4­–5, 2024 8:00 AM Sat–1:00 PM Sun Cost: Mandatory Overnight Training fee to cover cost of food and program supplies is $30 per adult Daycare for your school-age children will be available during the Mandatory Overnight. All children attending will take part in a specially designed camp program during the day, while the adults participate in training. Parents and children will enjoy dinner, evening programs, and overnight accommodations together.

Cost per child will be $20, and includes lunch and program fees.

Registration for children must be done separately by mail. Space is limited and will be assigned on a first come, first served basis as the registration arrives with payment.

Ceremonial Unit Are you interested in learning about flag etiquette while performing community service? We are looking for GSNC Girl Scouts to stand proud as members of the Ceremonial Unit. Learn about the proper care and handling of our flag, flag etiquette, and the important roles each member of a color guard play, then participate in both Girl Scout and Non-Girl Scout flag ceremonies around Nassau County!

Girl Scouts in grades 3–12 are invited to apply online. There will be a required Ceremonial Unit information meeting for girls and their adult on October 9, 2023 from 6:45-7:45 pm at the GSNC Service Center where we will provide details about the year-long program and review the expectations and requirements for participation.

Ceremonial Unit members must wear a full Girl Scout uniform at events and are required to attend two training sessions—one in October and one in March.

Media Girls Are you interested in media and public speaking? We are looking for GSNC Girl Scouts of courage, confidence, and character to join our Media Girls unit.

The program provides girls with hands-on experience in developing communication skills by telling the Girl Scout story while also exploring the ever-changing media environment. Girls will receive special media training to be able to report on council and community events, and share stories with the Girl Scout community and the world.

This program is open to GSNC Girl Scouts in all levels who love Girl Scouts, are outgoing, and not afraid to be in front of a camera.

Program activities may include: Speaking at council events Creating Girl Scout videos Acting as Girl Scout reporters at events throughout the year The online application includes a photo and video submission, questions about yourself, and what you want to learn through this program.

There will also be a required Media Girls information meeting for girls and their adult on October 12, 2023 at 7:00 pm at the GSNC Service Center where we will provide details about the year-long program, and review the expectations and requirements for participation.

In addition, all new Media Girls must attend one session of Media Training 1 and one session of Media Training 2.

Camp Blue Bay 2023 Come to Camp for our Exciting Fall Council Programs!

Novice Camper Weekend | October 13-15, 2023 Are you looking to experience troop camping but haven’t had the opportunity to participate in the required Outdoor Training? We have an opportunity just for you— troops can enjoy a trip to Camp Blue Bay and leaders can participate in the training while at camp. Over the weekend, Girl Scouts will participate in a variety of activities led by volunteers and staff as they learn all about the traditions of Girl Scout camping. Meanwhile, Outdoor Training adults will spend the day learning everything they need to know about Troop Camping from our Outdoor Trainers.

Open to all GSNC Brownie, Junior, and Cadette troops with appropriate adult coverage (adults participating in training will not count toward adult coverage). $60 per person (includes Saturday breakfast, lunch, dinner, snack, and Sunday breakfast) Please note: Adults taking the training will be required to take Virtual Trip Training and attend a pre-plan meeting on September 27, 2023 at the Girl Scout Service Center.
