North Carolina’s 2023 Year of the Trail initiative is strengthened by each local community that joins the effort to bring awareness to and build more opportunities for hiking, biking, walking, running, riding, paddling and horseback riding across our beautiful state. GSCP2P is hosting three N.C. Year of the Trail - Girl Scout Hikes this year. This is an opportunity to build awareness of local trails and the benefits they provide. We will pick up trash and debris along our hike to do our part in leaving a place better than we found it. For additional information about N.C. Year of the Trail, visit greattrailsnc.com.

Troops planning to pitch and sleep in tents OR to camp at a non-council facility will need a Camp License. Requirements are that you hold the Overnight and Activity License and Cook Out Licenses and complete the Tenting skills course.

Service Unit Camporees

What is a Service Unit Camporee? A camporee is defined as a camping experience hosted by a service unit that includes multiple troops from within the service unit. The event needs to be a minimum of 24 consecutive hours. A camporee is planned and carried out by a community of Girl Scouts- troops and adult volunteers – during which a minimum of two all-camp activities are offered to bring together the service unit community. Activities might include earning a patch or badge verifying that the girls improved skills in a certain area, playing a variety of games, having a traditional campfire with skits and s’mores or doing a community service project!

Why have a Service Unit Camporee? Because it’s super fun! A Service Unit Camporee is a great way to get to know other troops, girls and volunteers from a given geographic area and help girls feel more connected to Girl Scouts of all ages beyond their individual troops.

Service units may submit a request through the online submission form at bit. ly/45bX3Cl. Fall camporee dates must be submitted by the second Friday of March and spring camporee dates must be submitted by the last Friday of October.

View our Camporee Guide for more information on camp activities, amenities and reservation procedures at bit.ly/42BuVa7.

Love horses? Come to Circle C Equestrian Center!

Horses Plus Programs

At Circle C Equestrian Center, it’s not just about learning to ride. Horses can also teach us a lot about ourselves and others. This fall, we are offering two new programs for Brownies and Juniors that combine horseback riding taught by our instructors and social emotional learning activities taught by our horses.

Brownie Horses and Empathy Workshop: Saturday, September 30 Junior Horse Connections Workshop: Saturday, November 11

Horseback Archery Patch Program

Circle C Equestrian Center is excited to introduce GSCP2P to a new three-part Horseback Archery patch series! Horseback Archery is an ancient martial skill that is rapidly increasing in popularity in today’s modern world. This sport combines riding, with archery, with the goal of shooting quickly and accurately as the horse travels past the targets.

The Circle C Horseback Archery patch program is designed to introduce participants to horseback archery through a progressive skill building unmounted practice and safety training that will then culminate in a final mounted session and friendly competition. Earn a piece of this three-part patch after each workshop. This program is appropriate for beginner archers and/or riders. We would encourage participants who have never ridden before to take an introductory riding lesson prior to participating in the final Horseback Archery 3 session.

Weekly Lesson Programs

For the Girl Scouts serious about developing their skills as a rider, Circle C has a weekly lesson program that runs September-December and February-May. Students will be placed into small group lessons with similarly skilled riders and lessons will include getting the horse ready to ride and taking care of the horse after the lesson. Circle C has three experienced Riding Instructors, 20 program horses, an indoor arena and trails. Riders will need to be at least seven years old to start weekly lessons. Space for adults is limited to appropriate horses and time availability.

For more information and scheduling, please e-mail

Model Horse Artist Program

This is a unique Circle C Equestrian Center program for any of our artistic horse fans. Circle C is proud to be the home of the local Model Horse Club’s annual horse show, which they’ve named The Circle C Classic. Every year, since 2016, Model Horse enthusiasts from all over the United States have gathered to show their amazing collections of models, from horses you can buy from Breyer to beautiful custom horses sculpted and painted by amazing artists. This year, our Girl Scouts will get a chance to walk through the show, gather inspiration, paint their own model horse and enter it into the show to be judged and awarded.

Healthy View, Healthy YOU is a partnership with our friends at Healthy Blue NC and is all about teaching girls to be resilient, ready and strong. We want girls to reach their highest potential and be able to lift themselves and others up. The purpose of this program is to help girls understand their feelings, how to get help when they need it and how to be a support for other girls.

GSCP2P has made a commitment to mental wellness because we recognize that young people are currently facing a mental health crisis. They are more likely than ever before to attempt suicide, commit self-harm and suffer from depression and anxiety. And yet, people continue to be uncomfortable discussing these issues. This discomfort can be driven by the stigma often associated with mental health. GSCP2P wants to help start the conversation and give Girl Scouts tools and support to better understand and care for their personal well-being.

Ways you can participate:

Girls can participate in a series (one hour per week for six weeks) facilitated by service unit or troop volunteers who have completed Youth Mental Health First Aid certification or have a mental wellness background.

This program was generously funded by Blue Cross Blue Shield and Blue Cross Blue Shield of North Carolina's (Healthy Blue NC's) Healthy Blue Medicaid plan. Blue Cross NC advocates a community approach to health education and outreach activities and has a proven record of collaborating with community and faith-based organizations, advocacy groups and other community resources. Their health education and outreach approach emphasize healthy behaviors, preventative care and wellness. Thanks to the support of Blue Cross NC's Healthy Blue plan, GSCP2P is working toward the larger goals of destigmatizing mental illness, normalizing conversations around mental health and delivering inclusive workshops for Girl Scouts of all backgrounds.

Highest Awards

The Girl Scout Gold Award, Silver Award and Bronze Award prove you’ve got what it takes to build a better today—and tomorrow.

Daisies and Brownies learn the basics of what it means to be a good neighbor and how they can be helpful to others. This gives them the foundation they will need to earn the Girl Scout Bronze Award.

Juniors earn the Girl Scout Bronze Award by teaming up with other girls to make a difference in their towns.

Cadettes earn the Girl Scout Silver Award by researching an issue, making a plan to address it and then taking action to improve their communities.

Seniors and Ambassadors earn the Girl Scout Gold Award—the highest award in Girl Scouting—by developing and carrying out lasting solutions to issues in their neighborhoods and beyond. Gold Award Girl Scouts truly are the world changers, rock stars, role models and real-life heroes we all look up to. Plus, they’re amazing candidates for colleges, scholarships, competitive internship programs and exciting careers.
