Research Facilities Sustainable Aquaponics Research Center Sustainable Aquaponics Research Center (SARC) conducts cutting-edge research and develops technologies to facilitate the sustainability and profitability of aquaponics systems. Aquaponics is an ecology-driven system that combines traditional aquaculture and hydroponics techniques. The greenhouse and SARC faculty have been supporting student and faculty research in Biology, Chemistry, and Engineering since 2016. 4,100 sq ft greenhouse Four 1,800 gallon replicated independent aquaponics systems with 224 sq ft deep water hydroponics grow beds and 900 gallon aquaculture tanks Two 400 gallon project scale aquaponics systems Seedling sprouting supplies and growth equipment Aquaculture and horticulture species determined by research needs Staff support for interdisciplinary research from any grant or course Established harvesting protocols Campus partners include Georgia Department of Natural Resources, SCCPSS, Savannah Hydroponics and Organics, Billy’s Botanicals, Savannah State University, the Center for STEM Education (i 2 STEM ed ) and University of Georgia Extension Service, providing opportunities for interdisciplinary research and community outreach.
