ENHANCING OUR COMMUNITY

Although things don’t grow much during the winter months, Brighter Bridge of Weir works all year round to enhance our community. Even before the Christmas lights went up in mid-December, the spring bulbs were planted and the Group had begun to plan for this summer’s flowers. Orders for these will be placed during February and delivery is usually around mid-May.

It’ll be interesting to see how the plants in the reconstructed Woodland Garden look in their first year. We don’t expect too much, but we’ll be able to judge how to develop it for the future. That’s the thing about what we do – the work is never ‘finished’!

Since 2010 Brighter Bridge of Weir has sourced and planted over 100 street planters, from post-baskets and barrier-baskets to free-standing and tiered planters. The Group also looks after about 1,000 square metres of ‘open ground’ planting, such as the Woodland Garden. Readers may be surprised to know that all of it is maintained – all rear round - by about 10 volunteers. And they could use some help. If you could spare an hour or so every now and then, please get in touch. You don’t need any special skills, just a willingness to enhance our community.
