Bikeability Training
Advertisement
Primary 6 have been taking part in their level 2 Bikeability training. In class, they have been learning how to stay safe when cycling on both minor and major roads. They then put their learning into practice and demonstrated a range of manoeuvres including: safe starts and stops; left hand turns; right hand turns and u-turns.
A huge thank you to our parent volunteers who supported our pupils and to the local residents who displayed caution and courteous driving whilst we were out on the roads.
Skoomobile Visit
All Primary 1 pupils had an exciting trip to the Skoomobile and got their very own book bag to bring home for some bedtime reading.
Scholastic Book Fair
Our pupils have the opportunity to engage in reading for pleasure as part of their daily routine in class. Reading is positively promoted and our pupils demonstrated their love of books when they visited our recent Scholastic Book Fair and made a purchase. We raised an amazing £1,527.38 in commission. This money will be used to purchase new books for our new library, which our pupils helped to design.
Provost Cameron’s Christmas Card Competition
Alexander from Primary 5, entered the annual Christmas card design competition and was delighted to be one of the winners! His design was professionally printed onto cards and sent all around the world. He was also delighted to be given the very important job of switching on the Christmas lights. Provost Cameron was very impressed with Alexander’s design.
Christmas Unwrapped
Primary 6 pupils were invited along to the church hall to take part in ‘Christmas Unwrapped’. Mrs Morrison and her team, shared their knowledge of everything Christmas with our pupils and even engaged in a Christmas version of ‘Who Wants to be a Millionaire’! Our pupils really enjoyed working and learning from members of the Houston community.
Maths Inside Photograph Competition
As part of Maths Week Scotland, our pupils were encouraged to take part in a mathematical themed photography competition. We are delighted to announce that Hope Wilson’s, ‘Seeing Double’ and ‘Spots and Dots’ photographs received First Level Commended and Myla Khouly’s, ‘Perfect Shot’ photograph received Second Level Commended. The photographs were of a very high standard, as were the mathematical links that were made by both pupils.
Outdoor Learning
Primary 3 pupils have been learning how to whittle, cut sticks in half using a saw, make a spark using a flint and steel and light a campfire. They had a wonderful time learning lots of new skills.
