local news JOHNSTONE PHOENIX THEATRE GROUP The performing arts will be one of last the areas to be released for the current COVID-19 lockdown measures. Unfortunately, this means that Johnstone Phoenix Theatre Groups’ Christmas Pantomime Jack & The Beanstalk, will not go ahead this year… “Oh no it won’t!!!” At the present time, virtually all amateur theatre productions have been cancelled across the country, and given the lead time for productions, it is unlikely there will be many, if any, productions before the end of 2021. This is a significant loss to the cultural and economic life of the UK. Like JPTG, many groups have been making use of technology to keep in touch and keep the sprits up of members. Johnstone Phoenix Theatre Groups’ last performance was their 2019 panto Alice in Pantoland and members are divested at being unable to perform Jack & The Beanstalk this year. Here’s a bit of nostalgia – a photograph of the 1993 JPTG Jack and the Beanstalk Panto Not only has Lockdown impacted the club members, but it has also has impacted the Groups’ fundraising and to that end they have set up a Just Giving Page for anyone who’d like to contribute to the continued running of the club. https://www.justgiving.com/crowdfunding/johnstone-phoenix?utm_term=gZQVERBPP In true Phoenix fashion, the Group have risen to the challenges faced this year and are now looking at ways to give something back to the local community during the Festive Period. They are hopeful that they can involve their members in some community activities in the lead up to Christmas. Watch this space!!
