Speaker Meetings at the River Inn Wednesday 18th April -John Blair, “Bridge of Weir Angling Club” John Blair has been the President of Bridge of Weir Angling Club for the past 8 years. The Club is one of Scotland’s oldest angling clubs, having been founded in 1874. It looks after the stretch of the Gryffe River from Quarriers Village to the river bridge in Bridge of Weir. He noted that the growth in commercial salmon farming has resulted in a big drop in salmon numbers coming up the river to spawn - increased sea lice may be the cause. After many varied questions David thanked John for highlighting a popular activity available right on our door step.

Wednesday 25th April - David Shan, Renfrew Rotary “Sikhs and Turbans” David, who is a Sikh, brought greetings from President John of the Renfrew Club, then announced his subject as the tying and wearing of a turban and the reasons for doing so. He gave a fascinating account of the history of Sikhism and how it evolved from Hinduism. He described the variety of turbans and the significance of their various colours. He concluded his talk by showing members what is involved in preparing the length of material required to wind round the head to form a proper turban and enlisted the assistance of his host, Alan, who modelled the headwear very convincingly to the obvious delight of his colleagues!
