Who is the Support Group for the Roşia Montană Mining Project? The Support Group for the Roşia Montană Mining Project is an action committee with a well‐defined goal: to promote throughout the country and Europe all the arguments that demonstrate that the Roşia Montană Project is a necessity for Romania. The Support Group members wish to inform as many people as possible that the Project – an investment with an estimated direct and indirect economic impact of 19 billion USD – brings out a package of modern and efficient solutions for a large number of economic and social problems our country is dealing with. The Support Group members are organizations, institutions and persons that aim to inform the general public, political leaders and specialists in various fields. The project has confronted with some opposition in the last few years, mostly due to a falsified presentation of the real situation in Roşia Montană and distorted information about the implementation of this project. The Support Group members consider that the public opinion must be corrected as soon as possible, by presenting real and accurate information about the project; they will do their best effort to ensure this. At present, the Support Group has 72 members: nongovernmental organizations, city halls, unions, universities and opinion leaders. Its role is to correctly and ethically communicate all necessary information that prove to the specialists and general public that the Roşia Montană Project is a modern, strategic and extremely important project for Romania. The full list of members and their statements can be discovered on their dedicated website: sustinemrosiamontana.ro. The Support Group wishes to promote all arguments that demonstrate that the Roşia Montană project brings no damage for the environment or culture and that, on the contrary, is a source of economic growth and social welfare in an area that acutely needs it.
