Le prime attività risalgono agli anni sessanta, quando il nonno Aldo Bertoldi, imprenditore forte e intraprendente, incentra la propria attività sul mercato dell’importazione ed esportazione di spezie, frutta secca e caffè.

L’apertura dei primi supermercati a marchio Orvea ha lasciato un segno indelebile in Trentino, contribuendo allo sviluppo delle economie locali con un format di vendita non ancora conosciuto. È passato più di mezzo secolo e diverse generazioni si sono succedute; ad oggi la terza generazione è al comando con una nuova holding, Bertoldi Holding.

Le attività di Bertoldi Holding si concentrano nella gestione operativa delle società del gruppo, nell’advisory delle partecipate e nello sviluppo e ricerca di nuovi business, operando e investendo principalmente nei settori della distribuzione alimentare, dell’immobiliare e del fintech, per un mondo digitale migliore, portando avanti con successo iniziative imprenditoriali costruite in oltre sei decenni di esperienza.

The first business activities began in the sixties when our grandfather Aldo Bertoldi, a strong and resourceful businessman, decided to focus his activities in the import and export market of spices, dried fruit and coffee.

The opening of the first Orvea-branded supermarkets left an indelible mark in Trentino, contributing to the development of local economies with a sales format that had not existed before. That was more than half a century ago and several generations have succeeded; nowadays, the third generation is at the helm with a new holding company, Bertoldi Holding. The activities of Bertoldi Holding focus on the operational management of the group’s companies, where it acts as an advisor for the investee companies, and it develops and researches new business models, operating and investing mainly in the food distribution, real estate and FinTech sectors, for a better digital world, successfully moving forward with entrepreneurial initiatives that were built in over six decades of experience.

Aldo Bertoldi decided to bring the international Supermarket model in Trentino.

Il nostro gruppo muove i suoi primi passi attorno agli anni ‘50 grazie ad Aldo Bertoldi, un uomo di grande intuito e visione, dotato di lungimiranza, tenacia e attaccamento al lavoro.

Dimostrava un grande impegno, che poteva trasformarsi in testardaggine, di quella che alle volte evidentemente riesce a creare la scintilla del successo: la caparbietà di Aldo Bertoldi era di quelle capaci di lasciare un’impronta nella storia. Dopo anni di commercio alimentare, in seguito ad un incontro in Francia a metà degli anni ‘50 con il titolare di Carrefour, questo imprenditore decise di portare il modello internazionale del supermarket in Trentino, e il 4 aprile 1959 diede vita ad Orvea, un’insegna che vive ancora oggi.

Aldo Bertoldi nasce a Trento il 30 aprile 1920. Il suo talento commerciale sboccia già in tenera età: da piccolo, infatti, per guadagnare qualche soldo, a dicembre sul sagrato della chiesa vendeva il muschio per i presepi.

Durante la guerra è stato Alpino in Montenegro e Grecia, dove ha perso un fratello.

La sua carriera lavorativa inizia da Oreste Detassis, un’azienda molto nota all’epoca nel campo della distribuzione alimentare; poi si mette in proprio, dedicandosi all’importazione di spezie e frutta secca. Solo successivamente acquisisce l’esclusiva della vendita in Italia dei carrelli per la spesa Caddie, tramite la Srl Aldo Bertoldi, azienda guidata da Fabio, il padre imprenditore di Gianluca e Giacomo, ed entra così nel mondo della grande distribuzione organizzata.

Our group first started around the 1950s thanks to Aldo Bertoldi, a man with great intuition and vision, equipped with foresight, tenacity and who was dedicated to his work. He showed great commitment, which could turn into a kind of stubbornness, the one that at times manages to create that spark of success: Aldo Bertoldi’s dogged nature was what allowed him to leave his mark on history. After years spent in the food trade, as a re-sult of a meeting held in France in the middle of the 1950s with the owner of Carrefour, this businessman decided to bring the international supermarket model to Trentino, and on April 4, 1959 Orvea was born, a brand that still exists today.

Aldo Bertoldi was born in Trento on April 30, 1920. His business acumen blossomed at a tender age, when he was a child, in fact: to earn some money, every December, he was used to sell moss for nativity scenes, in a churchyard. During the war, he fought as an Alpino soldier in Montenegro and Greece, where he lost a brother.

His career began with Oreste Detassis, a company that was well known in the food distribution sector at the time; he then set out on his own, dedicating himself to the import of spices and dried fruit. Only later he acquirde the exclusive rights to the sell of the Caddie shopping trolleys in Italy, as part of Aldo Bertoldi Srl, a company led by Fabio, the entrepreneurial father of Gianluca and Giacomo, whereby he entered into the world of organised large-scale retail.

Storia _ History

Alla fine degli anni ‘50, a seguito di viaggi e incontri all’estero (con i titolari della Caddie e della Carrefour) rimane colpito dalla formula del supermercato, tanto da volerla replicare lui stesso nella sua terra d’origine, progetto che realizza assieme a vari commercianti locali tra cui il socio a lui più vicino Giuseppe Gentilini, con cui fonda la società Or.Ve.A. (acronimo di Organizzazione Vendite Alimentari).

La lista dei soci era composta da ben 28 investitori, tra cui anche Giuseppe e Beniamino Poli, che poco dopo decisero però di percorrere la loro strada, vendendo le loro quote ad Aldo Bertoldi.

Dopo l’inaugurazione nel 1960 del primo negozio nel centro storico di Trento, in via Belenzani, l’azienda inizia a svilupparsi sul territorio e a crescere insieme alla comunità. Passano gli anni e nel 1965 in Corso Rosmini a Rovereto, si apre il primo supermercato della Vallagarina.

Orvea continua costantemente ad aprire punti vendita localizzati in posizioni strategiche, di forte passaggio, molto spesso adatte ad attrarre turisti oltre ai residenti.

At the end of the 1950s, having travelled and attended meetings abroad (with the owners of Caddie and Carrefour) he was impressed by the supermarket formula, so much so that he wanted to replicate it himself in his homeland. A project that he implemented together with various local traders including his closest partner, Giuseppe Gentilini, with whom he founded the company Or.Ve.A. (the acronym stands for Organizzazione Vendite Alimentari [Food Sales Organisation]). The list of partners was composed of no fewer than 28 investors, including Giuseppe and Beniamino Poli, who, however, not long after decided to go their own way, selling their shares to Aldo Bertoldi.

In 1960, after the opening of the first store in Trento’s historical centre, in via Belenzani, the company began to expand throughout the region and to grow together with the community. The years went by and in 1965 in Corso Rosmini in Rovereto, the first Vallagarina supermarket opened its doors.

Orvea steadily continued to open localised stores in strategic positions, with high footfalls, very often in places that attracted tourists as well as local residents.

Arrivano i primi anni 2000 e l’azienda inizia a perdere un po’ della sua floridità. Il fondatore lentamente esce di scena, anche se fino a 92 anni si è sempre presentato in ufficio e nei punti vendita.

Ed ecco la svolta: dopo la scomparsa del nonno, il nipote Giacomo Bertoldi fa il suo ingresso in società a soli 21 anni, nel 2013, quando Orvea attraversava un momento difficile, servivano nuovi investimenti e una nuova organizzazione.

Giacomo (classe ‘91) e il fratello Gianluca (classe ‘86), comprendono che gli spazi di manovra sono stretti, ma al tempo stesso individuano diverse opportunità per far rivivere l’azienda.

Le proposte economiche che gli eredi ricevono sono molteplici, ma tutte interessate prevalentemente alle strutture di vendita, senza alcuna garanzia per il personale.

Giacomo incontra quindi Marcello Poli per capire le prospettive che l’imprenditore, della famiglia storica concorrente del nonno, immaginasse rispetto alla situazione di stallo aziendale e propone di realizzare strategie, trovando in lui un attento interlocutore per dare nuova vita a Orvea.

The early 2000s came and the company began to lose some of its vigour. Its founder began to slowly step back from daily business, even though he always came into the office and visited stores right up to the age of 92.

And that moment became the turning point: once his grandfather had gone, his nephew Giacomo Bertoldi joined the company at the age of 21, in 2013, when Orvea was having a difficult time, it needed new investments and a new organisational model.

Giacomo (born in 1991) and his brother Gianluca (class of ‘86) understood that the operating spaces were tight, but at the same time they were able to identify a number of opportunities to revive the company. The economic proposals that they received were multiple, but all of them focused on the sales structures, without offering any assurances for the company’s employees.

Giacomo then met Marcello Poli to understand the prospects that the businessman, from the family of his grandfather’s historical competitor, foresaw with regard to the companies’ lack of progression and to propose the implementation of business strategies, finding in him an attentive interlocutor in order to bring new life to Orvea.

The store that today we know as IperOrvea in Rovereto, until 2018 it was a kind of cathedral in the desert.

Il progetto si chiamerà, infatti, Orvea 2.0, un progetto nato per mantenere vivo il marchio Orvea, dare una continuità al lavoro del nonno e dare una risposta ai collaboratori che in alcuni casi, da oltre 20 anni, lavoravano con e per l’azienda.

Il negozio che oggi conosciamo come IperOrvea di Rovereto, fino al 2018 era una cattedrale nel deserto: un’enorme struttura che Aldo aveva costruito con l’idea di farla diventare un superstore. Le leggi allora vigenti in tema di regolazione commerciale non lo consentivano, ma la lungimiranza del patron di Orvea lo portò a costruire ugualmente lo stabile, destinandolo, momentaneamente, pensava lui, alla vendita all’ingrosso.

Non ha avuto il tempo per vederlo trasformato in superstore, ma oggi quel sogno si è avverato, e l’IperOrvea di Rovereto è uno dei punti vendita più importanti dell’azienda. Lo stesso sguardo rivolto al futuro lo ha portato negli anni ‘90 ad aprire ad Affi, in una zona apparentemente senza punti di interesse, se non l’uscita dell’autostrada, il primo ipermercato (all’epoca IperAffi, ora IperOrvea): oggi l’area è il fulcro delle attività commerciali con milioni di passaggi ogni anno, all’interno del centro commerciale Grand’Affi, costruito con la famiglia Poggi.

The project would, in fact, be called Orvea 2.0, a project created to keep the Orvea brand alive, to bring continuity to their grandfather’s work while responding to collaborators who in some cases, had been working for and with the company for over 20 years.

The shop we know today as IperOrvea in Rovereto, until 2018 it was some sort of a cathedral in the desert: a huge structure that Aldo had built with the idea of turning it into a superstore.

The laws then in force on the subject of non-commercial regulation could not allowed it, but the foresight of the patron of Orvea led him to build anyway the building, allocating it, momentarily he thought, to a wholesale store.

He didn’t live to see it transformed into a superstore, but that dream has now been realised, and the IperOrvea in Rovereto is now one of the company’s most important stores. In the 90’s, the same, future-oriented outlook led to the opening of the first hypermarket in Affi, in an area seemingly without any points of interest, except for the highway exit. At the time, it was called IperAffi, which is now the IperOrvea: today, the area is a hub for commercial activities with a footfall counted in millions every year, as part of the Grand’Affi commercial centre, built together with the Poggi family.

Storia _ History

Dopo la riorganizzazione della storica società Orvea, i fratelli Bertoldi pensano a nuove opportunità di business.

Mentre portano a termine qualche operazione di sviluppo immobiliare in Trentino, nel 2016 fondano Walliance, il primo portale di investimenti immobiliari online.

Walliance è una piattaforma che propone investimenti nel mercato immobiliare attraverso lo strumento dell’equity e del debt crowdfunding, operando come intermediario tra le Piccole e Medie Imprese che sviluppano progetti immobiliari e persone fisiche, o giuridiche, che vogliono investirvi.

Nel frattempo, seguono vari investimenti nel mondo fintech e alimentare, tra cui Satispay, Banca Aidexa, Pinsami.

Following the reorganisation of the historical Orvea company, the Bertoldi brothers began to think of new business opportunities. While completing some real estate development in Trentino, they founded Walliance, the first online real estate investment platform.

Walliance is a platform which offers investment opportunities in the real estate market through equity and debt crowdfunding instruments, acting as an intermediary between small and medium-sized enterprises that are developing real estate projects and natural or legal persons who want to invest in them. Meanwhile, various investments in the FinTech world and food sector followed, including Satispay, Banca Aidexa, Pinsami.

Il carrello che ha cambiato il mondo: ci piace raccontare del 1940, quando il carrello della spesa fece mostra di sé sul “Saturday Evening Post” accompagnato dal titolo “Il carrello che ha cambiato il mondo”.

Concepito da Sylvan N. Goldman, geniale proprietario di un supermercato dell’Oklahoma, il classico carrello nacque come sfida imprenditoriale finalizzata a moltiplicare il numero degli articoli acquistati dalla clientela.

I prodotti del dopoguerra: qui inizia l’attività di importazione di prodotti “nuovi” per un’Italia del dopoguerra che aveva bisogno di rinascere: fichi secchi e uva sultanina dalla Turchia, prugne secche dalla California, ananas dalla Costa d’Avorio, arachidi dalla Cina, pepe dal Sarawak.

L’intuizione: tra i viaggi e gli incontri, sicuramente quello che ha avuto un’importanza decisiva per la vita professionale di Aldo Bertoldi, fu la partecipazione alla fine degli anni Cinquanta ad un incontro in Francia sul tema della cooperazione con i supermercati, che in Francia rappresentavano un fenomeno in crescita, mentre erano del tutto o quasi sconosciuti in Italia. Da qui nasce con diversi “nuovi imprenditori” Trentini la società per azioni Organizzazione Vendite Alimentari, un nuovo business per il nostro Trentino.

The shopping cart that changed the world: we would like to tell you about 1940, when the shopping cart was presented in the “Saturday Evening Post” accompanied by the title “The cart that changed the world”.

Conceived by Sylvan N. Goldman, a brilliant supermarket owner in Oklahoma, the classic cart was born as an entrepreneurial challenge aimed at multiplying the number of items purchased by customers.

Post-war products: this is where the import business for “new” products began for a postwar Italy that needed to begin afresh dried figs and sultanas from Turkey, dried prunes from California, pineapples from from Ivory Coast, peanuts from China, pepper from Sarawak.

Intuition: between travel and meetings, the one moment that definitely was of decisive importance for Aldo Bertoldi’s professional life was his participation, at the end of the fifties, in a meeting held in France on the subject of cooperation with supermarkets, which in France represented a growing phenomenon, while they were completely or almost completely unknown in Italy. This is where the joint-stock company Organizzazione Vendite Alimentari [Food Sales Organisation], a new business for our Trentino was created in collaboration with several “new entrepreneurs” from Trentino.

Già allora oltre 7.500 m2 di superficie, 30.000 articoli in assortimento e una grande soddisfazione.

Oggi è uno dei negozi più performanti della rete.

Ridefinizione degli obiettivi: dopo più di mezzo secolo passato a gestire attività ordinarie e una catena di supermercati che doveva colmare un divario competitivo, abbiamo iniziato a perseguire nuove attività e la terza generazione della famiglia con Gianluca e Giacomo ha rilevato le attività vendendo alcuni business collaterali ritenuti non necessari. Bertoldi Holding decide in quell’anno di investire più di dieci milioni di euro nello sviluppo del gruppo.

Digitalizzazione immobiliare con una mentalità Fintech: nasce Walliance, la prima piattaforma italiana di crowdfunding immobiliare che prende vita per sconvolgere l’intero settore del Real Estate.

Con più di 55.000 utenti, ad oggi ha finanziato con oltre 65 milioni di euro 40 operazioni immobiliari.

Oggi il Fintech è uno dei principali target del gruppo.

Il mondo è completamente cambiato, le modalità di consumo sono state quasi del tutto spazzate via da un mondo digitale.

Understanding the need of the market and developing them: the search for new products and new services led Aldo Bertoldi to travel the world and to bring as much of it back to Italy as the internal market desired.

The meeting with two people, namely Marcel Fournier, owner of Carrefour and Marc Joseph, owner of Caddie France, a company manufacturing shopping trolleys, immediately led to a new idea.

Shortly thereafter, the Caddie trolley entered Italian supermarkets.

The hypermarket in the desert: let’s open the first hypermarket in the OrveaGroup under the “IperAffi” name (now IperOrvea), near Verona.” Even then, it offered an area of over 7,500 m2, a range of 30,000 items and great customer satisfaction.

Today, it is one of the best performing stores in the network.

Setting new goals: after more than half a century spent managing standard business activities and a chain of supermarkets, we had to close a competitive gap, so we started to pursue new activities, and the third generation of the family with Gianluca and Giacomo took over the business by selling some collateral businesses they deemed unnecessary.

It was during that year that Bertoldi Holding decided to invest more than ten million euros in the Group’s development.

Real estate digitisation with a FinTech mentality: Walliance is born, the first Italian platform for real estate crowdfunding was created to redefine the entire real estate sector. With more than 55,000 users to date it has financed 40 real estate operations with more that 65 million euros.

Today, Fintech is one of the Group’s main objectives.

The world has changed completely, the ways in which we consume have been almost completely swept away by a digital tide.

To continue our growth in the coming years and beyond, we must look ahead, understand which trends and forces will shape our company in the future and move quickly to prepare us for what is yet to come.

Capire le necessità del mercato e svilupparle: la ricerca di nuovi prodotti e nuovi servizi ha portato Aldo Bertoldi a girare il mondo e a portare in Italia quanto il mercato interno richiedeva.
