This award means a lot to the Terras Gauda Group family, because we received it in Bordeaux, the cradle of one of the most prestigious wine-growing regions in the world, and it comes only five short years after our debut in La Rioja. It is immensely satisfying in light of the great commitment we have made to the Compañía de Vinos Heraclio Alfaro, creating wines with our trademark; namely, setting ourselves apart from the rest, even in the leading Spanish designation of origin, with enormous international renown.".

LA MARAGATA

GODELLO

We are thrilled to present our first white wine from Bodegas Pittacum, created from Godello grapes, with a limited production of 3,950 bottles. It originates in a high-altitude vineyard situated 720 meters above sea level, at the foot of the Aquilian Mountains in the southeastern part of the El Bierzo Region. It is a legendary vineyard, crossed by the trail used by the Maragatos muleteers, the very traders commemorated in the brand name:

LA MARAGATA. Traditions are reflected in a classic label design, the top of which calls to mind the mountain peaks of its origins. It is a wine tremendously rooted in its land and the history it treasures.

PRODUCTION AND AGING | We harvest

the Godello grapes at an advanced state of maturity, favoring the varietal bouquets and the sugar concentration. At the winery, they are pressed stemmed and with very little maceration, together with the skins.

The clean must is fermented in new oak casks at a temperature of between 20 and 22 ºC. During the first few months of aging, which takes place over the course of a year, the lees are placed in suspension every 15 days.

VINTAGE 2018 | In appearance, it has a bright lemon-yellow color. On the nose, citrus notes emerge, accompanied by toasted hazelnut, which comes from the cask aging. Once it breathes a bit in the glass, it becomes more intense, and aromas of ripe fruit, peach, dried apricots, pineapple and wood notes appear, fading into the fruity background.

On the palate, it leaves a pure smooth and silky sensation, flowing towards the end with both volume and structure. Neat throughout its passage, the balance of aromas, sweetness and acidity is quite pleasant. In concludes with an enjoyable acidity that persists and is accentuated as it settles in the glass, resulting in a fresh sensation.

The harvest at La Maragata

"This vineyard is the source of our godello. At the foot of it is a trail referred to since ancient times as the Maragatos route. The Maragatos muleteers used it to transport the wine from El Bierzo to other neighboring regions of the province.

The route was not an easy one, as it had to cross the impressive snow-capped mountains seen in the distance. To help recover the memory of these traders, we have chosen La Maragata as the name for both the parcel and the wine.”

One of the characteristics of the Caíño Blanco grape, grown in this vineyard, is its immense capacity to bring out the best characteristics of the terroir, so that the schist, the nearby Miño River and the Atlantic influence all become noticeable.

15

The first buds sprout with the arrival of spring. We give painstaking care to each plant to achieve optimal flowering.

Spring sets the rhythm by which the vineyard shakes off the lethargy of winter. Poppies invade the grounds at Quinta Sardonia.

It is at this time that we unearth the cow horns with the organic mixture we use as a potent natural activator in our vineyards.

The first buds emerge in April in Sardón de Duero.
