Mexico’s 460+ industrial parks, with 128 more planned by 2030, are adopting solar energy as a key driver of competitiveness and sustainability in the context of nearshoring. With industries consuming over 60% of the country’s electricity, solar generation and battery storage (BESS) help reduce costs, cut CO₂ emissions, and meet ESG standards, though clean energy currently covers only 1.2% of demand. Industrial leaders in Querétaro are calling for urgent alternatives to ensure reliable electricity supply, as frequent blackouts disrupt production, damage equipment, and raise costs. Francisco Beltrán of Canacintra highlighted the need for greater investment in transmission and distribution infrastructure by CFE, though such projects are costly and complex. As a solution, industries propose expanding distributed generation limits—currently capped at 0.7 MW—to allow companies to produce more of their own energy through solar, gas, or other sources, easing pressure on the grid.
