É também nesta fase que Aníbal e Idalina regressam à escola. Começaram com o processo de RVCC (Reconhecimento, Validação e Certificação de Competências) e passaram depois pelo Politécnico de Leiria, onde fizeram um CET (Curso de Especialização Tecnológica) - ele de condução de obra e ela de práticas administrativas e relações públicas. Seguiu-se a licenciatura, ambos em Gestão, Idalina no Politécnico de Leiria e Aníbal no Politécnico de Tomar, que acabariam por abandonar, depois de concluído o primeiro ano, quando a empresa estava a avançar em força para a internacionalização e exigia deles toda a disponibilidade possível. “Fiquei a admirá-los ainda mais. Reconheceram que havia coisas que não dominavam e foram apreender, para levar o barco para a frente”, confessa a filha mais velha. Depois de concluídas as licenciaturas, tanto Ana como Daniela, tiveram experiências no estrangeiro, a primeira fez Erasmus na Alemanha e a segunda tirou o mestrado em Itália. A ideia, explicam, era “conhecer novas realidades” e “explorar” possíveis oportunidades. A estas opções os pais reagiram com naturalidade. “Fizemos sempre questão de as deixar fazer as suas escolhas”, garante Idalina Rodrigues, sem, contudo, esconder o “orgulho” por as sentir, hoje, “motivadas a ficar”. A entrada de Ana na empresa aconteceu em 2014, depois de goradas as expectativas de se radicar em Berlim, onde tinha estado como aluna de Erasmus. “Não é fácil começar a vida naquela cidade. O custo de vida é elevadíssimo e não senti que existissem muitas oportunidades”, conta. Naquela altura havia uma vaga para estágio no departamento de metalomecânica da AOC, que aceitou de imediato, “porque estava ligada à produção”, uma área pela qual ganhou gosto durante a licenciatura. Entretanto, a pessoa que estava a dirigir o departamento saiu e Ana foi desafiada a ocupar o lugar. “Era inegável o gosto dela pela área.

The idea, they explain, was to ‘broaden their horizons’ and ‘explore’ possible opportunities. Their parents were relaxed about their choices. ‘We always made a point of letting make their own decisions,’ says Idalina Rodrigues, without, however, hiding her ‘pride’ that today they are ‘motivated to stay’. Ana joined the company in 2014 when her expectations of settling in Berlin, where she had been an Erasmus student, were disappointed. ‘It’s not easy to start a life in that city. The cost of living is very high and I didn’t feel that there were many opportunities,’ she recalls. At the time, there was an opening for an internship in the metalworking department at AOC, which she immediately accepted because ‘it was linked to production’, a field she developed a taste for during her degree.
