The then-head of sales at Auto-Leiria says that the deal was ‘a nine-seat Ford, already old, which had belonged to American Stationery but which did its job very well’. It would be the beginning of a long professional and personal relationship, which continued until Luis Porém transferred to Bomcar (BMW dealership) and which still continues to this day. It was AOC that built the Bomcar premises next to the Marinha Grande bypass. ‘He came to ask me if he could give me a quote and I said yes. He came back with a quote of 1,500 contos [€7,500] below what we had. We decided, me and my partner, to bet on the kid [Aníbal was then 25 years old]. We had no regrets. He fulfilled everything we had agreed,’ says José Rodrigues.

É aqui que Aníbal Cristina conhece José Rodrigues, naquele tempo um dos mais influentes construtores em atividade na cidade do Lis, para quem viria a fazer a sua primeira obra como empreiteiro geral: o lote 9 da Avenida Marquês de Pombal, em Leiria. “Veio perguntar-me se podia dar preço e eu disse-lhe que sim. Apareceu-nos com um valor de 1.500 contos [7.500 €] abaixo do que tínhamos. Decidimos, eu e o meu sócio, apostar no miúdo [Aníbal tinha então 25 anos]. Não nos arrependemos. Cumpriu com tudo o que tínhamos acordado”, conta José Rodrigues. O negócio ficou fechado na véspera do casamento de Aníbal e Idalina, por “89 mil contos [cerca de 450 mil euros]”. Foi nessa obra que Aníbal Cristina conseguiu o alvará, na altura ainda em nome individual, e adquiriu a primeira grua e a central para execução do betão. O transporte dos trabalhadores, do tijolo e do cimento para a obra estava a cargo de Idalina, que assegurava ainda a parte administrativa. Por essa altura, a empresa, que tinha então perto de 30 trabalhadores, comprou também sua primeira carrinha para transporte de pessoal, que lhe foi vendida por Luís Porém. O então chefe de vendas da Auto-Leiria conta que o negócio se fez com “uma Ford de nove lugares, já com uns bons anos, que tinha pertencido à Papelaria Americana, mas que cumpriu muito bem a sua missão”. Seria o início de uma longa relação profissional e pessoal, que se prolongou quando Luís Porém se transferiu para a Bomcar (representante da BMW) e que perdura até aos dias de hoje. Foi, aliás, a AOC que construiu as instalações da Bomcar junto à variante da Marinha Grande.
