OLSZTYN – A CITY WITH POTENTIAL
Olsztyn is a city open to business, new investment and entrepreneurship development. The key branches which the current city development focuses on are: the BPO and IT sectors and the high quality food (one of the regional intelligent specializations).
LOCATION OF THE CITY Olsztyn is the largest city in the region and simultaneously its main economic, educational and cultural center. The city houses the seats of government and the most important institutions of the North-Eastern Poland, ie.: the Governor, the Marshal, the Mayor and the District Governor of Olsztyn Poviat. The city is also a social, cultural and economic center of the region. Olsztyn is a municipal district (a city with county rights), bordering with the following municipalities: Dywity, Barczewo Purda, Stawiguda, Gietrzwałd and Jonkowo. As a focal point of the region, Olsztyn influences other local authorities of the voivodeship and sets the course and trends of economic development.

Over the recent several years there is a considerable improvement of Olsztyn’s accessibility to key Polish
and foreign cities. In 2016 there was a regional, international airport launched in Szymany near Szczytno and in 2019 expected to be opened there is the southern ring road within the section of the national road No. 16 Grudziądz-Ogrodniki and the expressway S51 Olsztyn-Olsztynek, constituting a direct connection between the regional capital and the express road S7 Gdansk-Rabka Zdrój.
URBAN SPACE CHARACTERISTICS There is no administrative district division in Olsztyn, there are however 23 housing estates located there. Over the years the city functional and spatial structure has been adjusting to natural terrain conditions. Olsztyn is located in the Łyna River valley, dividing the city along the North-South axis into two parts of relatively equal areal.
