Bonjour 2018, en espérant que tu sois une année enrichissante
pour nous tous – Je sais, un bon moment s’est écoulé depuis la sortie du dernier numéro. Mais je peux expliquer la raison pour laquelle il nous a fallu si longtemps pour revenir avec du nouveau contenu. Au cours de ces derniers mois, j’étais déterminée à atteindre une étape majeure de l’histoire de GRUMPY: avoir nos toutes premières photos originales. Entre les cours, j’ai appris à rassembler une équipe et ai été amenée à échanger des idées avec des créatifs pour donner vie à des projets artistiques. Bien que je ne faisais que piloter tout cela depuis Paris, cela a probablement été l’une de mes plus belles expériences jusqu’à maintenant. Il n’y a pas de meilleurs sentiments que de s’impliquer dans un processus collaboratif aux côtés de personnes dévouées et passionnées. Ainsi, il était important pour moi de privilégier la qualité à la quantité. Cela étant dit, ce numéro d’Hiver 20172018 représente une phase importante de la quête de notre identité visuelle et je suis vraiment heureuse du résultat. Je suis impatiente de vivre une nouvelle année à vos côtés et je voulais exprimer ma gratitude envers mon équipe, incroyables collaborateurs et affectueuse communauté qui rendent notre voyage extraordinaire chaque jour. Je sens que 2018 va être rempli de surprises et d’aventures magiques.
H
ello 2018, may you be a gratifying year for all of us – I know, it has been a while since we release the last issue. But there is a reason why it took us so long to come back with fresh content. For the past few months, I’ve been working on reaching another important milestone in GRUMPY’s story: getting our very first original photos. Between classes, I learnt how to bring a crew together and I got to exchange ideas with creatives to bring some artistic projects to life. Although I was only coordinating all this from Paris, it’s probably one of my greatest life experiences so far. There is no better feeling that getting involved in a whole collaborative process with devoted and passionate people. Therefore, it was important to me to focus on the quality before the quantity. That being said, this Winter 2017-2018 issue is huge step in the pursuit of our visual identity and I’m so happy with the outcome. I’m truly excited to live a new year by your side and I wanted to state my gratitude to my incredible team, contributors and loving community who make our journey unbelievable every single day. I feel like 2018 will be full of surprises and magical adventures.

eet Kelsey Maggart, this American 22-year-old portrrait photographer from Indiana. Through her unique vision, Kelsey perfectly knows how to spotlight her models and create stunning scenes, playing with lights and natural elements. Her photos are fresh, youthful, and fancy. As part of the new generation of digital artists, Kelsey draws her inspiration from the big names in the industry like Brandon Woelfel who gave a new boost to the photography world. ‘‘He is actually the reason that I got into photography to begin with,’’ she told us.

Comment as-tu atterri dans la photographie? Est-ce une passion qui t’a toujours suivie?
How did you first get into photography? Is it a passion that has always followed you?
J’ai pris un cours de photographie au lycée, et je n’aimais pas vraiment cela jusqu’à ce que je m’y attelle de mon plein grès. J’ai toujours été dans les arts, et à l’origine je voulais être graphiste. Et je suis accidentellement tombée amoureuse de la photographie et cela ne s’est jamais arrêté.
I took a photography class in high school, and I didn’t really love it until afterwards when I tried it on my own. I’ve always been into art, I wanted to be a graphic designer originally. And I accidentally fell in love with photography, and never stopped.
Ton travail s’articule principalement autour de la photographie lifestyle et des portraits. Comment décrirais-tu ton style et ta personnalité en tant qu’artiste?
Your work is mainly focused on lifestyle and portrait photography. How would you describe your style and yourself as an artist?
Je me considérerais comme une photographe portraitiste. Les shoots que j’ai le plus aimé faire sont plus des éditoriaux.
I would consider myself a portrait photographer. The shoots that I’ve loved the most are definitely more editorial.
Es-tu d’accord avec l’idée qu’un style photographique reflète la personnalité du photographe? As-tu rencontré des difficultés pour trouver ton propre style?
Do you agree with the idea that a photographic style reflects the photographer’s personality? Was it a tough step for you to find your own style?
Oui je crois que votre personnalité est beaucoup retransmise dans votre travail. Trouver mon style n’a pas été vraiment compliqué pour moi, car je connaissais le type de photographie j’aimais le plus avant de commencer.
Yes I think who you are shines through a lot in your work. It wasn’t really tough for me to find my style, because I knew the type of photography that I liked the most before I started.

Do you yourself have artists or photographers you look up for guidance?

London Calling S
i je devais nommer ma ville préférée dans le monde, Londres serait probablement dans mon top trois, si ce n’est à la première place. Quand vous vous échappez d’une ville comme Paris pour vous rendre dans la capitale britannique pour un week-end ou plusieurs jours, vous avez l’impression de respirer un nouvel air. Et ce n’est pas parce que Londres est l’une des villes les plus vertes d’Europe. Mais la gentillesse de ses habitants vous fera sourire, les activités que la ville a à offrir vous occuperont sans cesse, et vous serez impressionnés par l’architecture victorienne et le charme britannique des environs. En plus de cela, Londres est animée par des années et des années d’histoire. Tout autour de vous aura une histoire à raconter. La ville est certainement pleine de vie avec ses nombreux artistes talentueux donnant vie aux rues et aux stations de métro. Quand vous entendez un jeune musicien reprendre vos groupes favoris avec son violon près d’Harrods, vous n’avez d’autres choix que de vous arrêtez quelques instants pour écouter ses douces notes.

f I had to name my favorite city in the world, London would probably be in my top three, if not at the first place. When you escape from a city like Paris to go to the British capital for a weekend or several days, you feel like a breath of fresh air, not only because London is known for being the most green city of Europe. But the kindness of its inhabitants will make you smile, the activities the town has to offer will never get you bored, and you will simply be impressed by the Victorian architecture and the British charm of the surroundings. In addition to that, London is animated by years and years of history. Everything around you will have a story to tell. It is for sure a city full of life with its plethora of talented artists bringing the streets and underground stations to life. When hearing a young musician doing special covers of your favorite bands with his violin near Harrods, you have no choice but to stop by him a few minutes to listen to his lovely notes.
Décrire Londres en quelques mots inclurait: taxis noirs ainsi que bus et cabines téléphoniques rouges, juste pour nommer les choses les plus courantes. Vous avez aussi les attractions principales comme Big Ben, le London Eye qui vous propulsera à des centaines de mètres au-dessus du sol et vous montrera la ville du ciel, quand ce n’est pas trop nuageux. Il y a également de nombreux musées comme la National Gallery, le Tate Modern, et Madame Tussauds où vous rencontrerez vos personnalités préférées en cire. Les détails sont vraiment impressionnants. Cependant, se perdre dans les rues et quartiers de Londres situés à l’écart de la foule est 100% plus agréable. En vous éloignant des principaux axes, vous trouverez des endroits chaleureux comme le café Borough Barista près de Marble Arch. Et une promenade paisible autour de Notting Hill et du Holland Park vous fera encore plus aimer la ville.
Describing London in a few words would include: black taxis as well as red buses and phone boxes, just to name the most common things. You still have the main attractions like Big Ben, the London Eye that will throw you thousands of meters above the ground and show you the city from the sky, when it’s not too cloudy. There are also a lot of museums like the National Gallery, the Tate Modern, and Madame Tussauds where you will meet your favorite people built in wax. Details are really impressive. However, getting lost in the London streets and areas located far from the usual crowd is one hundred percent more pleasant. By going away from the common paths, you will find cosy spots like the Borough Barista near Marble Arch. And a peaceful walk around Notting Hill and Holland Park will make you fall even more in love with the city.
Malgré le temps qui est loin d’être paradisiaque, Londres est un lieu qui vous époustouflera chaque fois que vous le visiterez. Car vous n’arrêtez jamais de découvrir de nouvelles facettes de la ville, que vous soyez un local ou simplement un touriste en vacances. Grâce au réseau de transport d’aujourd’hui, j’ai la chance de vivre à seulement deux heures de là. Le fait est que je considère presque Londres comme une seconde maison, mon havre de paix.
Despite the weather that is far from being idyllic, London is a place that will blow you away every time you will visit it. Because you never stop discovering new sides of the city, whether you are a local or just a tourist on holidays. Thanks to today’s transport network, I am lucky to live only two hours away from there. The fact is that I almost consider London like my second home, my safe heaven.

O
n November 28th, 2017 American film studio 21st Century Fox released the longawaited trailer for the movie Love Simon. This movie is based off the book better known as Simon vs. the Homo Sapiens Agenda by Becky Albertalli. And believe me if you were anywhere on social media that day you could not have missed the outstanding reaction to the trailer of this movie adaptation. So why was the reaction so big? Why did it hit one million views in less than a day? These are questions I do not currently have the answers to, but from the insane amount of responses on social media, I can give you some of my educated guesses.
e 28 novembre 2017, le studio américain 21st Century Fox a révélé la bandeannonce tant attendue du film Love Simon. Ce long-métrage est adapté du livre Moi, Simon, 16 ans, Homo Sapiens de Becky Albertalli. Et croyezmoi si vous étiez sur les réseaux sociaux ce jour-là, vous n’avez pas pu manquer l’incroyable réaction à la bande-annonce de cette adaptation cinématographique. Alors pourquoi la réaction était-elle si importante? Pourquoi a-t-elle récolté un million de vues en moins d’un jour? Ce sont des questions auxquelles je n’ai pas la réponse, mais en partant du nombre impressionnant de réponses sur les réseaux sociaux, je peux vous donner quelques unes de mes suppositions éclairées.
Commençons avec le remarquable casting incluant Nick Robinson (Everything, Everything, Jurassic World), Katherine Langford et Miles Heizer (13 Reasons Why), et Keiynan Lonsdale (The Flash, DC: Legends of Tomorrow) qui vont jouer des personnages auxquels des milliers de jeunes de la communauté LGBTQ+ pourront se rattacher. Il s’agit sans aucun doute d’une des principales raisons pour lesquelles le battage médiatique de ce film est fort.
Starting with the remarkable cast including Nick Robinson (Everything Everything, Jurassic World), Katherine Langford and Miles Heizer (13 Reasons Why), and Keiynan Lonsdale (The Flash, DC: Legends of Tomorrow) who will be playing characters that thousands of LGBTQ+ youth will be able to relate to. It’s is no doubt one of the main reasons the movie hype is extremely high.
En plus du casting phénoménal et des ventes massives du livre, sans oublier les récompenses, je crois personnellement que la principale raison de cet engouement qui se propage comme une traînée de poudre est le fait que nous n’avons auparavant jamais eu de comédie romantique gay sur grand écran. Comprenez-moi bien, la télévision a parcouru un très long chemin au cours des dernières années en mettant des personnages LGBTQ+ au centre de leurs shows. Quelques exemples que je peux donner incluent Magnus Bane et Alec Lightwood de la série Shadowhunters, Connor Walsh, Oliver Hampton, et Annalise Keating de Murder. Évidemment, Disney a marqué l’histoire avec Andi Mack et leur premier personnage gay au coeur d’un show pour les enfants. Nul doute que tous ces personnages ont aidé des milliers de personnes à trouver un exutoire, et je suis sûre que Love Simon ne sera pas différent. Qu’il s’agisse de mettre un arc-enciel dans la légende d’une photo Instagram, ou de faire votre coming out lors d’un dîner avec votre famille, cela peut toujours paraître terrifiant surtout lorsque vous êtes incertains des positions des gens de votre quotidien sur le sujet. Ce sentiment de solitude est exactement la raison pour laquelle ce film est si important et devrait sortir au cinéma dans le monde entier. Être vulnérable est effrayant peu importe que ce soit autour d’amis, de famille, de collègues ou d’étrangers. Ce n’est jamais un bon sentiment. Simon n’a pas tort sur ce point, mais savoir que vous avez une communauté en dehors de votre cercle intime à laquelle vous appartenez est toujours réconfortant. Et Simon va être une nouvelle source de confort. Un confort dont son propre personnage a besoin. Les films tels que Love Simon sont une manière spéciale de montrer que vous n’êtes pas seuls, et qu’il y a des millions de personnes comme vous.
Peu importe le chemin que nous avons parcouru à la télévision, il reste encore beaucoup à faire. C’est toutefois un début merveilleux. J’espère que Love Simon montrera aux producteurs et réalisateurs qu’être gay n’est pas un sujet qui devrait être ignoré. J’espère également qu’il montrera aux jeunes adolescents qu’ils sont parfaitement normaux. Est-ce que tu te sens bizarre? Oui, et parfois je ressens toujours cela. Mais avec Simon, nous célébrons le début d’une chose à laquelle je suis très heureuse d’assister.
Besides the phenomenal cast and how well the book has done in selling, not to mention awards, I personally believe the main reason the movie adaption is spreading like a wildfire is simply that we have never had a gayromcom before on the big screen. Now don’t get me wrong, television has come a very long way in the recent years with having LGBTQ+ characters being at the center of their shows. A few examples I can give include Magnus Bane and Alec Lightwood from Freeform’s hit show Shadowhunters, Connor Walsh, Oliver Hampton, and Annalise Keating from ABC’s How to Get Away with Murder. Of course, Disney made history with Andi Mack, having their first gay character be at the center of what would be considered a kid’s show. There is no doubt that all of these characters have helped thousands of people find an outlet, and I’m sure Love Simon will be no different. Whether it’s simply putting a rainbow in your caption for an Instagram photo, or coming out to your family at dinner, it can always be terrifying especially if you are unsure on where certain people in your everyday life stand on the community. That alone is exactly why this movie is so important and should be put in theaters across the world. Being vulnerable is scary no matter if it is around friends, family, co-workers, or strangers. It is never a good feeling. Simon is not wrong there, but knowing you have a community you belong to outside of your inner circle is always comforting. And it seems like Simon is going to be a new source of comfort. A comfort that his own character most likely desperately needs. Movies such as Love Simon are a special way of showing you are not alone, and that there are a million other people just like you. No matter how far we have gotten in television, we still have a long way to go. This is a wonderful start though. I hope Love Simon will show producers and directors alike, that being gay isn’t a topic that should be ignored. I also hope it will show young teens that they are perfectly normal. Do you ever feel weird? I did, and sometimes I still do. But with Simon, here’s to the start of something I couldn’t be more thrilled to witness.

At only twelve years-old, Asia is an accomplished dancer, actor, singer and songwriter, as well as a digital influencer. With roles on Grey’s Anatomy and the documentary series American Crime Story: The People v. O.J. Simpson, Asia inspires groups, well beyond her years. Recently, Asia also released her single “Come Along”, which has over one million views on YouTube, and she has performed on the same stage as Mariah Carey at the Beacon Theater in New York City. She has earned an enormous following on Instagram, Twitter, YouTube, Facebook, and Snapchat, where she spreads nothing but positivity.

With help from songwriter, Lauren Evans, Asia was hoping to write a song which inspired people to produce a difference, and make the world a better place. “I wanted Come Along to be a song that encourages other girls and boys of all ages to make a change and help out, big or small.”

Dancing is my life, and I think definitely, when I can incorporate my dancing into my acting or my singing, it brings out my mood.”

Dylan Schmid Words by Jasmine Perrier
L
e 22 décembre 2017, nous avons passé du temps avec l’acteur canadien et nouvelle figure de l’industrie du cinéma Dylan Schmid, qui a voyagé de Vancouver à Los Angeles pour passer une journée sous le soleil californien. Après avoir visité les studios de KTLA dans la matinée, il nous a retrouvés près de l’installation artistique ‘‘Urban Light’’ au musée d’art du comté de Los Angeles
Originaire de Vancouver, surnommée l’Hollywood du Nord pour le rôle qu’elle joue dans les tournages de productions américaines en Colombie-Britannique, Dylan Schmid est né au bon endroit pour poursuivre une carrière dans l’interprétation. Il n’avait que six ans, lorsqu’il a trouvé sa voie et a rejoint deux courts-métrages d’étudiants. Appréciant se mettre dans la peau d’autres personnes, sa famille l’a soutenu pour qu’il parte à la conquête de ses rêves. Dès cet instant, il est passé du tournage d’un pilote d’une mini-série appelée ‘‘Gibson Gus’’ à un rôle récurrent dans le show phare Once Upon A Time pour incarner la version enfant de Baelfire. Un rôle qui a changé la vie de Dylan. En 2013, il a également conquis les grands écrans du monde entier dans le film d’Alexandre Aja Horns aux côtés de Daniel Radcliffe et Max Minghella. A seulement 18 ans, Dylan n’a certainement pas le temps de s’ennuyer et a développé une carrière extrêmement brillante. Notamment en 2017, il a participé à deux remarquables projets: la série Shut Eye dont la saison 2 est sortie début décembre sur Hulu et le thriller 1922, une adaptation sur Netflix de la nouvelle de Stephen King avec Thomas Jane dans le rôle principal. A travers ces deux productions, Dylan est tombé sur des rôles intenses liés à de profondes histoires pleines de montagnes russes émotionnelles qui ont sans aucun doute amené son jeu vers un nouveau niveau et qui lui ont permis d’entrevoir de nouvelles perspectives de notre société. Ainsi, nous pouvons dire que 2017 a été une belle année pour Dylan qui a eu l’occasion de peaufiner son projet professionnel. Plutôt visuel, il prévoit de poursuivre son travail dans l’industrie cinématographique. A l’heure actuelle, Dylan reste concentré sur ses projets personnels et nous a récemment fait part d’un mystérieux projet sur lequel il a travaillé avec sa co-star de 1922, Kaitlyn Bernard.

O
n December 22nd 2017, we hanged out with Canadian actor and newcomer Dylan Schmid, as he flew from Vancouver to Los Angeles to spend a wild day in sunny California. After visiting KTLA studios in the morning, he met up with us around the ‘‘Urban Light’’ art installation at the Los Angeles County Museum of Art.
Originally from Vancouver, also known in the industry as Hollywood North for accommodating feature films shot in British Columbia, Dylan Schmid was born at the right place to explore a career in acting. He was only six, when he found his path and got involved in two short student movies. As he enjoyed putting himself in someone else’s shoes, his family supported him to go after his dreams. From that point on, he moved from shooting a pilot miniseries called ‘‘Gibson Gus’’ to landing a recurring role on ABC’s hit show Once Upon A Time as Young Baelfire that appeared to be life changing for Dylan. In 2013, he also took on the big screens all over the world in Alexandre Aja’s Horns alongside Daniel Radcliffe and Max Minghella. At only 18, Dylan is for sure a busy guy and developed an extremely bright career. Especially in 2017, he took part in two remarkable projects which are Hulu’s drama series Shut Eye whose season 2 got released early December, and Netflix’s thriller 1922, a film adaptation of Stephen King’s novella starring Thomas Jane in the lead role. Through both of these productions, Dylan came across intense roles related to strong stories full of emotional rollercoasters that have certainly pushed his acting skills to a whole new level as well as they showed him new perspectives of our society. Therefore, we can say that 2017 has been a great year for Dylan Schmid who got the opportunity to refine the career path he wants to take in the future. Describing himself as ‘‘a visual learner,’’ he plans on pursuing deeply his work in the film industry, At the moment, Dylan stays focused on his personal projects and recently let us know about a mysterious project he has been working on with 1922’s costar Kaitlyn Bernard.

ana Salah, plus connue sous le nom King Deco, incarne une touche de douceur dans le monde de la musique électro-pop. Grandissant en Jordanie, la musique a toujours été la seule chose qui pouvait naturellement capter sa concentration. ‘‘Je savais au fond de moi qu’il y avait ce monde de visuels et de paysages sonores que je voulais créer’’, raconte-t-elle. Mais sa voix n’est pas la seule chose unique et touchante. Son monde artistique baptisé la ‘‘Decosphere’’ révèle un esthétique construit autour de ses racines du Moyen-Orient, d’ères spécifiques de l’histoire et de thèmes abordant l’unification avec la nature, l’autonomisation de la femme. ‘‘La seule chose qui rende cela unique est le fait que ce soit authentique. Personne n’est pareil et si vous pouvez faire quelque chose qui soit vousmême de manière authentique, les chances sont telles que ce sera différent.’’

ana Salah, best-known as King Deco, represents a touch of sweetness in the world of electro-pop music. Growing up in Jordan, music was always the only thing that could naturally lock in her focus. ‘‘I knew in the back of my mind that there was this world of visuals and soundscapes that I wanted to create,’’ she tells. Not only her voice is unique and touching. Her whole artistic world that she calls the ‘‘Decosphere’’ reveals an aesthetic built around her Middle Eastern roots, specific eras in history and themes about being one with nature, female empowerment. ‘‘The only thing that makes it unique is the fact that it is authentic. No two people are the same and if you can make something that is authentically yourself, odds are it will be different.’’

Avant que King Deco naisse, il y avait seulement Dana. L’artiste indépendante chante et compose depuis aussi longtemps qu’elle s’en souvienne. Souffrant d’hyperactivité et ne voulant pas prendre de médicaments contre cela, la musique semblait être le chemin le plus naturel pour en faire une carrière. ‘‘Le réel point de départ de tout cela était le jour où j’ai écrit One avec Felix (Snow). C’était ma première session d’écriture et également le jour où j’ai décidé du nom King Deco.’’ Parlant de sa volonté de prendre un nom de scène pour poursuivre une carrière dans la musique, Deco explique qu’elle voulait établir une séparation entre la personne qu’elle était en grandissant, et la personne qu’elle voulait devenir. ‘‘En grandissant au Moyen-Orient, l’égalité des genres a toujours été une de mes passions’’, dévoile-t-elle. ‘‘J’ai choisi King car je pensais qu’en tant que femme cela rendrait en quelques sortes neutre cette notion du genre. Deco était mon surnom quand j’étais DJ.’’ Son parcours musical l’a ensuite menée à quitter sa terre natale pour déménager à 17 ans à Brooklyn, New York. ‘‘Le retour de flamme que j’ai eu à la maison face à mon départ pour
Before King Deco comes to life, it was just Dana. The indie artist has been singing and songwriting as long as she can remember. Struggling with ADD (Attention Deficit Disorder) and not wanting to take medication for it, music seemed like the most natural path to take career-wise. ‘‘The real starting point of doing music professionally was the day I wrote One with Felix (Snow). It was my real writing session and also the day I decided on the name King Deco.’’ Talking about her desire to pick a stage name to pursue a career in music, Deco tells she wanted there to be a bit of separation between the person she grew up being and the person she wanted to become. ‘‘Growing up in the Middle East, gender equality has always been a passion of mine,’’ she says. ‘‘I chose King because I thought as a female it would be sort of this gender neutralizing thing. Deco was my nickname when I used to DJ.’’ Her musical path lead her then to leave her native land at 17 to move to Brooklyn, New York. ‘‘The backlash I got from home for

our le musicien de 23 ans originaire de Toronto Tony Ann, 2017 n’aurait pu être une année plus révélatrice. Probablement parce qu’il n’aurait jamais imaginé il y a des mois qu’il serait invité par le duo électronique américain The Chainsmokers sur leur ‘‘Memories Do Not Open Tour’’, qu’il jouerait devant plusieurs milliers de personnes, et qu’il composerait avec eux. Un tournant plutôt radical pour cet artiste qui voulait devenir un pianiste classique lorsqu’il était plus jeune. ‘‘C’est certainement de loin l’année la plus excitante de ma vie. Je suis très reconnaissant pour les opportunités qui m’ont été données cette année’’, déclare-t-il avec enthousiasme. ‘‘Je ne prendrai jamais tout cela pour acquis.’’

or 23 year-old musician from Toronto Tony Ann, 2017 could not have been a more instructive year. Probably because he would have never thought months ago that he would be invited by American electro duo The Chainsmokers on their ‘‘Memories Do Not Open Tour’’ to perform in front of several thousand people, and that he would compose by their side. It’s quite a radical shift for this artist who wanted to become a classical pianist when he was younger. ‘‘For sure it’s been the most exciting year of my life so far. I’m super grateful for the opportunities that I have been given this year,’’ he says enthusiastically. ‘‘I will never take any of this for granted.’’

Tony Ann s’est lancé dans la musique à l’âge de 12 ans. En sixième, son professeur de musique lui a fait regarder un documentaire sur Beethoven qui l’a au final inspiré à connaître tout sur la musique classique et la composition. Et quel meilleur outil pour exploiter un amour pour la composition que le piano? ‘‘Quand je joue du piano, j’aime le fait de pouvoir prendre une chanson, changer les harmonies, et en faire quelque chose de complètement différent de l’original. J’aime pouvoir jouer la mélodie et l’accompagnement en même temps, ce que certains instruments ne permettent pas.’’
Tony Ann got involved in music when he was 12 years old. He was in 6th grade music class, and his teacher put on a Beethoven documentary that ultimately inspired him to know everything about classical music and composing. And what a better tool to explore a love for composing than the piano. ‘‘My favorite part of playing piano is how I can take a song and change up the harmonies, and make it feel completely different than the original. I love how I can play both the melody and accompaniment at the same time, which some instruments don’t have.’’
En grandissant, l’esprit de Tony s’est peu à peu détaché de la musique classique pour l’amener à développer cette passion pour la musique pop/mainstream dont il fait la promotion aujourd’hui. Sur sa chaîne YouTube qui a joué un rôle important dans l’évolution de sa carrière, Tony a commencé a reprendre des artistes à succès tels que Taylor Swift ou Justin Bieber, en ajoutant sa propre touche personnelle pour créer des performances remarquables. ‘‘Quand je reprends des chansons mon objectif principal est de paraître aussi original que possible. Mon processus créatif est une question d’improvisation’’, raconte-t-il. ‘‘J’écoute une chanson que je veux reprendre, trouve toutes les

lthough filming schedule is somewhat tricky when we are in the middle of a production, we caught Tasya Teles in Vancouver, her current place of employment and the city of her childhood. She had a day off from The 100 set, when we shot her in the heart of Gastown. Since 2015, Tasya has been dedicating herself to Echo, her role in The CW’s post-apocalyptic sci-fi show created by Jason Rothenberg. As she has been promoted to series regular for season 5, Tasya couldn’t be more delighted to be able to discover new facets of her daring character and thus continue to shape her story.

Toutefois, nous avons intercepté Tasya Teles à Vancouver, son actuel lieu de travail ainsi que sa ville d’enfance. Elle profitait d’un jour de repos passé loin du plateau de The 100, quand nous l’avons photographiée au coeur de Gastown. Depuis 2015, Tasya se consacre à Echo, son rôle dans la série post-apocalyptique de science-fiction créée par Jason Rothenberg. Promue personnage principal dans la saison 5, Tasya n’aurait pu être plus ravie d’avoir l’opportunité de découvrir de nouvelles facettes de son personnage audacieux et de continuer ainsi à construire son histoire.
Originaire de Toronto, Tasya n’a pas grandi avec le souhait d’évoluer dans l’industrie cinématographique. Elle est allée à Université Concordia à Montréal pour étudier le commerce, un domaine très différent de l’interprétation. Cependant, elle a vite réalisé que ce n’était pas son destin. Elle a réellement débuté sa carrière à l’âge de 25 ans. Son amour pour le théâtre triomphant, elle a eu le courage de prendre une autre direction, malgré les craintes de sa famille. ‘‘Quand vous abordez une carrière artistique, vous ne savez jamais comme elle va se développer’’, déclare-t-elle. ‘‘Mes parents sont très académiques donc quand je leur ai dit que je voulais être actrice, ils étaient terrifiés.’’ (rires)
Native of Toronto, Tasya didn’t grow up with the desire to evolve in the film industry. She had gone to Concordia University in Montréal to study commerce, a very different field from acting. However she soon realized that it wasn’t what she was meant to do. The real starting point of her career was when she was 25. Her love for theatre prevailed and she dared to take another direction, despite her family’s fears. ‘‘When you take on an artistic career, you never know how it’s going to unfold,’’ she says. ‘‘My parents are very academy type so when I said I wanted to be an actor they were both terrified.’’ (she laughs)
