Michigan Scottish Rite Fund Thank you to those who have contributed to the Michigan Scottish Rite Fund (MSRF) over the years. Michigan Scottish Rite Masons can be very proud that they annually assist in providing scholarships for students to pursue their life goals in academic excellence. The MSRF uses only the interest and dividends from our investment portfolio for scholarships. Due to the sizable downturn in our investments, it was necessary to lower the scholarship allotment from $30,000 in 2009, to $25,000 this past year. We are hopeful that we will not have to incur additional reductions next year. Through your continued support we will continue to provide funding for scholarships to deserving students. Please consider making a donation of any amount, and send a contribution to the Michigan Scottish Rite Fund. Your gift may be sent to the Secretary of the Michigan Council of Deliberation at: Timothey S. Marshbanks, 33E 907 Monroe St. Dearborn, MI 48124 Please indicate which Valley you belong to as the amount of scholarship funding allocated to each Valley, is determined by a formula based on the number of gifts and total contributions received from each Valley. Thank you for your support. Your gift will continue to play a positive role in the future of deserving students. Fraternally, David R. Bedwell, 33E Deputy for Michigan

Volunteerism and Commitment but I am compelled to tell you that our Fraternity has had a good deal of problems with these two topics with an alarming degree of frequency recently. When we volunteer to do something, we must commit to carry out our promise. We must have actors to carry out the allegories that we portray and we continually seek out those Brothers that are willing to share their talents with the rest of us to put on the quality of degree work for which this Valley is widely known . We cannot do this without volunteers. These allegories require rehearsals. Rehearsals require the participation of all that agree to act. You may know your part and think that you do not need to be there but there are other players without your experience who must work along with you to properly learn their parts. You must commit to working with these Brothers at these rehearsals for the greater good of the order. We are all busy people. We are all torn twelve ways to Sunday and we must make the best use of our time. We all recognize that things inevitably happen to upset our plans. No director expects all of his players to revolve their lives around the rehearsals, but if you say you will do a part and that you will be at this and this rehearsal but not at this one, you are taken at your word. If something comes up to alter your commitment, it is only fair to your director and fellow cast members to apprise them of your need to change your commitment so that other plans can be made accordingly. It is the right thing to do for the good of the cast.

A Note From Todd Binsz,33E, Sovereign Prince Thank you for electing me your Sovereign Prince of Cyrus Council. It is a great honor and I will do everything I can to deserve the confidence you have placed in me. I want each of you to consider two topics that are vital in our fraternity: Volunteerism and Commitment. Do these two topics share a common thread? I believe they do and they should be considered though linked as one. Volunteerism is that noble giving of ones self and ones talent for the good of all. In Masonry, it is offering your services on committees, teaching new members, working in the kitchen, organizing social activities, working on related activities that are endorsed by the various Masonic bodies as well as offering yourself as an officer or player in degree work. We all volunteer in various capacities for the good of the order. We do these things because we enjoy doing our part. We volunteer to do the things that we are good at and things that we derive enjoyment from by working for the greater good of the order. Commitment is simply doing the things every day of our lives that we say we will do. We commit to the responsibilities of our family lives and our work lives, to our parents and children, to our friends, church and country, to our Fraternity. What we commit to has wide implications to ourselves as well as to our fellow men. I was raised to believe in the creed that a mans word is his bond. If a man agrees to something he must have the conviction to carry out what he has agreed to do. It not only reflects on his personal integrity, but also has far reaching affects on others. Brothers, I do not want to lecture you about

Volunteerism and Commitment. Please consider them both together‌.for the greater good of everyone involved. 3

The Ladies Lounge But the one solution that no one mentions regarding these problems is that we must control our population. Unbridled growth of the number of people on this earth is straining the resources beyond limits. Our good earth is not able to sustain this continued growth in population and along with it the increased strains on its resources.

From Where I Sit Jeanette Minch

World Problems We as a world, have a multitude of problems from pollution of our air and water, to global Jeanette Minch warming to increasing oil needs. All of these problems are interwoven so completely they cannot be separated. Carbon emissions are polluting our air and warming our climate causing global warming, changing of weather patterns and melting of glaciers. Changing weather patterns have increased the intensity and frequency of storms and changed weather patterns enough in various regions to cause changes in food production. Many areas of our world are experiencing critical water shortages. Parts of the U.S. are facing severe shortages for irrigation needs as well as home and industrial needs. Many reservoirs and lakes have severely decreased levels. In some areas of the world, dependent on glacial melt for their water source, are facing lack of water because of the glaciers seriously receding. People of southwest U.S. eye our wonderful great lakes with avarice. Increasing oil needs demand depending on more and more oil from foreign countries who dislike us intensely and would have nothing to do with us except for our need for their oil and their desire to sell the plentiful oil they have. Cutting back on oil use as much as possible and/or utilizing alternative energy sources must become a way of life for all countries. We must recycle and reuse more of our products as by recycling and reusing we conserve energy and raw materials. We must conserve and protect our water sources by being less wasteful of this commodity. We must protect our lakes, oceans and ground water from pollution. There's only so much water, no more, no less, but as we pollute more sources our useable supply lessens. As glaciers melt these sources of fresh water disappear.

SAC Club Announcement

TOP LINE SIGNERS FOR THE ILL. THOMAS W. CARDWELL, 33° CLASS SPRING REUNION, APRIL 30 - MAY 1, 2010

The Sponsor A Child (SAC) Club has reached another minor milestone! On May 5, 2010, the Club provided funding, to the Grand Rapids Learning Center, for the sponsor of our thirty-fifth (35th) child. At $5000 per year for each child, that amounts to a total of $175,000 donated by our Club members. On behalf of the Learning Center and the Valley of Grand Rapids, I wish to thank everyone that has made this possible. To date, the SAC Club has over 250 members (contributors to the Learning Center). This includes individuals, families and organizations. This count does not include contributors to over thirty (30) memorials setup by individuals and families. If you add the approximate 200 contributors to these memorials, the total would exceed 450 members. For those of you that are currently not members, please consider joining by making a contribution, in any amount, to the Grand Rapids Learning Center. For those of you that are members, please continue your support of this very worthwhile cause. Remember, Supreme Council now only funds 50% of the $125,000 required to maintain the current level of support for our Grand Rapids Center. Please participate in the planned golf outings and other events that will help make up this funding shortfall. Again, many thanks to the current list of members who are providing this needed financial support.
