Grove, the largest city on Grand Lake O’ the Cherokees, is the retail, housing and water sport center for its eastern shores. Accessible to thousands of visitors each year, and with two airports serving the area, Grove is a short 76-mile drive from Tulsa, and a 43-mile drive from Joplin, Missouri. With more shoreline than California (over 1,300 miles), Grand Lake O’ the Cherokees is a popular destination for weekend visitors looking to unwind beside its sparkling waters, and summer travelers making the most of the lake lifestyle. New residents and business owners are welcomed daily in Grove, which boasts a rich and colorful history and an enterprising attitude while retaining small-town traditions, warm hospitality, and solid values. Grove has been rated by Rand McNally, the Wall Street Journal and Retirement Places Rated as one of the top retirement areas in the nation. We are attracting an increasing number of new residents and retirees looking to discover what Living the Grand Life is all about. The rolling hills surrounding Grove and Grand Lake come alive in the spring with breathtaking views of dogwood and redbud trees displayed against dark green native cedars and pines. Grove’s climate is our best-kept secret where everyone enjoys moderate weather with four distinct seasons. The perfect summer setting for long days on the water and viewing magnificent sunsets from the back of a slow cruising boat are enhanced by clear blue skies, clean air and warm temperatures. Fall brings brilliant Ozark foliage colors of crimson, gold and burgundy; brisk morning air and temperate weather, and later the occasional snows of winter add up to Living the Grand Life in Grove.

A voluntary organization, the Grove Area Chamber of Commerce is comprised of approximately 400 businesses and individuals who have joined together to promote the community’s civic and commercial progress.

The caliber of work that is done by the Chamber is directly related to the area’s economic well-being, which is why the business economy and future growth of the area have been positively impacted by the Grove Area Chamber of Commerce. The Chamber’s two primary functions are to: • Act as a spokesperson for the business and professional community and translate into action the group thinking of its members; and • Provide specific services that can be effectively rendered by an organization, both to its members and the community as a whole. Organization of the Chamber Membership - The Chamber members are its stockholders. Their opinions and needs serve as the input for developing goals, objectives and action plans of the Chamber. Board of Directors - The Board of Directors is the policymaking body of the Chamber. Its members represent the business, professional and individual leadership of the community. The board consists of 15 elected members and two members appointed by the chairman of the board. Each year, five board members are elected to serve three-year terms, and the two appointees by the chairman serve one year terms. Executive Committee - The Executive Committee consists of four members who also serve as board of directors. The executive committee slate consists of chairman of the board, chairman-elect, immediate past chair and the secretary/treasurer. The president serves as a non-voting member of the executive committee. Divisions - The Chamber operates under a division concept. It is organized into four divisions - Administration, Business Development, Community Development and Membership Development. Each division has selected committees that fall within their area of interest. Committees - A committee system is the most effective means of harnessing the energies and abilities of member volunteers. A committee’s responsibility is to carry out the goals and objectives set forth through the Chamber’s Annual Business Plan. Staff - The administration of the Chamber is governed by the president who is responsible for successful implementation and coordination of programs, services and activities approved by the board of directors.

a new look Downtown Grove

d

Historic downtown Grove offers an array of stores with art work, gourmet cooking items, lake souvenirs, everything for fishing and more. Several wonderful restaurants are in or near the downtown area. For entertainment, the award-winning Grove Playmakers has several productions each year in their downtown theatre. To improve the appeal and show the pride of the community, phase I of a downtown revitalization project has been completed that included new sidewalks, lighting and landscaping. Phase II will extend the streetscape in the downtown area. The Chamber’s downtown revitalization committee, working with the City government, continues to explore possibilities to improve and revitalize the area. Encouraging new shops and eateries are always at the top of the list for the area’s development. Free public parking is available off of Grand Street between Third Street and O’Daniel and at the Grove Community Center downtown. Using off street parking or the side streets can make parking easier. Each year, over 5 million cars past through the downtown intersection at Third & Main Street which is pretty good for a little lake town with an exciting future.

Their annual Walk-A-Thon fundraiser brought in over $12,000.00 in 2013 and the funds were used directly in the classrooms. Founded in 1997 by a group of private citizens, the Grove Educational Foundation for Excellence (GEFFE) works with and for the Grove Public Schools system to recognize, encourage and promote academic excellence. The GEFFE Foundation has awarded over $ 900,000.00 to help teachers fund new and innovative programs at every grade level. For more information on GEFFE, log on to their website at www.geffe.org. POWER PLAY

For over 70 years, Oklahomans have enjoyed the water playgrounds created by GRDA’s hydroelectric facilities. Grand Lake, Lake Hudson and W.R. Holway Reservoir offer not only beautiful scenery but also wide open waters for boating, skiing, swimming, fishing or just playing. At no cost to Oklahoma taxpayers (not even a daily access fee) GRDA manages, patrols, monitors and cares for these waters which support a thriv ing recreation and tourism industry and a broad tax base around the shoreline. In other words, play time is beneficial to all of Oklahoma. That’s the “power of power” at GRDA.

Learn more about GRDA and read The Power of Power book at www.grda.com.

Grove has what it takes to entertain you for a day, a week or a lifetime, whether you are interested in residential living, retirement living or leisure living. In this largest city on Grand Lake, in one of the fastest growing counties in Oklahoma, traditional values and small-town, friendly business owners can still be found. Grand Lake, which surrounds Grove, accommodates a wide variety of water sports including power boating, cruising, sailing, personal watercraft, parasailing and water skiing. Spectacular and fun annual boating events include lighted boat parades, sailing regattas and poker runs. Those without their own watercraft can tour Grand Lake on a Southern style paddlewheel riverboat, rent boats at local marinas, or consider a new purchase at many of the in-water boat dealers. Considered the best bass fishing lake in Oklahoma, Grand Lake is also the crappie capitol of the world, in addition to being home to white, spotted, small and large mouth bass, white crappie, bluegill, the hybrid striper, and spoonbill and channel catfish. More than 400 fishing tournaments and an expert fishing guide association make catching any of Grand Lake’s game fish simple throughout the year. After a full day of water activities we invite you to dine on an outdoor patio, or enjoy one of the fabulous restaurants in the area.

the Cayuga mission Church In 1886, Mathias Splitlog began constructing a church of local hewn limestone for his wife, Eliza Splitlog. Today, the Cayuga Mission Church is the only church in Oklahoma, and perhaps in the U.S., which was built by a Native American with his own funds for the religious use of all people. The inside is embellished with beautifully hand-carved imported wood, and 15 stones, each carved with an Indian symbol, form the arched doorway. Although the church was still unfinished when Eliza Splitlog passed away in 1894, her funeral was held in the partially completed building. The bronze bell, cast in Belgium, first tolled in memory of Eliza Splitlog during the dedication in 1896. In 1897, in the church he dreamed of, financed and built, Mathias Splitlog’s mass was held. The faithful are still called to worship today when the old mission bell rings, spring, summer, fall and winter, pealing out over the streams and valleys of what was once the Seneca Nation, now known as the Cowskin area. northeast of Grove on e 260 rd. 26211 S. 670 rd.
