routing This region starts at Baie Vert Junction and moves along to Grand Falls-Windsor. The Trans Canada Hwy. (Route 1) makes its way through the Central Region from Grand Falls-Windsor through Gander and then on to Terra Nova National Park. Along the way, turning off to the coast is a must to visit some more fascinating places. Head from Deer Lake east on the Trans Canada Hwy, Route 1, to arrive at Grand Falls-Windsor. Access one of the world’s most exciting wilderness areas. It’s a naturalist’s dream: The Exploits, Newfoundland’s longest river, plus hiking, kayaking, & hunting.

Mary March Provincial Museum - Named in honour of one of the last Beothuks, Mary March, this branch of the Newfoundland Museum traces the 5,000-year-old human history of Central Newfoundland through a range of exhibits and activities. Logger’s Life Provincial Museum - Located in Grand Falls-Windsor, this branch of the Newfoundland Museum recreates life at an early 20th century logging camp. Site includes a cookhouse and bunkhouse where men would share their songs and stories after a hard day of back-breaking work. The Queen Street Dinner Theatre Summer Theatre Festival runs July – August annually. Dinner Theatre, Lunch Time shows, and Main Stage productions make-up this theatrical experience. Salmonid Interpretation Centre - Located on the mighty Exploits River near the "Grand Falls" (from which the town takes its name) is one of the most impressive salmon enhancement projects in North America. Town of Botwood - C3

Botwood Heritage Park & Museum – World War II sea-plane base with tarmac, slipways and restored P.B.Y. Catalina aircraft. Museum display includes early aviation, native cultures, European explorers, war hospitals, railway and shipping. Minimum time: 3 hours

Visit a mussel farming operation and learn about aquaculture in Newfoundland. Boat tours available.

Lewisporte - C3

A major service and transportation centre. North of the town the coastline is covered with birch and other leafy trees which turn into beautiful fall colours in September and October.

Twillingate - D2

Located along the Kittiwake Coast, Twillingate is one of Newfoundland’s most picturesque fishing villages, well known for the Twillingate Museum and the Prime Berth Museum - major stops for groups. The village features icebergs, boat tours and other attractions like the All Around the Circle Dinner Theatre.
