Grogan & Company is pleased to announce their annual 'Fine Rugs and Carpets Auction' at 11am EST on Sunday, January 30. The sale features more than 170 lots, gathered from significant rug collections and various estates. Twenty Caucasian and Turkmen rugs come from the collection of Phil Wallick from York, Pennsylvania including a marvelous Akstafa, a rare gold-ground Dagestan prayer rug, and a Kazak prayer rug published in Raoul Tschebull's iconic 1971 book 'Kazak: Carpets of the Caucasus' (plate 11). Among the Turkmen highlights from the Wallick Collection are a complete tent band, two fine Tekke door surrounds—a khalyk and a kapanuk—and eight asmalyks. Five early Anatolian rugs are on offer from an important Canadian collection. The auction also features several spectacular Persian rugs, including a remarkable fine Kirman pictorial rug two Mohtasham Kashans, a Silk Tabriz prayer rug, as well as many Heriz and other Persian decorative room size carpets.
