CASSIE GRIMES

Charcoal and water section drawing displaying the interconnection of floors and light quality.
Structural columns extend to the second floor and become wrapped in glass, inspired by a poem by M. Oliver, quoting trees as "pillars of light".

Hybrid studio render.
Stairs continue the concrete language in the gallery, with the risers opening up to see water flowing through the home.

MIDWAY TO SOMEWHERE
Jessie Gemmer Fall 2023
This project delves into the liminal nature of airports and the chapel within. The characteristics of caves informed key design decisions. Approaches used throughout include peaks of light, varying heights and widths, and compression and release.
The final design is a space where wandering minds unknowingly come to experience a sublime environment, that turns the feeling of being lost into a journey of self reflection. Separation of the sublime and the wearisome is created from the clearest path through the chapel - a curve. Thresholds break up the space further into 5 distinct areas.

How do our eyes adjust to a change of light quality?
FORM FOLLOWS RITUAL
Timothy Hamnett Spring 2023
Given a 6"w x 8"d x 6"h cube, I was tasked in expanding it to a larger volume by carving and shifting pieces into a proportioned, usable space. The actions of walking, climbing, and sitting were studied to practice observational research as a design methodology.
The sky is framed through the use of apertures to capture moments in time.

A STUDY OF LIGHT
Timothy Hamnett Spring 2023
In this project I experimented with the suns path and its effect on an interior space.
A foam core box acted as a base for openings on the sides and top. These apertures interact with natural daylight, creating patterns that can only be experienced at specific moments in time.
