A Personal Support Curriculum Grier’s fully integrated support system assures that every student is on a continuous path of growth—with the time and resources to achieve her personal best. Options are designed to support both academic and social-emotional development, building the skills that increase independence and confidence.

Teams of Advisors Grier’s support system is an intentional network.

Rather than having one advisor who oversees all aspects of a student’s growth, each girl has a team of adults who collectively know her from every perspective. Girls have many go-to people, and someone from each student’s team is always available to help.

Counseling—Academic Academic counselors always know where students stand in their classes. They make sure that course selections align with academic goals and that performance aligns with potential. No one falls through the cracks, because there aren’t any.

Tutoring Extra help is available as needed every day during

regularly scheduled periods. Whether in a small group study session or one-on-one support with a teacher, students have the opportunity to review lessons, tackle challenging assignments, and study for an exam. This extra help period is available to all students, and teachers may require attendance as needed.

Counseling—College As a college-prep school, Grier’s path to college placement is planful, continuous, and personal. Every student’s goals are different and her path to college is her own. Multi-week seminars in grades 10 and 11 set girls up for success when the college search intensifies junior year. Grier’s college counselors make sure that each girl is on track with the nuts and bolts of the process as well as the thoughtful decision-making that the process requires.

Counseling—Personal Growing up can be hard, and Grier’s personal counselors are available to help navigate the trickiest parts. Sometimes an understanding listener is all that’s needed to take a bold next step; sometimes mapping out a custom strategy makes managing a tough situation less daunting. Regardless of a student’s needs, full-time Grier counselors, as well as consulting psychologists, are here to help girls thrive.

Learning Skills A dedicated department offers individualized support for mild-to-moderate learning differences and executive functioning challenges. Academic electives, taught by learning specialists, are seamlessly scheduled into the school day with an average student/teacher ratio of 2:1. Emphasis is on developing strategies for learning differences, increased academic and executive functioning, and building self-advocacy skills.

Learning specialists assure a continuous loop of communication so students, teachers, and parents are always on the same page.

ESL—Instruction for English Language Learners The goal of Grier’s ESL Program is to help international students achieve English language mastery while participating fully in math, science, social studies, the fine arts, physical education, and extracurricular activities. Essential cross-cultural guidance makes sure that all members of the community feel welcome, respected, and valued.

Listening, reading, and writing skills are emphasized at all four levels of the ESL curriculum. Students are placed in the appropriate course based on placement tests and they must score a minimum of 68/120 to join regular English classes.
