The business of platforms Deloitte recently hosted a platform business webinar , which saw industry SME’s including Standard Bank’s Alvin Peter, discuss platform thinking and how organisations are using platform business models to unlock value, efficiency, and sustainability.

Over the next few months Deloitte will be unpacking the implications of adopting platform business models on various parts of your business, these include: Delivery and Operating Model, The people operating system, and Financial and Value Management amongst others.

Focus on DevOps

The Engineering Practices within Standard Bank Group Technology is responsible for modernising Engineering Practices and capabilities with a key focus around how Software Engineering can create a competitive advantage for Standard Bank. The Engineering Practices now need to scale the strategy across Standard Bank. Deloitte assisted in enabling foundation capabilities but also created a sustainable plan.

Together with the Engineering Practices we cocreated an operating model, engagement model and governance model for the Engineering Practices to illustrate how they execute, operate, and behave. The team conducted various DevOps maturity assessments to determine the current state of DevOps within Standard Bank and help define the future state for DevOps. A “toolbox” was created to accelerate the journey which contains templates, assessments, playbooks, and training to scale DevOps practices across Standard Bank and improve the maturity of DevOps.

The Future of the operating model Standard Bank has embarked on a transformation journey to become ‘futureready’, in order to create a single, unified Standard Bank Group platform that will provide an expanded range of services and solutions to their clients.

Becoming a future-ready platform organisation requires Standard Bank not only transform to a new business operating model, but to build and develop their people operating system aligned to the Banks chosen capability model.

In wave two of the Future Ready transformation programme we supported the Future Ready OD stream, where worked with each of the Corporate Functions, Innovation and international teams to define the future ready capabilities required for their specific areas and designed their optimised top structures for both Group and South Africa.
