The Mystique Hotel on 600 Collins street is designed to accommodate guests with a stay duration of a couple of hours to a couple of months. Driven by the concept of ‘manipulation’, the hotel embodies the concept through the implementation strategy of ‘perspective’. From the small-scale details to the large-scale details, the concept allows the architecture to manifest and reinforce the concept. The mass of the building is separated into three masses; the podium where public and back of house functions can occur, the tower where the hotel accommodation is situated, and the crown where additional public functions can occur. The varying angles on the floor slab allows rooms within the hotel to be orientated in different directions, hence manipulating the perspective of the guests on each floor. In the hotel rooms, the notion of the arch - as seen in the podium - is re-interpreted to form a cohesion in the language of the building throughout.
