International expansion, government support, evolving audience expectations, IP trends, and smarter marketing strategies were all on the table as industry leaders explored what’s next for touring entertainment.
For the second year running, key figures in production, venue management, intellectual property, events promotion, and more assembled for ILMC Touring Entertainment LIVE (TEL) in London in February.
Following on from the success of last year’s debut, TEL saw a who’s who of prominent leaders in immersive and experiential exhibits and family entertainment share their thoughts on an everevolving industry, the various hurdles it needs to overcome, and what they anticipate will happen in touring entertainment’s future.
The conference kicked off with Lands of Opportunity, which explored why India and the Middle East are two of the most exciting touring markets right now, as well as the vital role that government support plays in breaking through territories.
“Live entertainment events are gaining traction at a rapid rate, thanks to an increasing ease of access of all types of content via streaming and social media platforms for close to a billion people,” said David Goldberg from TPG, who have worked closely with Indian ticketing powerhouse BookMyShow in bringing over the country’s first-ever Cirque du Soleil shows and NBA games in 2019.
Meanwhile, in the Middle East, Alison Goldsmith of SESLive!, specialists in big-budget family entertainment IP such as Disney on Ice and Marvel Universe Live! in the GCC, emphasised the importance of investment from regional governments who recognise the value of live shows to their respective countries. “Because costs have been so high, we are very fortunate that we have some fantastic governmental partners who invest in infrastructure and support

Tributes take centre stage
