COVID-19 has disrupted the lives of millions of people around the world; it is easily transmitted and can have potentially severe consequences for those who contract the virus.

Fortunately, there are some measures that everyone can integrate into their lives, which can help to slow the spread of the disease and make sure that you and your loved ones remain safe.

Wear a mask One of the major ways the virus spreads is through airborne particles emitted when an infected person speaks, sneezes, coughs, etc. It is possible for someone to be sick and have no symptoms but still be able to spread the virus. The CDC recommends that everyone wear masks in enclosed spaces to lessen the possibility of transmission.

The mask will both prevent you from spreading the disease, should you have it and not know, and minimize the chance of you contracting it.

Protect yourself and your family by always wearing a mask in public.

Maintain Appropriate Distance Make sure to maintain a distance of at least six feet between yourself and any person who does not live in your household, when possible. In combination with wearing a mask, this precaution will ensure that should you come in contact with someone who has contracted the virus, the airborne particles they emit will be less likely to reach you. When possible, meet other people in wide open, well-ventilated areas to reduce the likelihood of anyone transmitting the virus.

Wash Your Hands Wash your hands frequently and for at least 20 seconds each time. If you travel outside of your home, plan to cook or eat something, or have just used the restroom, remember to wash your hands. If soap is unavailable, use a hand sanitizer that contains at least 60% alcohol. Whenever possible, avoid touching your face with unwashed hands; this helps to stop the spread of germs.

Clean Surfaces Frequently If you or your family uses a surface consistently, such as doorknobs and light switches, CDC guidelines state that you should clean and disinfect them daily.

Other dirty surfaces should be cleaned and disinfected as necessary, helping kill any germs living on these surfaces.
